fastest upload locations (internet cafe, telco NOC, etc)?
SmellyFarang replied to SmellyFarang's topic in Expat Issues
Good point, but maybe I could get an account with a Thai ISP for uploading my data locally - then later download the data from the USA. Do you know of any options for a local ISP storage of 500GB-1TB? Preferably one with FTP access options? -
Lots of threads have talked about download speeds, but what about the fastest upload speed options in town? Say you wanted to upload ~5GB/day, or ~50GB/week from Patts... My condo will have 6Mbps ADSL downstream speed, but I suspect probably only something on the order of 512Kbps (~18MB/hr) upstream. Anyone know of places (internet cafes, telco NOC, etc) where one could access much faster upload speeds than residential internet service? Maybe someplace that provides a service like temp business office rentals, or a regional ISP that would allow you to come to their offic

Bummer. I *thought* I had enough miles to swing first class tickets for both my departing & return flights next trip. But, it turns out I can only do first class on one, then have to do economy on the other. Since I'm from the USA, it's a long flight either way. So what do you think would be the smartest way to use the first class flight: for my arrival or my return, and why?

Cool; thanks. Let's try testing that limit with some of my past Beach Road collections ...

The batch upload will certainly make life easier to post large sets of files And it will be nice not to suffer from the brutal bandwidth limits of other photo sharing sites I tried using the nifty new Gallery to repost a bunch of my pics that maxed out the photo sharing sites But... A 10 file limit batch upload limit!? Seriously!? Come on MM, live a little more dangerously and change the config to let us upload larger batches, like 25 or 50 pics at a pop. I think you'll see BMs soon posting tons of pics that were too tedious to upload one at time (or even 10 at a time).

Is 'public' limited to Members Only, or truly public where anyone (including Google, etc) can see your albums?

The vaunted "Girlfriend Experience" of high-quality, enjoyable company. : Often discussed as the high mark of any P4P encounter. But it's interesting when I think back to my experiences with "real" farang girlfriends over the years. Even if I only count the serious, multi-year live-together relationships I realize that I still fall far short of the GFE during the vast majority of my time with them. On average, with my serious farang girlfriends I had at best only "sometimes, but not often" GFE days with them. Most days it was more trouble than it was worth, with me makin

I just learned that one of my favorite publishers, Baen, is providing over 100 ebooks from their library that you can download for free in all the various formats. And these aren't no-name books - most are from some of their top authors. So if you've been considering trying out ebooks, this is a great library you can download not only to dedicated e-readers but also onto regular notebook computers as well. http://www.baen.com/library

Death of a Shopping Mall: A Rant
SmellyFarang replied to MeGoDanceNow's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Bummer. Here are some pics from when it first started to open summer of 2007. Sad to see it slide so far so fast. -
I saw a BM on another (Shhhh) board advertising his VT6 condo that you may want to check out. While it has its critics, VT6 is still my favorite condo for my trips.

Ok, after wading through all the pics the chicks post in their Match.com profiles of their cats, beaches, sunsets, etc. to communicate their "inner feelings" I posted just a single pic likewise. The result? Blacklisted! What do you think? Was it the "be a little gay" comment (but really, what modern girl isn't at least bi-curious)?

"Is Apple Hiding Consumer Reports Discussion Threads?" http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2366403,00.asp Naturally the first thing I thought when I read the above was "what's the impact on FLB Bar in Pattaya?" Then followed quickly by the hideous suspicion "Wait a minute - what if they're part of the cover up!" Sure enough, a quick search confirmed my worst fears - no mention of the negative Consumer Reports article on ANYWHERE on the board! Obviously proof-positive the mods are guilty of participating in this insidious cover-up! EDIT: Just another reminder

Zip ties to secure your bags?
SmellyFarang replied to SmellyFarang's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
The ties go in the safe... -
One of the best tips I've seen on these boards was someone recommending the use of zip ties to secure their bags. I tried it last trip, and it worked great. No, the ties won't protect your bags from being cut open (or the ties cut off), but they do provide some piece of mind against casual "browsing" by the hotel staff. Bringing a $5 bag of mixed multi-color ties lets you cut them off when you need to access something and then just recsecure it with a new tie. Yes, a crafty maid could buy her own ties to try to replace one they cut off, but the multicolor ones are probably harder to fin

Despite my vow to save all my time & cash for Pattaya, I admit that I have been getting blue-balled dating various asian chicks back here in farangland This weekend I was on a first date with a Chinese girl, and at one point she mentioned swimming in the ocean during her previous vacation to Pattaya! Once I recovered from my shock (Pattaya has a beach?), naturally we then spent the rest of the night comparing pics of our various BFs over the years there ... No, actually I made that last part up. Instead I put on my most innocent face and said "where's Pattaya"?
