Flying a drone in Pattaya......
forcebwithu replied to Al_Davis's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Found an already existing topic to post a reply to your question in. And the answer is yes, you are supposed to have insurance and register your drone to legally fly in Thailand. Many don't, but I decided to get legal. This is a C&P of a post I made last Monday (28 Oct) on another forum. Drone insurance now sorted. Took about an hour to scan, complete, sign and scan again signed copies of the following. 1. Provide a clear photo of the drone and a photograph of the drone's serial number. 2. Provide photos of remote control and serial number. 3. The drone's receipt 4. Attach a signed copy of passport. This includes the personal information page and the latest immigration stamp page. 5.Please apply for the NBTC link https://anyregis.nbtc.go.th/sign_up/foreigner/ and send your User and Password Insurance is through the broker (link) the DJI store recommended, Thai Pattana Insurance. Because my drone weighs more than 300g the cost was 790B. I also took advantage of their offer to handle the registration with NBTC and CAAT for an additional 535B, which includes the 214B NBTC registration fee. So for 321B extra they do all the registration doc prep and uploading to the respective govt websites, which is not an unreasonable fee IMHO. When I asked about damage insurance, this is the reply I received. Drone damage insurance costs an additional 3,990 and 5,990 baht, and the insurance company takes quite a long time to process. The insurance company waits for about 15-25 days, which makes the CAAT license take 30-60 days to apply for. I judged the risk of a fine for flying an unregistered drone to be greater than the risk I'm going to crash, so declined the damage insurance. -

For a different look at Pattaya, a drone's view over Lala Lake which is just off of Pattaya Tai. And a view of the lily pond next door, which would make for a more interesting vid when the lilies are in bloom. Vid seems a bit jerky during he pan which might be due to the rather windy conditions during today's flight. -

I had my drone out this morning to train myself on some of its features. One is panorama mode. All I have to do is define the area of the shot by pointing the camera gimbal at the upper left and bottom right corners of the panorama, then touch Start. The drone will do the rest, taking the necessary shots that you can then stitch together in post processing. For that I used Microsoft Image Composite Editor. Super easy and I'm quite happy with the result. The image below is best viewed by clicking on the image to view in full screen mode. -

For all the coffin dodgers that call Nikom Court their local; the longtime daytime boss Patty is celebrating her 50th b'day today. A few of us will be shuffling our way to Nikom at 15:00 to help ease Patty into old age with copious amounts of beer and SangSom. To surprise her we hung a banner in her honor this morning. Apologies for the crap pic, but the rising sun was causing a lot of glare off the banner. hope we ordered enough ice for the celebration. -

Or cannot read. If I put it in larger, colorful text, does that help. "I only ever saw them putting in storm water drains" -

Thought so as well when I first dug the pic out of the archive, but when I zoomed in on the full resolution shot I could see it's a piece of angle iron. -

I don't know the answer to that. My guess is they'll be going the tank route as I don't remember them putting in water or sewage pipes when they built up Tree Town. The pic below is from April 2022 when they concreted over the back dirt road. I only ever saw them putting in storm water drains, even when they first started construction of TT back in 2016. I had pics from back then, but unfortunately I lost my local copy of the pics when a hard drive went tits up and the other copy that existed was lost when Ben at Secrets deleted numerous topics on their forum without notice, one of which contained a huge number of photos contributed by BM's over the years. Still can't believe the knobhead did that. -

Good news. You only have to hold your pee for two more weeks until the new Tree Town bathrooms are open. I forgot to ask how much the entry fee will be. I wouldn't be surprised if they up the price from 5B to pay for the fancy new water closets. -

Bad thing about this time of year, it becomes unhealthy to breathe the air here. Expect to be reading soon how the politicos will be doing something about the air pollution, real soon now. ^^^ That's what an AQI of 129 looks like.

Popular Food Stalls Removed From LK Metro There have been a removal of multiple food stalls located near the Soi Buakhao end of LK Metro. The stalls, which had been present in the area for many years and had many regular customers, were reportedly removed for multiple reasons including at the alleged request of nearby business owners concerned that they could block the visibility of their venues. To be fair, the stalls were technically on the street and not standalone buildings, which is likely what the powers that be used to remove them after the alleged complaints. It was not immediately clear where the affected vendors would move to. Reactions on Pattaya social media groups were quick and mostly negative, with many commenters stating that they had enjoyed these stalls for many years and were a major part of their nights out on LK Metro. TPN Media notes that it was not immediately clear if the city or a different organisation had ordered the removal or who exactly had complained about them.

Another update on the state of the beach showers. No surprise, SNAFU. I had a chuckle when the helpful Thai tour guide next to the first shower monolith informed me the shower wasn't working. Once the foliage on the newly planted palm trees develops, there should be a fair amount of shade again on sections of the footpath. -

I also took pictures of Huai Chak Nok Reservoir in case I crashed and destroyed the drone. A new water park got built on the southeast side of the lake since I was last out there. -

I managed to get drone video of Huai Chak Nok Reservoir water level just before the thunderstorms rolled through this morning. With this being an average year for rainfall, and given we're a few weeks from the end of rainy season, I'm surprised the water level is as low as it is. -

This Thai food place on Bong Koch (map link) is getting close to opening. When I rode past yesterday the parking lot of the place next door was packed with cars lined up waiting to get in. The new place should do well with the spillover effect. -
