Simple reason. American football like Canadian hockey has too many cost restrictions.American football just at the secondary school level is very costly. As much as few thousand USD per player in equipment for a season. The training and field conditioning equipment alone is pricey. Then include weight rooms. Soccer is rather simple to play. And very cheap. Find an adequate patch of dirt. Mark off the boundaries. Some construction debris if you are in a poor country to make a goal or proper soccer nets if you are in a wealthy country. You got soccer. I have played it barefoot on the beach in Bali many times. In a pinch you can create soccer anywhere. As atlas said, anyone can play. And realistically at least at the recreational level there is no reason that it can't be played well into ones 60's. It would be a good thing to reduce the number of overweight kids and adults.

Areas of influence. Mexico is closer to the US than Europe. So we should have a shot at influencing them. Given the average height and that weight training is not that popular in old Mexico, they are stuck with futbol Europa. Just got back from my quarterly Mexico run. They are still ticked off about that last game.

I actually like Rugby as well. Some Australians started a league in Las Vegas sponsored by a popular local British pub. Rather fun to play like soccer for that matter. But I can watch rugby as well.

Not really. I played soccer from age 5 till I was eligible for real football my freshman (first) year of high school. Then on a recreational basis during my first two years of college. I even have a few relatives that got college scholarships for playing soccer.I was tall and skinny and could run. Made me a good forward and a decent full back. I suspect I have played far more polka dot ball than the majority of European fans on this board. Judging by their physiques.But to say it matches in discipline or physical conditioning American football is the peak of idiocity.

The one thing I cannot ever understand about World Cup or soccer in general is the fascination with it in Latin America. A culture that is so based on macho goes crazy for the most feminine sport imaginable. While American style football at least requires some intense physical conditioning, as long as you can run a bit in soccer you are in. Soccer players are frail metrosexual types. American football players, even the gay ones, are tough as nails with many built like a freight train.

Anybody know about financing a condo? I have seen a few different versions. Thai sales person told me I could finance through a Thai bank if I had a residency visa or formed a business in Thailand. I have seen ads for Singapore banks that will finance up to 90% if you have a suitable income level. What do most people do?

We have a somewhat similar problem in Las Vegas. People arrive with problems and the lifestyle amplifies them. So many end up homeless. The local government decided to encourage people to return home. As an alternative to jail they are given a bus or plane ticket home, one way. They have returned people from many countries as well as Americans. Works well. Maybe Pattaya should try rounding up and deporting homeless foreigners.

I get the value and purpose in giving away the gifts and it is a great thing. But is the whole Santa/Christmas thing appropriate in a Buddhist country? I would think not.
