Yeah that is pretty expensive really. I use the Nova Park, further away from the action but not too far from the Pinewood. Room safe and free internet by WiFi standard. Although in Dec05 building work was starting nearby

Funnily enough I previously stayed at the Dusit Resort, very nice hotel and they just seemed to pay no attention to who I brought back, whereas the Montien gave me all sorts of aggravation. I would advise anyone not to use hotels that charge a joiner fee, aggravating and hypocritical (I had security standing outside my door in one place as my keeper was still in the room after midday and they wanted that days payment NOW! They kept calling the room too.) Book a place you KNOW do not charge. Cannot go wrong with RG.

Seems ridiculous that I have to ask this question here, but BA seem incapable of answering a direct question via email and long distance telephone calls leave you hanging there clocking up the baht. I flew to Thailand months ago on a free one-way ticket using my BA miles. I didn't know when I would want to return, plus availability is easier if you book one way. Figured I would use my BA miles again to go back and found an available flight (BKK to MAN) in Club class, everything seemed to work until the last step, having put in credit card details for a 50 quid tax charge.........then nothing. No error message, internet screen says DONE...but no reservation and a blank screen. Anybody done this, booked a flight on BA on the internet using Executive Club miles originating in BKK to UK?

Rubbish........ You can get buses from Mo Chit to Pattaya and Kanchanaburi which is West. Why would you go into Bangkok from the airport to get to traffic snarled Ekamai. Buses from Moe Chit to Pattaya run to about 7pm about every 1/2 hour. Some travel via the motorway (extra few baht) which is quite fast, the others go through Bangkok on the expressway.

Depends on you....I would say aisle as that is my preference, mainly due to the ease of getting up to go to the bog or stretch your legs. Nothing much to see out of the window overnight But if you are the type to fall off to sleep easily for 10 hours then tucked up by the window with nobody trying to climb over you works too. It can be nice to watch Thailand drift below you in eager anticipation in the morning.

I would agree but if someone is looking for a cheap option it will get you there. I seem to recall the arrival time in BKK is early, easy to get through immigration and into Pattaya in plenty time for a night out. But beware, small space and a tiresome flight in economy! Transit in Bahrain :

I have had one of these for a year or 2 now, Freedom Buddy is (I think) the 'option' I am on. I recall switching from a diferent option for a cost of 30 baht some time back. Now I get told there are 2 new options (Mouth-Sy and Mouth-Sa???) when I do a balance check. Simply, I would like to know the selection of plans available to me. Asking at the offices seems useless as I do not speak Thai. I can get to some recorded details using my phone, but I can't understand the lasses English. Is there an English web site I can go to to learn more?

Well the street numbers do get confusing as well as Mike this and that. Soi 14 is off Walking Street, and Soi 13 some distance away (AA /Lek Hotel). Mike Shopping Mall is indeed near Soi 12, but there is certainly not a hotel over it (the shops go up several floors). Mike Shopping Plaza.....between Pattayaland 2 and South Road has that tatty old Mike Hotel over it. Great location and a good massage place is about all I can say.

I also recommend Flamingos...I paid $25/night. AC, fridge TV, good location. I hear good reports on the Tonle Sap and Hope and Anchor. Do not presume that because a place is named a guest house that it will be necessarily cheap, I believe it is a taxation issue. There are some excellent guest houses that beat the hotels.....and a few dumps too!

I only paid 1350/night for a short stay at the end of October. High season has commenced so I would not be surprised to see prices go up, they will everywhere. Still a good price though.

I came back from PP recently on AirAsia, as it is a new flight it was cheap ($25+taxes+charges, one way) absolutely no complaints. Efficiency that makes the big carriers look pathetic. I stayed near the Walkabout (Flamingos), which is a good place. I walked around all over, I was more concerned about being hit by a motorcycle or falling into an open sewer than being mugged. I guess you should avoid the smaller streets as lighting is non-existant. There is a bit of action around the Walkabout...and in it...plenty of girls offering services, although they will not bring you a beer!. Nearby there are several other bars, (Shanghai is good, there being a good selection of serving wenches, some are 'cherry girls'). More action by the river, but take a motorcycle taxi if it gets late. Phnom Pehn is worth a visit. Take a trip to the killing Fields, about 40 Km away.

Well that is good news.........another option to avoid Heathrow. Now about avoiding the Middle East!

Drifting off topic here but there are some lovely faces in that photo. What is worse than being cramped into a seat on a packed flight with 12 more hours to go struggling to get to sleep?..........Some pratt flashing a camera in your face at the same time.

I have been here two weeks and have not heard of any raids of late, although some of the Thai orientated clubs were raided when I first arrived. I think the raids and piss tests are likely to be aimed towards the Thai places, and maybe the odd disco. Lately the problem seems to be armed youths, guns and the odd hatchet, making trouble amongst themselves, perhaps that is keeping the police 'busy'.

I agree that with your limited time you should go straight to Pattaya, from the airport! Four days is not enough! The 'Hard Rock' hotel is the crappy old Merlin with coloured lights on the balconies! If you are a younger person it may suit you, but better can be had for less of a price. As a first timer may I suggest 'reviews', Penthouse. What you should and shouldn't miss is up to you, but with only 4 days I wouldn't bother with Tiger Zoo or rock gardens. It is a tired line but get to the FLB and make friends...go on a crawl with a few and enjoy.

There has been flooding in Pattaya, two heavy rains while I have been here over the last 2 weeks. TV is claiming that the water shortages are 'over', but I wonder if the people selling water to the hotels will be happy to return to their previous employment? The true weather vane says water is back, you can wash your hands in the walking Street GO-GOs again!

According to my Bangkok post there will be some VIPs landing there in a few days, but the 'open for passengers' is stated as mid 2006. Latest 'problem' I read about, birdstrikes!

You have had a lot of replies but I thought I would add my ha'penny worth as I have just done exactly the same thing, got a one way mileage ticket. You only asked about getting into Thailand..........not out again..(.which is not a problem either.) Strictly speaking, if you enter Thailand without a visa, getting the 30 day on arrival, you are supposed to be in possession of proof of a flight out of Thailand, but immigration there never checks that. My only concern would be if your carrier would let you board, but as they issued the ticket it would be surprising that they give you a problem. I will go with a tourist 60 day visa and therefore no return flight proof is required. Tickets to return home work out cheaper from Thailand (than say the UK), and I have seen many one-way offers there.

I think you will find that it is union members who associate with the Socialist elements, when I was a Union representative some twits kept calling me 'comrade'. I do not understand the mentality of people who think 'someone' owes them a living? Will destroying your employer improve your working conditions?
