A lot of that has to do with contracts and competition from other services including cable. Unfortunately! My TV is not hooked up to the net. My widescreen is a few years old and not very smart. (hehe, please avoid obvious comparisons) My modem has wifi so I could maybe connect to my XBox 360 - is that possible? Samsung came out with an adapter I think to make my TV smarter. Still need to connect to wifi. Then I can explore other options available including Netflix digital - which I believe has even less than the disk-in-the-mail option. But I hear you. I was unsure who Kate Walsh is and looked her up and noticed in 1408 she is uncredited. I do not answer nearly as much as some here because some of you see far more cinema than I do or have. I always learn things here and put them on my Netflix list.
