  1. I have booked RG for the 17th through May 1st. Da got back to me after I wrote to Ib and arranged things. What does laundry cost? I don't want to bring 3 weeks of clothes. What are -01 or -04 rooms, the floor? Are rooms smoking and non-smoking, all smoking or all non-smoking?
  2. Running the gauntlet is what, you enter the bar to get to the stairs with your TG? And at night there is a separate entrance with a key etc.? Have you seen the penthouse suite?
  3. Is the owner a BM? Still trying to patronize same. I like the Penthouse Suite and the location shall we say is interesting. And living above saloon is very Coronation Street-like. Any pros and cons from experience?
  4. This looks like a nice place and a fair price but this Moneybookers rigamarole is as bad as PayPal but at least I have PayPal. I have no idea what the deposit would be (in ThB or $, whatever) but what ever happened to using a Visa or MC to make a hotel reservation?
  5. Well I wrote to the address on their site and then to Ib and he replied and then Da did and all was quite well done after that.
  6. No just an hour or so a day. The time difference won't allow for much real time contact anyway other than 3 or 4 a.m. or 9pm to midnight.
  7. Thanks. I use a virtual VPN and it doesn't have to be rocket fast. There is a place on Soi 6 with a huge room that looks good as well. Queen Victoria, no idea if it is noisy but for stepping for some visiting it certainly is close to Soi 6, being on Soi 6.
  8. Has someone got an e-mail for the RG? Or does the contact form work for asking a question or 2 even if not booking? I had it somewhere, the chap's name was Ib, IIRC. I need to know how good the wi-fi is in a room as i will have to work when visiting, not a lot but enough and also what they accept for payment as I prefer to use Visa for everything I can.
  9. There is a good deal on Cathay Pacific right now in F (First Class - real caviar, champagne and pajamas first class) from Toronto to Bangkok, a little over $10,000 vs. well near $18,000 though the HKG BKK is in J as they don't offer many First Class seats on that route. For a once in a lifetime experience this is a great deal and barely 20% if that over what Business Class will cost which is not too bad a way to go either.
  10. It was new in 2008 when the Lonely Planet article was first posted. It has been mentioned here many times in the 2 years (exactly to today) since then.
  11. To say nothing of issuing permits where your revenue for the transaction is $1.55. Even with low wages this has to lose money.
  12. Not pay the barfine, pay the girl for her services once an hour. Bht 1000 or whatever.
  13. The price of beer goes to Bht25,000 an hour before the giveaway starts. The giveaway ends at 4:00:02. Beer prices return to normal therafter. A fun promotion would be to pay the FL fee (whatever is normal ) once an hour, to get the FL girls to get the point and come in with an assured customer each hour.
  14. It isn't actually. If you mean STD's it is good for one (Chlamydia) , maybe two really though not the drug of choice for the 2nd.(Gonorrhea) as you need the oral suspension, not the tablets. For Chlamydia you do not need to take as much as you say, e.g. you take just one gram, once. And it is worthless against most others. The generic name is far more common in 3rd world countries, e.g Azithromycin, vs. the trade name which is spelled Zithromax. If one was trying to find a true "one drug does most" it would be doxycycline but you have to take it for a week. Prevents malaria but adds
  15. While he makes excellent points about being abandonded etc., sitting up all night I have to ask myself about the value of a safe that can be carried up the stairs by anyone (even men) as carrying it down wil be a lot easier. I prefer the type that are more or less fastened to something vs. a portable model, aka, a box of all your stuff to be easily stolen at once.
  16. I use this firm: http://medjetassist.com/ as they only specify you have to be one day as an inpatient, there does not need to be a medical reason for evacuation and they take you to where you name vs. the "next best or better" place. Obviously for a skinned knee or broken leg ( unless it is severe and needs orthopedi curgery), even an inpatient won't trigger an evac. I pay an annual fee of US$200 but they do offer expat rates for US$540. Mine covers up to 90 days out of country which is more than enough. They will fly anywhere the US is not embargoing like Cuba or Libya as long as they ca
  17. The hotel reviews are very long in the tooth and the most recent post in this forum is from a guy extolling its virtues BEFORE going there. They say they now have in room broadband and it seems to be in the sticks similarly to RG at 1/2 the price ( or the suite for the same). Minus a pool which is a drawback, are there any other reasons not to try it?
  18. A tip: go to the Pac-Safe web site to find who sells their stuff near you or online - they make a luggage/backpack safe that is a mesh of very strong wire that forms a bag shape for lack of a better way to describe it. The top of the bag, the open part has an extremely strong 1/8" aircraft cable strung through it with a locking mechanism and a lock. Comes in three sizes. Smaller ones should be laptop bag size, medium for a small backpack or carry on, large for the Lewis and Clark explorer types backpack. Ok, so you slip this mesh bag over your suitcase/laptop case etc, then cinch the open
  19. Well I now have replies from Roof Garden Inn for BHT 750/nite for the week plus BHT 1,350 for the car service and Sabai Lodge for BHT 1,850 Deluxe Poolview Room in New Building which opens in October ( I am leery of booking in non-existent hotel rooms with an opening date in the future). Opinions? Obviously some choice now without worrying about Flamingo.
  20. Thanks. I have found this map: http://www.guidetothailand.com/pattaya-tha...thbeachroad.htm Which shows all these Soi's , who could know without being there that you have Soi 1,2 3 here and then Soi 1,2 3 there - here a Soy there a Soy , etc...so it shows the Flamingo above (North??) the Day Night - scale is impossible to say but this doesn't seem too far to walk around a bit - how far would it be say to the water or to Soi Post Office? I am wondering if the gay area means that there is just a bunch of gay bars and such and bringing a TG back would be an issue or if it is just a
  21. Well, that may be if it is a good location otherwise then maybe .... they have a map here: http://www.flamingohotelthailand.com/home/index.html then the location selection on the left - this map doesn't look ANYTHING like the map I am viewing online - with Soi 17 and S. Pattaya Rd parallel and with Soi's 1,2,3 running off S. Pattaya Road - can anyone actually tell me where this is, like a hotel I can find on a map to compare location? I have sent requests to Sandy Springs, both Flippers, both Sabai's , and Roof Garden with no replies yet. Of course it is 11 at night there. Here
  22. I am looking at a first time trip to Pattaya for Christmas - struck out on the RG for a week, so I have been e-mailing for availibility elsewhere, one reply is a suite at Flamingo Hotel for BHT 2,450 a night and BHT 1,500 for car service at BKK airport when I arrive. The web site looks OK, the map shows from Soi 1 to 17 in about one inch so I am not sure where it is relative to anything - any opinions would be appreciated - they want a 2 night deposit and I am not sure how refundable that is so I don't want to commit to anything unless I am sure it is a OK deal.
  23. In Newbie Forum I had three posts (FLB in BKK? , Butterflying, and YAQ) and no only one is left and the others are gone. How come?
