  1. Thanks, Emil ....... sounds like a fraction of the cost that would be paid in either the US or in rip-off Britain. Alan
  2. Thanks, Roland - that is pretty much what i thought. Alan
  3. Just had a quick look at the Pattaya International Hospital web-site but no obvious indication of the cost of root canal treatment. Anyone know what this is likely to cost and how the treatment takes? Also noticed that they have a "pre-marriage check-up" whatever that may be? and a section for would be ladyboys Alan
  4. I've booked the RG through the link from the board here for my last 2 visits to Pattaya plus I've booked it again the same way for my trip this November. I've also booked hotels in Amsterdam, Bruges and Prague via the internet and never had any problems. Alan
  5. In the main, I use my ATM card in Thailand (Nationwide Flex a/c) but I always bring some travellers cheques by way of back up. On the sunject of ATM's, are there any machines in the arrivals area of the airport (terminal 2)? Alan
  6. RB Only Pete can change your user name. If you send him a PM, I'm sure he'll attend to it as soon as possible. Alan
  7. Doubt whether anyone's hook can be any worse than mine was at it's worst. Playing in a stiff left to right wind - maybe 30mph or more (?)I had to aim along the edge of the gorse bushes on the RIGHT hand side of the fairway and still managed to hook the ball out of bounds. Playing in the opposite direction, I was aiming even further over the gorse on the right hand side of the fairway and on a very wide fairway still went out of bounds on the left. I reckon that the ball must have moved some 70 - 80 yards from right to left in mid air. Alan
  8. If the flight attendants were drunk, it makes you wonder about how sober the pilot was? Alan
  9. When posting a reply to a topic, I got the following error message - "Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information. The error returned was: Flood control is enabled on this board, please wait 30 seconds before replying or posting a new topic " Anyone know what this means? My reply was posted OK. It may be that 2 members had tried to post a reply simultaneously as a reply had been added between me reading the previous post and replying to it.
  10. I would also add tetanus to the list of jabs required. Also, if you havn't had the typhoid one before you will, as far as I can recall, need 2 jabs a month apart. If you're sticking to Bangkok and Pattaya, malria tablets aren't required nor is yellow fever unless you're arriving from an infected country. (I've had this jab but that was because I went to Zimbabwe and Botswana a few years ago). Alan
  11. The leading players have now just about completed the front 9 holes of the last round and there's a 3 way tie at 9 under. It looks as though it'll be between Hamilton, Mickelson and Els though Frenchman Levet isn't out of it at 7 under. Alan
  12. As a follow up to my last post, my local 9 hole course, which had a par of 31 - 4 par 4's and 5 par 3's - boasts what has to be one of the hardest par 3's on any course anywhere in the world. The course is at Anstruther and is the 5th. It is 240 yards in length and does not have a single bunker on it. It doesn't need a bunker! The medal tee is on the upper level whilst the green is some 50 feet below. However, the line to the green follows the slope of the hill and immediately in front of the green a bit of rock juts out so from the tee, you cannot see the green never mind the pin. From t
  13. Thanks, Thumper I'll bear that in mind when I finally make the move. I don't plan on buying a car, at least to begin with, and assume that transport will be available for those who need it. I'm quite happy to share the cost of petrol etc. Alan
  14. So what does 70 views say? Somebody must have been interested? Or are there too many people on here with too much free time on their hands? Shit! Just realised that I've been on the internet for over 2 hours Alan
  15. I too have never been asked to produce my return ticket but bear in mind that when you complete your immigration card, you are asked to provide details of your return flight on it. I suspect that if that was left blank you just might be asked some awkward questions. Do what Tom is advising qnd you shouldn't have any problems. By the way, whatever you do, DO NOT overstay your visa or that could lead to all sorts of complications. Have fun Alan
  16. Another couple - No regrets and I don't love you but I think I like you Alan
  17. Thanks, Deuce. I'm still in 2 minds as to whether to take up golf again - especially if my game is as bad as it was 20 odd years ago! Alan
  18. erik_e Tangent's correct. The RG isn't that far from the action - it's only a few minutes from Walking Street by baht bus. There are always plenty of them passing and I seldom had to wait more than a minute or so for one to come along. I'm staying there again in November this year. Alan
  19. I used to be a fellow hacker until I stopped playing about 20 or so years ago. I'll bear these places in mind when I retire to Pattaya next year. Anyone know the cost of a set of clubs? (Some of my exisitng clubs are ancient - some of them must now be close on 50 years old - older than I am!!!!) Alan
