winner, I was going to stay there on my last trip, but they put me in a room in the old wing where some renovation was going on and the bathroom was the type without a bathtub, just a shower hose in the corner. Checked out and went next door to the Eastiny Place for a lower rate and a better room. Sunshines email: sunshineptty@yahoo.com Other hotels on Soi 8 besides Eastiny Place is the Eastiny Inn Emil

Hub, Wish I could join you guys, but I'll be thinking of you Thanksgiving day. If you've never tried the Ruby bar on Soi 6 it worth a look. Very nice bar inside and decent S/T rooms with large mirrors on the walls and the ceiling. I'm looking forward to your report of you and Chicken. Emil

Crelus, If your trying to save some baht, have you posted your arrival date and time on this board under cost sharing, you might get lucky and split the cost. Also if your ready to leave at 9 AM, Noon, or 7 PM you can catch the Thai Limo shuttle for 200 baht. Emil

This past May, I booked a flight on Cathay Pacific through American Airlines using my American airmiles. When I checked in for my return flight this past Sunday in Bangkok I was informed that the return flight from Hong Kong to San Francisco had already left Hong Kong. My ticket showed the flight leaving at 1135 PM, when in fact that flight leaves at 435 PM. I had always assumed that if the day and flight were correct that the computer reservation system would not allow an incorrect time. Anyway the Cathay Pacific people denied it was their mistake since American issued the ticket, however

What movies are playing /Exchange rate
Emil replied to Crelus's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Crelus, The movies change every week. Big C has 6 or 7 screens and Royal Plaza only 2. Just returned yesterday and the prices charged for the movies vary from 70 to 90 baht. The new Bond movie was being promoted and should be available while you are there. A/C in the theater is very cold, so wear some warm clothing and if you take a Thai girl make sure she has proper clothing or she will be extremely cold. Drink prices vary depending where you drink and at what time. Open air beer bars have Singa Gold for 35 Baht during their happy hours and some of the go-gos have draft beer for 35 -
Flying coach, I try to get an aisle seat behind one of the partions or in the emergency exit row. This way no one in front of you is reclining in your lap and provides you with maximum leg room. Emil

Cost of hiring jetski &/or speedboat?
Emil replied to simonb's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
If you only want to go to the island you can get a ride on one of the scheduled boats that leave from the pier. I think the cost is about 40 baht one way. Emil -
List of bars with unusual themes or 'gimmicks' ?
Emil replied to simonb's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
simonb, The Freeway Bar is not located on 2nd Rd. 2nd Rd turns into Phratamnak Rd south of South Pattaya Rd and if you stay on Phratamnak Rd on your way to Jomtien you'll see a big sign that points towards another Rd and says, I think 100 meters to the bar. Some other bars with unusual "gimmicks" you should try is Nice with Ice and the Pump Station on Soi Post Office, Billion Beer Bar on Pattayaland 1 and some of the bars on Soi 6. The "gimmicks' you'll experience will not be what you would normally encounter at home. ;D ;D ;D Emil -
I've watched the ESPN Sunday evening game in my hotel room, I believe it started around 7 in the morning. The early games on Sundays and Thanksgiving day would start around 11 PM, which wouldn't be too bad, but the 2nd game would start around 2 AM. I'll be following the games when I'm over there in 2 weeks, but will not be pulling for any particular team, just the players that are on my fantasy team. Emil

anic, I take the Thai Limo's mini bus everytime that I fly Cathay Pacific. By the time I clear immigration and customs its 11:45. Just go to the Thai Limo counter in terminal 1 and pay the 200 baht. It is a direct trip to Pattaya stopping at the Thai Limo office on 3rd Rd where they have baht busses waiting to take you to your hotel for another 40-60 baht. The trip take about 2 1/2 hours and makes one pit stop about 1/2 way for a bathroom/smoke/refreshment break. Emil

Problems w/Reservatrions @ Eastiny Place Hotel
Emil replied to flrogue's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
flrogue, I've also not had a respose from them. In the past (as recently as this July) I would get a reply from them within 24 hours. Let me know if you find out anything, I was hoping to get a room Oct 22. Emil -
Steve, If you go to the top of this page and open Orientation, then Pattaya Map, the Residence Garden would be a little below the botton of the map where you see Phratamnak and 3 Rd intersect, I would guess less than 1/2 a mile to FLB. The Flippers are on Soi 7 & 8 and guessing again about 2 miles to FLB. However you have constant baht buses making the loop up 2nd Rd to North Pattaya Rd, then down Beach Rd to South Pattaya RD and over to 2nd Rd for 10 baht. If you only want to visit FLB and Walking St, then the Residence Garden would be more convenient, but if you want to include th

Shooter, This services is operated by the same people that run the Thai Limo. The last time I used them in March they had 3 scheduled departures times at 0900, 1200, and 1900, and the three times that I've used them they left on time. The first time that I used them there were only 4 of us and they used a mimi van. The next two times there were about 15 of us and they used a mimi bus. Trip took a little less than 2 1/2 hours which included a pit stop about halfway to use the bathroom, have a smoke, and to purchase some refreshments. The driver didn't use the elevated expressway, so I

Shooter, If your looking to save some baht, you might want to use the Thai Limo mimi bus service if you can get to their desk by noon. It will take you about 45 minutes to an hour longer than the limo using the expressway, but the total cost is only about 260 baht. I envy you as I still have a little over 5 weeks before I get over there. Emil

Pete, I did a hotel review about a week ago, but I haven't seen it appear. Did it get lost in cyberspace or does this section only get updated a few times a month? Emil

Answer to your first question is if they're giving you the miles take them, you have nothing to loose. You don't necessarily have to stay with one carrier to earn miles for a free flight. I have an American Airlines account and you can earn miles on this account if you fly with Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines Alaska Airlines Quantas, and about a dozen more. American Airlines doesn't fly to Bangkok, but they let me use my airmiles to fly free on Cathay Pacific. Also their is a shitload of other ways to earn these miles i.e. credit card use, long distance carrier, hotel stays, car rentals and

Soi 7/stevens365, Those flights that you purchased via priceline.com, did they qualify for frequent flyer miles? Emil
-
senseiar, I'm not sure if the airlines have a plane with that kind of range. It might require a modification of in-flight refueling which would then cost alot more. Emil
-
Wwax, I forgot to mention that when you make reservations, ask for a room where the balcony overlooks the pool. The other options will be either it faces the Sunshine hotel or 2nd Rd. Emil
-
Wwax, Every time that I fly Cathay Pacific I use the Thai mimi bus. By the time I clear immigration and customs, its around 11:40 AM and only about a twenty minute wait. Trip takes about 2 1/2 hours, so I guess when you compare it to a limo or taxi, the time it takes to get to Pattaya is about an hour longer. However, if I arrived in Pattaya at 1:30 PM or 2:30, I wouldn't hit the bars until around 7 anyway. There are taxi stand on 2nd RD that advertise trips to the airport for 800 baht, but I only use these if I have an early flight, otherwise I take the mini vans that you can make res

Wwax, Here's their email address: eastiny@loxinfo.co.th Address it to Mark Nookham I posted a review on it the other day, but I see it hasn't appeared yet in the reviews section. The one negative about this place is if your a smoker, they want you to smoke in designated areas. Pool is ok, restaurant area is seperate, and not in your room, but your balcony is ok. I might see you in Oct, I'm arriving on the 22nd. Emil

Daveuk & Leadbelly, Have to agree about Eastiny being a great value. Paid 650 this past trip after paying 700 the trip before. Regarding the ID card, when I stayed with a lady more than one night, they would not pick up their card so they could come and go on their own. Stevoh, Thanks for the tip on the pool at Mike's shopping mall and the shop girls. Emil

Hub, JAL wouldn't let me select my seat because it was a discounted ticket, but I arrived early at the airport because I caught a ride with my buddy who works for United at SFO and was the first one in line when they opened the counter. I asked for an aisle seat and she asked me if I would be willing to set in the emergency exit row which I accepted. I didn't have anyone in front of me for at least 8 ft except on take-off and landing when the flight attendants sat in their fold down seats about 5 feet in front of me. I'm guessing that they don't allocate these seat until they can see yo

Hub, You might want to take advantage of the Cathay Pacific special for a future trip. That would then give you sufficient miles for a free trip if they offer that 45K special next time. Thanks for the info on the NW promotion. I have around 25K in that account laying around and although I won't be able to take advantage of it now, I will check their website monthly to see if they offer it again in the future. Did you get those travel dates that you mentioned earlier? Emil

Ineed a mock budget for my visit..?
Emil replied to DONLUCIANO's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Don, You mentioned that you consider yourself sexually active. This will not really effect your budget unless your require more than one partner a day. With a little luck and a little time searching you can find a beer bar girl for 200B barfine and 1000B for L/T who will fulfill all your desires, unless your into like Echster says, more of the freaky experiences. Also if you spend more than 1 day with them, they'll be giving you body and foot massages while you lay in bed and let them watch their Thai shows on TV. I've even had one that gave me a manicure and pedicure. Also if your pa
