  1. The new airport is on the Pattaya side of Bangkok and you can get there in under 2 hours. U-Tapao isn't much less. So Cebu straight to Clark looks good. Although arrivel time at 4am isn't great.
  2. Good point...
  3. My Favourite Spy
  4. He got banned, reborn, sent to purgatory and off to China he went too. My how time flies.
  5. Once I open a pack of roasted beans I keep them in an airtight container with one of those spring loaded tops that really holds the aroma in. I only put into the grinder hopper what I need just before making my morning double...... Yes I have one of those Saeco machines that does it all automatically, sadly it has spoiled me for having coffee elsewhere! I often have one of the massage girls make me a cup of cheap instant, made with tepid water from one of those pump dispenders with little lumps of 'creamer' powder floating around like life jackets in a whirlpool... it reminds me how bad it can get! Then I go get a massage to take the memory away!
  6. I am beginning to think that there is no longer any such thing as cheap seafood in the tourist areas..... It has come a long way since I had a large lobster, beers and other plates for $20 in Phukhet.(circa 1982). Even the little place I frequent on Sukhumvit, popular with the Thais heading home to Bangkok, has silly prices..... never used to see plates of food for 150-400 baht, per plate. I once had bbq shrimp on the beach in Prachup Khiri Khan along with mussels and rice, and I am beginning to think that was the last cheap meal. I know, I know, it would be a lot more at 'The Harbor' restaurant on the water in San Francisco, but we are talking Pattaya.
  7. Samson and Delilah
  8. A bit of a contradiction economically looking for draft beer and then hoping for imported stuff.
  9. Coffee shops everywhere, damned place is looking more like NYC every day. They'll be cleaning your window with a dirty rag soon instead of trying to sell you a garland!
  10. Applicable to my locale.....The King and I
  11. Correct..I bought a DVD player here in LOS and was horrified to find out it was locked to region 3. I did a bit of research on the internet and there is some sequence you can do, plug it in while holding the power button whilst wearing a witches hat and standing on one leg...and presto, it is now multi region. (I have brought over quite a few DVDs from the UK which are region 2 locked). The DVDs you buy in LOS are a mix, mostly no region lock (well the cheap ones) but now and again I find one that is. My problem then is that I cannot play it on my computer... the DVD drive is region locked and rather cleverly in the firmware in a way you cannot bypass with say DVD43. It really is ridiculous that something designed to be portable and taken to other countries, like a laptop, is blocked to prevent you using some features overseas! Assholes!
  12. Yes, they would be cheaper here and your antibiotics would be less here than on prescription in the UK. Particularly if you got them from Fascinos.
  13. Actually called Soi Siam Country Club... the Thai name on the plate is Soi Pornpraphamit (spelling). If you come out of Pattaya on Klang, turn left onto Sukhumvit, it is the right turn at the first set of lights.
  14. Likely only hepatitis and dysentery!
  15. Well, I am British, so I suppose I couldn't call them foreign....
  16. I have a feeling that if you are at the airport a few hours prior to departure the scheduled carriers will think you are desperate and gouge you.The budget carriers may offer bargains to fill 'em up!
  17. Sex and the Single Girl.
  18. Haha, coincidentally just what my mate has in the shower box when I go visit him up north. I had the same problem and told him to go get some Cussons Imperial Leather the sadistic twat!
  19. Agreed.... I was discussing this with a friend only the other day...Effectively, the UK government will base their tax on your final destination irrespective of aircraft changes at points between. They are applying UK taxation to other country's flights! It is obscene.... Similar to one attempting to claim non-residency for tax purposes, they want you to confirm in writing from the country where you actually reside that you meet that country's taxation liabilities....effectively the UK government becomes the tax gestapo for other countries!!!!! When you over tax, and waste the money, reducing your tax base, you become desperate. It is early days yet but I look to some airlines to figure a way around this. So far, it looks as if I need my onward leg to be on a seperate booking!!!
  20. A regular ADSL wireless router/modem only has an input from a telephone line... and 3/4 ethernet outputs and of course the wireless 'outputs'.I believe you would have to configure the router as a repeater. This would require you to reconfigure it with a new IP address and switch off it's DHCP server and DNS and firewall.
  21. It is....I think you are wrong.Mt T and Mr Toom charge about 1000-1200 baht including the tolls. A taxi will never use the meter (that would be about 900 baht+50 baht+tolls), and I have never done better than 1500 from the taxi stand. I have been offered 1000 baht taxi rides from downstairs. If you are hoping to pick up one that has just dropped off you would need to go upstairs.
  22. It is a 50% increase, if his take home salary (or benefits) does that I guess he won't have a problem......
  23. Nope.......
  24. Pan Pizza, Big C.
  25. Yes, that is what Soi Cowboy used to be in Bangkok. My last visit to Soi LK I was in Oasis... it was OK but seemed a bit disorganised. It was also smokey and smelly... and even there there was once a spell of scamming. But at the moment LK offeres an alternative....... good. I believe one or 2 WS places do offer similar beer prices, and the advantage of there bring more than 2 other places worth a visit and being on the baht bus route. And whoever thinks Cosy offers cheap beer must have been in a different one than I went in...perhaps Sweethearts?
