  1. Just had a NICE, reasonably priced Mexican meal there last evening. Quick service, VERY good food, and most things priced between 100-225B. And, most importantly, my 'teeruk' said ARROI regarding her Thai food
  2. Here's one that LOOKS nice on the outside but the food is POOR, the service WORSE, and NOT cheap-- Max's Italian Restaurant, Soi Post Office close to Second Rd But, besides all that, I reccomend it

  4. This is an article from the BKK Post, 27/3/07 Traffic picks up on direct US flights By Post Reporters Thai Airways International has decided to continue offering non-stop flights to the United States due to improved passenger loads. The national carrier had earlier been considering ending the loss-ridden service. Management resolved to maintain the services as well as continue to use Airbus A340-500s, blamed for the high costs, on the Bangkok-Los Angeles and Bangkok-New York routes, THAI executives said in a statement issued yesterday. The management was said to be enco
  5. The following link, from Thai Airways web site, contradicts what the BKK Post quoted the President of Thai Airways saying: http://www.thaiairwaysusa.com/EN/News/News...tion.aspx?Id=24 Oh well, TIT
  6. Thanks for the excellent REAL-LIFE stories of a business owner in Thailand. Unfortunately FAR, FAR too many after vacationing in the Kingdom quickly develop ideas of 'starting a business' (usually a bar) and discovering how INCREDIBLY difficult it can be. Especially keeping it PROFITABLE over the long term.
  7. During that period, and for a only a couple of months, you're better off in a hotel. But make your reservation QUICKLY as things fill up fast!
  8. Not only is OVER PRICED, relative to rental costs, I don't think the location is that good. Buying there you'll probably want a car--which will add to your costs. Consider a beach view at either VT6 or Northshore which are both MORE centrally located for LESS money.
  9. Flew GF from BKk-HKG. Other than being CHEAP it sucks. Worst airline food I've had, dirty plane, and clueless attendants. But, being KEIANOW, I'm flying them again to HKG next month.
  10. I've never smoked but I think this is an EXCELLENT idea--Another illustration of the 'free market' at work. If you don't want to be smokers then don't fly them--enough said. The MARKET will ultimately judge if the demand's there.
  11. Yes--You can call landlines and cell phones. The quality is a mixed bag, so you get what you pay for.
  12. Here's a list of English only and bilingual schools around the Pattaya area-- http://home.earthlink.net/~galt1967/id32.html For what it's worth, B.E.S.T. School gets a lot of positive comments from parents.
  13. Here's some cheap ph cards to call Thailand: www.thaitel.com
  14. I've put together list of FREE WIFI hotspots-- Nova Park Apartments Soi Ar, Pattaya Central Rd Sunshine Vista Hotel Beach Rd, Soi 3 Bella Villa Prima Beach Rd, Soi 4 Queen Vic Hotel Beach Rd, Soi 6 Ma Maison Hotel Beach Rd, Soi 13 Shamrock Bar Beach Rd, Soi 13/4 Cheers Bar Beach Rd, Soi 13/4 Shenanigans Bar/Rest. Royal Garden Shop. Center Lewinsky's Restaurant Soi Pattayaland 1 Misty's A Gogo Soi Pattayaland 2 Tropical Bert's Second Rd, Soi 6 Any more I'm missing....?
  15. Here's a list of apartments--all of which are very centrally located. http://home.earthlink.net/~galt1967/id8.html Scroll half way down the page.
  16. You probably should check flight prices to Singapore and Hong Kong--If you leave on Christmas Day, for example, you might get a decent price. Then fly to BKK on a low cost carrier.
  17. I would still come but be aware the country's under 'martial law' and the constitution's been suspended. With that said, the immediate issue will probably early bar closings.
  18. The laptops are a GOOD start but they REALLY need to provide free Internet wi-fi. Their pretty useless without Internet acess.
  19. Here's some books ideas: http://home.earthlink.net/~galt1967/id19.html
  20. A poster on another board stated Sandy Spring recently installed wi-fi--true?
  21. Do on a search on this site but a few that immediately come to mind: White House Condotel--Soi13 Bella Villa Prima--Soi 4 Queen Vic--Soi 6 Sheraton Resort--Pratamnak Rd Both Starbucks on Beach Rd also have wifi--for a fee.
  22. With NWA, you have to use AT LEAST 120K miles USA-BKK or vice versa--And that's for 'economy'. I've booked a BUSINESS class ticket, for example, on NWA for early Jan, 07 for 120k--The return is economy for 60k (economy). Total, 180k miles. And ticket's 'purchase' price was $4500++!
  23. I would definitely check NWA--Yes, their service is POOR for the most part however I have ALWAYS been able to use my miles. Including during days around Christmas and New Year's--Business Class seats are also available, from my experience.
  24. I would be VERY careful about taking a taxi this late--especially from Don Muang. It's FAR too easy for you to have either driver who's not slept in the past 24 hours and/or be in a taxi barely in running condition.
