If your talking about one of the small open air beer bars I don't think you need very much to start. Most of them are leased by the month. You would have to buy your stock, TV, sound system and be able to pay for your utilities and salaries and other misc. Emil

I don't know the distance, but it takes me about 10 minutes to walk that distance. Those maps are not to scale, there is a big distance from Soi 6 to Centeral Rd. Emil

Harvey, Another reason for the low occupancy rate, they keep building more hotels and adding on to others. Unless they start tearing down existing hotels or tourism not only gets back to normal but actually increases, we will continue to see good deals except maybe during the Christmas/Ney Years period. I'm staying at Mike Beach Hotel on this trip. It's located on Soi 4 near Sussie's Massage. Close to Soi 6, Sabai massages, Soi 2 beer bars and Big C. Friendly staff, guest friendly, quiet area, mid-size fridge, balcony, shower/tub, and A/C doesn't turn off when you leave the room. 600 baht per night. Emil

There are many hotels near Walking Street and at that time of the year you should have no trouble getting a room. You can book a room for your first day or two and check out some of the hotels in the area. Just walk in and ask what is the price, they will give you a quote for a daily rate. Then ask them what they will charge you for your length of stay which will be lower especially if your staying an extended period of time. If you like the rate ask them to see the room. My favorite hotel is South Pattaya is the Yensabai Mansion about 5 minutes from FLB. Excellent hotel if you don't need a pool, cost 700 a night and 665 if you stay 2 weeks. Emil

Soi7, Some other good seats on Cathay are the ones directly behind business class. Plenty of leg room because there is no one in front of you and your the first one in coach to get off the plane. Emil

Set a personal best this morning. Arrived on Thai Air at 12:15 AM. Sat in front on coach, walked fast to immigration and no one was in line. Waited for my luggage about 10 minutes and brezzed thru customs and headed straight to Thai Limo in terminal 1, before I got to the window their rep at the door motioned me to him. Asked him how much to Pattaya, he replied 1500 baht and I was in the limo and on my way. Total time from the time I stepped of the aircraft was 15 minutes. Great to be back in town. Emil

Big D, You might have to wait a little while, but Thai Limo runs a mini bus to Pattaya that leaves the airport at 1200 for 200 baht. Emil

It usually only takes me 10-15 minutes to get through immigration, then I have to wait about another 15-20 minutes for my checked luggage. Emil

Shilo, Southeast of Pattaya, sapphires and rubies are mined in the Chantaburi province. Suspposedly at the Khao Ploi Wen mines you can bargain directly for the gems. Emil

I hope she recovers fully and that she realizes how fortunate she was to have you around to help her out. It sounds like that even if she was wearing a helmet that she would have sustained many of the injuries. On my last trip while I was riding a baht bus I noticed a TG on motorbike with what looked like a 5 year old sitting behind her and a 2 year old sitting in front of her. If she would have had to slam on the breaks the 2 year old would have gone flying over the handle bars. In a way I wish the Thai police would be stricter in what they allow. Emil

They both have good locations and both have mini marts next to them. I don't know about the Inn, but at the Place they ask for you to not smoke in the rooms. The Place has small balconies and the pool is located between the two wings on the 3rd floor. Emil

I did a review about 2 months ago. At that time they didn't have a pool but the owner told me he was getting ready to build one. Send him an email and ask him if its completed if you need one. Emil

I saw rates published for Sawasdee Hotel for 9,000 and 11,000 baht per month. Located on Soi Buskaow between Soi Diana and Soi Honey. Also on Soi Yensabai, the White Rose Mansion had monthly rates less than 600 baht per night and Yensabai condos are around 500 a night. Emil

Soi 7, There isn't a VISA logo on the debit card. I saw your question on this issue elsewhere and the only reason I didn't answer is because the debit card is the one that I always leave in the hotel security box so I couldn't say for sure if it would work. I plan on using it this upcoming trip to see if it would work before I let you know. If it does work I will leave the charge card in the security box and carry the debit card on me for the reasons that you had brought up. Emil
