    visa runs

Not at all. A multiple tourist visa or a non Imm 'O' would also require trips every 60 or 90 days. I believe the combination of 3 x30 day and a tourist visa from Malaysia is being used by some visa run specialists.

Quite a trip to Ranong over the hills, but interesting. Perhaps from Cha-Am you could get onto the train to the Southern border with Malaysia... if it doesn't get blown off the tracks.
  3. Would be better under Expat Issues forum. Well discussed there. Try a search on the subject. I recall 1 BM had a good policy, I think it was 'Gary'. I have just taken out one in Pattaya on the 'Expats Club' group plan through AA Insurance brokers.
  4. This is great news, I have avoided many places for ages now as I despise the dual pricing policy and adopt a 'cut off my own nose' approach. Got my license this year, a whole new world opens up to me!
  5. Fair dodge... I would have said it was a rhetorical question. Pretty good one too.
  6. Don't really think the TV is all that good... but who needs it?
  7. Torrenova seems to have matched my lifestyle and ideas. If you are a big butterfly, you don't need a live-in. Mine doesn't work, but I give her a monthly stipend so that she has the financial independence. She currently goes to school, so we both get the 'time apart'... which I think I need more than her. She cooks dinner often and cleans up the house quite well. She wanted to work but could only find menial, long hours for quite low pay. So, as I wanted her to spend some time with me and do the housework, we came to the school and stipend settlement.
  8. Not sure about this. I think they pursue that aim from all angles. Getting a first time tourist to 'lub them mak mak' is likely thought to be easier than getting a cynical resident to take them seriously.
  9. ah, but as you get older you can manage the extra £1000, but can't mange the extra 60 longtimes. Can't believe one guy paid over £3000 to go with Qantas..... ....... Get discounted biz class seats.....£1400-£1600. Join the frequent flier progams and get the odd free flight. The lounges in the airport are also a nice perk......For sure, if you can't afford it, the extra £1000 will get you more fun in Thailand.
  10. This was mentioned at an 'Expats Club' meeting some months ago. I woke up and heard part of the answer. There was a TIT overtone saying that things vary, but someone had been asked to produce a 'confirming' letter from the embassy that the new passport had been issued to replace the old one. Previously the receipt had sufficed. The entry stamp summarily transferred.
  11. This treatment is for cataracts.....glaucoma cannot be treated this way.
  12. I don't have any middle names.... so that keeps things simple for me. Although if I did I think I would be jumping up for any permutation and combination of them. Some forms (particularly in Arabic countries) expect you to have at least 3 names. I take great satisfaction repeating my last name as 'second name' and 'family name'....

  14. Might want to read a post on the 'Member's Board'. Wongamat beach is littered and a haven for ladyboys prostituting themselves. Obviously both of these can be 'cleaned up'. I think a condo would be nice and convenient, but the purchase prices now are insane. Pricing them in Sqm.... be Euros next. There is also an annual service charge and a scalping on the electric rate too.
  15. Just wondering if there are any technical problems at yr end, or whether my security settings are an issue. Completely unable to reply to posts, using the 'Quote' and 'Add Reply' direction for several days now. Just hangs there after I hit 'Add Reply'.Works OK for 'Fast Reply' Can't send PMs either....
  16. Hindsight... wonderful to be looking at your own ass! Who knows, I think condos are overpriced, suitable for short visits but not for 'living' in. 48 sq/m is a 7m box. I know someone who has shelled out a lot of money for a condo which looks like it is never going to be finished.. it's a crap shoot.
  17. There is a clinic that specialises in cosmetic dentistry oposite the Grand Sole Hotel, 2nd Rd. I was pleased with a simple filling job done there, modern facilities, clean white coats and English spoken well.
  18. Possibly the same reason waiters are so poorly paid in the USA, below minimum isn't it? 'Financial Intermediation', sounds like what I had recent knowledge of, the Russian rapist's victim got paid $3000, but he was told to bring 5k$ along.
  19. You can see enough of them to make these numerical evaluations? (Where I was,one couldn't). Perhaps your scores are skewed due to extended deprivation?
  20. My thoughts exactly, Thailand doesn't need any extra dogs, and definitely not in my street!
  21. Not really, you will be promoted to higher tiers (ie Silver, Gold and Platinum) if you fly Biz class frequently. Then you earn more airmiles. I am looking at a one way award ticket myself and BK-UK Biz will be 80,000 miles (edit correction..60,000). I quite like the booking engine for KLM, both the pay for and awards booking, showing available and cheaper dates. As I no longer work, I can be flexible about flying dates, this can knock a Biz class return down from £3200 to £1550, by simply moving my flights by a day or two. A lot of airlines wouldn't let you see this!
  22. Another year and another standard. I would recommend avoid BA and London Heathrow if at all possible. Heathrow is a shambles these days. My recent flights. BKK-LHR-MAN-LHR-BKK just highlighted how good Bangkok is. Outward...late arrival in LHR. Unable to move jetway to aircraft, trapped on plane. Missed connection. Transferred to British Midland by a very rude BA service agent, British Midland left late and they charge for a cup of coffee (£1.75) Return. Slow security (3 checks before boarding), late departure from Manchester (no information given). Plane parked miles away in LHR, sat
  23. I was ferried around Pattaya a few times looking at houses by a very nice Thai man, but he only seemed interested in showing me new (still being constructed) and expensive developments. When I suggested there must be a section of the market of pre-owned homes worthy of viewing he suddenly stopped calling. I am beginning to see some more houses at lower asking prices now. Perhaps the effect of low season, or some feel the 'limited company ownership' method is looking shaky. My attitude has also changed and I am beginning to feel I should only spend what I can afford to walk away from.
  24. Yes of course, but my mileage ticket the other way, BKK-LHR-MAN (also involving 2 departures) was about £65 charges, for a Biz class seat on the long stretch. Seems to be expensive to depart 2 UK airports, relative to one Thai and one UK.
