I have seen the 'big bag' gang of pickpockets on a baht bus a couple of times. In your instance it is a tactic to drop the item quickly if something goes wrong, or an accomplice perhaps picks it up. It wouldn't be there long if dropped for later collection on 2nd Rd.

There are occasional 'mugging' type crimes in Pattaya, gold chain snatching, pick-pocketing etc. Mostly this happens in the late hours....... but I would not say it is a reason to avoid coming here, it really isn't all that common and just best not to be wandering the streets alone, late at night, and generally being an easy target.

My first taste of Caviar was on a flight out of HKG, USA bound, it was United and we got an upgrade from Biz to First after slipping some money to someone! The accompanying vodka helped me recover from the night before involving some Thai hookers and an emptied mini-bar costing me an arm-and-a-leg at The Sheraton Towers! Never knew Beluga was no more. Argumentative fellows these Hungarians!

Silver 'bullion' price is only about £12/Oz..... that is about 31grams, 2 baht weight. (Compare to gold at over 60x that). Sterling silver is 92.5% Silver..... so it should not be all that expensive. But 20% VAT added in the UK and jewellery can have a phenomenal mark-up. Do you have to buy in the UK or will can you buy elsewhere... ? Yes there are some junky items out there but take a look on Ebay under the 'antique' or 'used'... some interesting items there.

Thanks for the education, I did double check the English definition of Caviar and salmon eggs was excluded. I shall be cautious if I need to dine at a Russian restaurant in Pattaya! I would likely knock it off the table and grab the Absolut instead!
