  1. The foam is water based and the rotavirus they were infected with can be picked up from water contaminated with feces. Those trucks you see driving around and filling the buckets and water tanks more often than not load up with untreated water from nearby retention ponds. My guess is the foam was made from such a water source. This screenshot is one of many such retention ponds scattered around on the darkside that you can see trucks regularly filling up at. https://www.google.co.th/maps/@12.9152224,100.9268318,188m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en&entry=ttu
  2. For those that have expressed doubts that the water used during Songkran is dirty... 65 children fall sick from Songkran foam party At least 65 children were diagnosed with rotavirus after joining a foam party celebrating the Songkran festival in Muang district. The children were taken to Chao Phraya Yommarat Hospital and other private hospitals for treatment of diarrhoea, upset stomach, high fever, vomiting and rashes. Some were discharged while others remain under care. They came down with the symptoms after joining a Songkran event at the Banana Conservation Centre in Su
  3. I was never into sun bathing, but I spent quite a few summer months on the water windsurfing for fun and competition. The my legs and shoulders are now showing the worst of the sun damage from those years. Fortunately most skin cancers if caught early are easily treatable.
  4. That's got to be quite a relief. I have a few brown splotches from sun damage that I keep a close eye on for changes. So far, all good.
  5. ^^^ Seeing the kids out and about having fun with the water brings a big smile to my face.
  6. They're trying, which is good thing, but a post this morning on PA said not all the bar owners are not on board with the water free zone.
  7. Unfortunately it appears gone are the days when the water madness pretty much ended shortly after sunset, with the exception being the 18th and 19th. Last night the madness on Buakhao was still going strong at 8pm. That's when I saw the writing in the wet pavement that it wasn't going to end so left to find a safe, dry haven at King's Club. I've always thought if a group of bar owners in one area got together and agreed to create a water free zone during the days leading up to the 19th, they would find themselves overwhelmed with customers.
  8. I think Gistda is working with faulty data. Pattaya has been at condition red with an AQI over 100 since 10am. Bangkok only city with hazardous PM2.5 levels PUBLISHED : 11 APR 2024 AT 11:20 Bangkok stood as the only city blanketed by red-coded (seriously hazardous) levels of fine dust pollution among 63 provinces battling thick smog late Thursday morning, according to the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Gistda). ...
  9. I wish the numbnuts with the high pressure PVC water guns would realize how dangerous they are. Even though the sale and use of them are supposedly banned you still see vendors walking around selling them. Photo Credit: TPN https://www.facebook.com/Thepattayanews/posts/1360892171346027
  10. I've experienced the village version of Songkran as well. Much prefer it to the madness that with the early start on Soi 7 now stretches for 11 days in Pattaya. Each year though on the 19th I venture out with a couple of good friends and enjoy one day of celebrating Songkran. The other 10 days I'll make every effort to avoid the water madness.
  11. For many, the sign on the post must mean no blue circles allowed rather than no waiting or parking.
  12. The water madness has begun on Soi 7. I wonder if the bars on Soi 7 will see an uptick in business to justify what in my experience is the earliest start ever to the water madness. As they say, forewarned is forearmed. If you want to avoid getting drenched, Soi 7 is definitely the soi to avoid. Pictures of the war zone during a cease fire this morning.
  13. ^^^ I always find it amusing when based on one person's great experience with a business, any others that report a negative experience are discounted and their reports classified as "myths". A data point of one is statistically irrelevant.
  14. With the recent reports of the 90 day online reporting system not working for some, I was wondering if after many years of using the online system I would have to do my latest report in person. Happily the system worked fine for me. I submitted my report at 07:39 and the email approval just came through at 13:09. 5.5 hours from submission to approval. I'll also mention again my experience with a new passport, exiting and re-entering Thailand, and a TM30 that hasn't been updated since I got it for my current address in 2017; the online system has worked for me every time. Never been kicked
  15. Thanks @BeerBelly for the registration cost at the inspection station. Previously I've done on my registrations at Mitiyon. Each year the cost has creeped up. My last renewal back in November was 1,000B. Quite a bit higher than what you paid at the inspection station, greedy bastards. I'll be using the inspection station from now on.
  16. On the south end of the beach, two of the new light poles the power cable is routed through the access cover. Not only that, but they stripped off the outer protective layer of insulation before the cable enters the opening. Hope nobody tries to close the access door over the unprotected wires. I'm also baffled as to why there are two power conduits poking out of sand by this light pole. They're obviously not needed for that light as it's working fine off another buried power source. And as long as I'm on a roll of critiquing the new work, the two week old new paver
  17. North end of Beach Rd music stage is ready for March traffic madness music festival.
  18. A pre constructed building is about to be dropped into place at one of the new mookata places. 79 Mookata expansion is now open for business. Won't be long before whatever this place is will open for business.
  19. Showers haven't lost their heads yet. Two of the four drains were clogged with sand though. Wonder when, if ever they'll get around to completing the second shower. It is amazing how long the simplest of projects can take here. Attention deficit disorder is rampant here.
  20. WTF, no idea why the driver of this bus thought it was a good idea to park on the footpath. 79 Mookata has only been open a few weeks and they're already expanding.
  21. It was amazing to see during the pandemic. We were in the midst of a severe drought. I could ride your bike across the middle of Mabprachan. And the authorities wasted what little water was available washing down the sois with the absurd idea they could wash away the virus.
  22. Business must be booming as it looks like 79 Mookata may be expanding. I'm guessing that as the new support pillars line up with the existing building. Quite a bit has changed at this corner over the last dozen years. From my photo archives this pic from the same position back in 2012.
