  1. Anyone know if the Flippers are doing low-season deals this year ?. Last August I stayed 14 nights for the price of 10.
  2. I'm planning to stay nthere from about the 20 July. Plan to just walk in - they will have plenty of room this time of year
  3. I'm in town for 3 weeks from the 14th July and would rather like to have a go at this. They have a full marathon, half marathon and 10 kilometre event. No way I would try the marathon, but I hope I could manage the half ( 21 Km). A half marathon in England is no problem, but maybe the heat would stop me in Pattaya, where the furthest I've run is Soi 8 to Jontien and return (Maybe 12 Km). Apparently the event is organised from the TAT office in Pratamnuk Road, but maybe I will be too late to enter on the 14th. Anyone else got any information ?. This is the best web-site I found:- www.dus
  4. Interesting web-site about Isaan www.peopleteams.org/isaan/
  5. Going to LOS I usually have less than 15 kilos, whereas returning I have more. I am sometimes amused to see how much luggage some holiday travellers have. I was in the check-in queue last year and this guy was trying to hand over 51 kilos in 2 massive bags. He was giving the check-in agent a really hard time. She was trying to get it across to him that there was a limit to how much he was allowed. Some passengers seem to have more carry-on luggage than I have in total. I'm often one of the last aboard and when I locate my seat, the bins are usually crammed. In March I had to help a female cabi
  6. Tom I dont think the Backpackerexpress people have got us sex tourists in mind ! QUOTE FROM THEIR WEBSITE "When you use your funclub funcard with our accredited partners you also accumulate loyalty bonuses which are easily redeemable. " I wonder if Pete has signed up with funclub yet ?. Perhaps you will be able to use the card at Peppermint !. "backpackersXpress will provide a network of accredited hostels and other accommodations at our destinations and surrounds. Our accredited partners will be selected for their ability to provide quality accommodation, A1 hospitality and the best
  7. I Dont think its Gold's Gym - you are refering to the Universe Gym (about 200 yards from Soi 8 on Beach Road). Yes the down-side is the lack of aircon, but there are a lot of serious trainers in there, so plenty of motivation. Think I paid about 900 baht for 3 weeks, during my last trip - so its not expensive
  8. I had the blood on sheet problem during my last stay at the EP. She did not tell me that "Men Come" and in the morning when I came out of the shower I noticed she had folded up the sheets and I thought this was a little unusual. When I looked they were covered in blood especially where I had been shagging her. No way was I going to try and clean them - I just owned up to the chambermaid and she wrote out a charge note for 650, which was added to my bill.
  9. I dont think the Thai holiday will make any difference to availability at the hotels you have quoted. It seems to me that during the holidays you see many Thai families on the beaches, very few seem to stay in hotels - probably they come for the day by bus and depart in the evening. I have made 7 trips to Pty and now and I never bother to reserve a room, but I have to say that I never visited in the busy Christmas/New Year Period. On arrival I just drop my bag at a bar and tour the Soi 7/8 area to see what rates are on offer. I stayed at two of your hotels "Skytop" & Apex and have writt
  10. There seems to be no availability on Qatar for my July/August Trip. Travelbag were showing flights Manchester>Doha>Bangkok at £515 up to a week ago, but when I tried to book today I was told there was no availability. Instead I have got Emirates fro £580 inc tax. Dont think this is too bad, as I paid £540 for March/April.
  11. I spent a very enjoyable day on Koh Larn with a girl. I paid 150 each at a desk where the old pier meets Beach Road. They took us on a mini bus to the New Pier where we boarded the ferry to one of the Beachs on Koh Larn. The 150 did not include lunch, but I was persuaded to go that way as I was told that the 20 baht ferry does not take you to a beach - only to the village. I dont know if this is true or not, but we are only talking "money small". The boat took us to an excellent Beach, where chairs and sun shades were free, although I was ripped off to the extent of 100 baht for hiring a rubb
  12. I was in Pattaya last week, and looked for fake Rolexs on the stalls in Si Buakhow market. There were none to be seen and I was told that there had been a crack-down on fake merchandise within Thailand. Later on the Beach I was approached by a watch vendor who sold me a his and hers Rolex set, including spare batteries for 900 baht. He started at 1500 for the two but would not budge below 900. I then purchased a fake Omega for 500. Whilst we negotiated his head was going round like radar, keeping an eye open for the police. In transit at Dubai airport I saw real Rolex watches of the same
  13. I,ve just arrived and was out till 2.30 last night. Basically no difference from my previous visit in September GoGo close 2 am. Bars turn off lights and music, but you can drink 24 hours if you have the stamina
  14. For interests sake I decided on Friday to see how feasible this service was rather than taking the normal limo . There was no problems but from emerging from Arrivals to hotel took 4.5 hours, rather than 2.0 with the limo. Wait for bus A3 20 minutes (They run every half hour). Only 3 people on this bus - whereas the A1 to Kao San Road left full of backpackers. 1 hour to Eastern Terminal, Sukhumvit Road 1 Hour. Bus station very busy with many people wanting to travel to Pty - mainly bar girls & economy minded farangs . Needed to wait 40 minutes for bus in heat and humidity guard
  15. Does anyone remember the unfortunate Winston ?. Over a period he placed a series of wonderful posts on the board of his adventures in Pattaya. But one day he had a serious motorbike accident and was seriously hurt. With no insurance and limited funds he was in deep shit and a rescue attempt had to be mounted by board members. Don't travel away from your home country without insurance - its worth it if only for peace of mind.
  16. Thanks Guys for your information !. I wonder how many shirts I could take back without potential problems from HM Customs ?. I dont want to sell them just give them away to friends and family. If I could take 20 that would be great. Now Crackpot we are not talking fooball on TV - just football shirts - there is a difference you know ! Cheers Dave - Only 12 days to go !
  17. Funisall Have you had a reply ? I e-mailed 3 days ago them to make a reservation from 19/3/04, but have not had a reply. address seem to be OK - I used it 6 months ago when I reserved
  18. Anyone seen these shirts on sale in LOS yet ? I will be there in 2 weeks when I hope to buy a few for family and friends to avoid the rip-off prices in the U.K. I am informed that the Patpong Market in Bkk is the best place, but I have bought football shirts in the past at the Soi Buakow Market.
  19. Arriving for 3 weeks in funtown . Anyone like to share ? Dave
  20. Just want to reinforce the point made earlier about the mozzies - they come out at night with a vengeance and bite, so long trousers are a definite advantage. Personally I prefer track suit bottoms to jeans, not only because i'm a sporty kind of guy, but because jeans are hot and heavy in the humid season and the right track suit bottoms are more flexible and cool. Could be an advantage also when being persued by an ex-girlfriend you dont want to see again !.
  21. Electric Blue agogo on walking street has service girls in uniforms that I have been told resemble those worm by school girls in Japan !.
  22. Dayshift I never reserve in advance when going in the low season although I suppose March is a bit in between high and low. Probably better to do this if you want a particular hotel, although you will not be stuck for somewhere to stay, you just might have to try several before finding a vacancy. Lots of medium range hotels in the Soi7/8 area. Check the hotels section on this site - an excellent resource particularly for newbies. You will normally have to pay some cash up front - I usually give them 3 or 4 days in advance. I never have had to pay a deposit when booking - but then I alwa
  23. Hi Stiffer - just noticed your post about the Eastiny Place. I have stayed there a few times over the last 2 years and can definitey recommend it , although I have no pics. Its a fairly new hotel with a large swimming pool, which is a selling point for me. The rooms are a bit spartan but everything works and they keep them clean. I recommend trying for a room on an upper floor if you turn in before 2.00 (noise from Soi 8 bars) I'm due there from 18 March to 8 April - so maybe I will run into you. How much have you paid by the way ? Regards dave from manchester
  24. ??? One Pattaya mystery I have never been able to work out is the fact that most falangs seem to travel Airport > Pty by limo/taxi, but on the return they use a mini bus. (This always seems to me to be a appropriate reflection on the sadness of the event !). But the question is what happens to all these vehicles after they have delivered their passengers to departures ? - there are always dozens of them when I an returning. I know of one mini bus service Airport > Pty but the timing never seems to be convenient for me. Would a good cheap charlie tactic be to go up to departures and
  25. Sparkey - My flight arrives bangkok 12:05 19 March - e-mail me if yours co-incides enough to share a taxi. If not I'm always up for a beer or two with like minded Pattaya enthusiasts. Cheers Dave
