Airbus and Boeing products running behind schedule
joekicker replied to BigDUSA's topic in Idle Chit Chat
ah ah ah ah oooh aaahhh I'm ooo ah... Whew. That was great. I've got to have a cigarette. . -
Now you are joking, right? "New pilots" for THAI who fly international routes have made quite a lot of landings at Bangkok airports -- quite a lot. All of them, no exceptions. Not as many as "old pilots" for THAI, but lots more than most pilots for most other airlines -- although not all, perhaps. Don't you know ANYTHING about Thai Airways? There is absolutely no such thing as "she" who is a pilot. Bangkok Airways, yes. Sheesh. Gee Zeus. You are actually serious. Hard to believe. .

593.5. I got a LOT of extra skips on the rocks. 1553 on Super. No challenge I can see, no excitment - nothing relative seems to happen after you hit it until it settles. .
-
Absolutely not. Absolutely. Bet your axx. So to speak. Familiarity breeds knowledge and safety. There are other factors in choosing my flight, but that is definitely one - the hometown theory actually works. .

FWIW one man's opinion, if they're both cattle class, I'd take THAI. If you can get Eva's better economy, by all means take Eva but for that price you probably cannot. I like THAI atmosphere, gals, food just a tad more -- plus there's no chance the driver is making his first-ever stop at Bangkok airport, which give a bit more confidence. Especially going TO Thailand, THAI just seems a little more, well, smoother. The other thing to consider is the timing -- departure and arrival convenience. .

Fly to Udorn or to Khon Kaen and drive from there. .

Whats the best cd ripping software?
joekicker replied to Obsession's topic in Technical problems or questions.
Heh. Do we credit CDex or blame your ears? Just kidding. My ears are so bad that anything but a tinny, horrible rip sounds great to me. A huge amount of my music listening is in the car, anyhow. I don't doubt that some sensitive people can hear the difference but I think a lot of MP3 complainers are like wine snobs who you easily fool with any half-decent rip. That said, nothing wrong at all with getting good software to do the best possible rip-and-conversion, nothing at all. . -
Whats the lowest fare you've ever paid to Los ?
joekicker replied to Chivas's topic in Airline Discussion
How come free isn't mentioned. I fly free reasonably often, less than free if you count no money at all for the ticket, plus an upgrade. . -

Suvarnabhumi to undergo 76.5bn baht expansion
joekicker replied to Samsonite's topic in Airline Discussion
Bit of a joke, that first post. Let me try again. They've begun actual testing. And it works. The actual real prime minister actually went for a real ride on it last week. Three weeks before they put the PM on it, they made a bunch of school kids go on the first test drive just to make sure it was safe for the Right Honourable Member from Dusit, Mr Abhisit. They haven't announced a target date for a while that I've seen. The last one I saw was an actual opening of both lines (express and local) in April. I wouldn't be surprised to see that moved up. The problem is not the railway itself, which is on time, under budget. It could have been operating by now -- months ago in fact. But the actual project has been severely held up by the State Railway workers' union. It's not entirely clear the union opposition has been overcome but it seems so as of now. . -

Definitely by next year or so, depending on the Kra Canal progress. . -

"Widely acclaimed". Now there's a scientific statement. Tell you what. You get all the pro-EAC stuff you can find. I'll get two positive recommendations for CDex for each one. EAC, which is excellent software, by the way is legally freeware (for personal use) and requires no piracy at all. You can get it here at the official EAC site . -
Discussion on whether a post is off topic is off topic. .

Fair enough, heh. But you know what? You need a system that gives YOU security. There's no such thing as a secure computer unless, as a friend says, it has been smashed to bits, embedded in cement and thrown overboard over a deep ocean trench. So you need something that makes you feel good while provding the best security you can. Some people double-glaze their windows, some people put bars over them, some people do both and some people hire an armed guard. It really IS up to you. .

Looking for Inspiration for the New Year
joekicker replied to grabitanrun's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Most people spend the night on walking street aimlessly going from bar to bar. There are shows like the fireworks, plus every decent hotel has something, from a night club act to a dance band at least. . -
Very good luck with this. Very roughly $1,000 a day for a couple or three days for something like Edina seems quite reasonable. The harder part will probably be getting the word out. You might want to have a little press party -- do a day trip with selected Bangkok (and one or two Pattaya) media people and you'd get some publicity I'm sure. Hard work herding those cats but you can't buy the sort of publicity that travel mags and industry publications give you. I have to back up MM on the site re-direction. From the link you gave you can quickly click on Edina of course. But then, lord that background is about as annoying as anything I've seen since the beginning of the millennium. Something just a little less rivetting might be better for a business site? It's hard to concentrate on the words when the psychedlic flashing lights are going off all around. .

Absolutely. Thais are roughly as much into ghosts and believing in ghosts and fearing ghosts as the English. As a bonus, Thais make MUCH scarier movies about ghosts than anyone else on Earth. .

Running two security programs for the same purpose is highly NOT recommended. If you don't trust one, at least only use the second one as a scanner for backup. Nothing good, and several things bad can happen by running these two at the same time, or ANY two that do roughly the same thing such as anti-virus, anti-adware, etc. .
-
Think about just how useless a package is if it only can find stuff it is looking for. The first new virus, trojan, phishing expedition just waltzes right by Norton. Norton is useless in the face of new stuff. You've never had a problem since you've been using Norton - but I've never had any cobras in my house since I switched from Sony to a Panasonic TV. Maybe Norton... MAYBE Norton had nothing to do with your lack of problems. But you missed my point entirely, which was: Why pay for anything at all? "Read some reviews" indeed and find that Norton is not ever Number One at anything. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be a missionary, you use what gives you confidence. But there is no LOGICAL reason to pay for security for a personal computer. .
-
That's a good question. Here's another one. Why would you pay for a program that doesn't ask you questions? You make it sound like Norton is almost as good as Microsoft Security Essentials, even though it's bigger. .

You don't even have to be a technophobe, sometimes it sucks. For ripping, no need to get involved with that. . -
That's good. Really, that's good. The trouble with Norton/Symantec and others is that they are only BIG programs. .

What do you want to rip? There is EXCELLENT free and legal software for every possible ripping job. If it's just music, CDex is excellent, for example. There is no ripping job that can't be done with truly free software. . -
Oh definitely, the first thing you should do on your first arrival after a long flight to a brand new country is drag your baggage all over one of the world's biggest airports and try to follow the Internet directions to find a semi-legal taxi with a completely unaccountable driver who doesn't speak your language and has Clue 0 where your hotel is, so you can save $10 -- let's be really generous and say $20. [/sarcasm] I just don't understand this sort of advice. Yeah, okay, you're an old Suvarnabhumi hand, but the OP isn't. If you go to the taxi desk, or the limo desk or even if you pre-book here with one of the dodgy agencies, at least you're able to tell people where you're going in a mutual language. "Go up stairs" and start bargaining? Come on, that's not really helpful. .

All of the major freeware anti-virus software is better than most or all of the for-pay stuff. At the moment, the best single protective software package for Windows is the free Microsoft Security Essentials. .
