  1. Good, let's keep it to airline prices. Currently I can fly to New Zealand from the UK for just over £500 with Qatar. Only problem is that I have little interest in a Doha stopover. That's why the THAI deal for £400 was excellent for more than just the price, as it allowed for a twin centre trip stopping over in Thailand. That was my original point before we got sidetracked by the economy and property prices. That you don't have access to these kind of deals, having to pay NZ$1000 for a flight to Thailand. But on the other hand it's an amazing place. So don't go away all offended.
  2. As I stated in the first place, the main issue is isolation and that it is so expensive to travel and see the world. Also, there is really no need to exaggerate, a crap home in Auckland is not one million dollars. I was there last November, so I know what things cost. If you want to compare London prices to prices in Auckland, you will soon see the difference. It may be relatively expensive, but it does not compare to London. An apartment south of the river in London is nearly double that price; http://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/42747969?search_identifier=73451d12acef89bc7ba4261fa8aa0a9f Your million dollar 'crap' home in Auckland will get you a two bedroom apartment in one of the less expensive suburbs of London. You'll need at least a million pounds to buy a house in one of the poorer suburbs and frequently a lot more. On the other hand quality food is cheaper in the UK, as are many other items. I took an apartment at The Metropolis in Courthouse Lane and travelled extensively around Auckland, so I do have a good idea of the city. New Zealand has some amazing nature and is definitely worth a visit. Don't know if I would want to live there. Anyway, let's get back to discussing bargain fares.
  3. The planes on that route are new and I'm sure the airport is no great shakes, but the saving of £300 or more could be the difference that makes a holiday affordable for someone or whether they chose to go at all. Mainly would like to go away over that period to avoid Christmas and New Year alone at home, but the cost is often prohibitive. As to luggage, sometimes you can check it through all the way and sometimes you have to check it in yourself at the second airport. Either way, it's up to the individual to decide what suits.
  4. I have no idea. I still prefer the UK. We have easy and relatively inexpensive access to the world. The perceived value of my house in Central London has risen considerably, so I could comfortably sell up and retire to New Zealand. Whereas you are somewhat a captive audience there. Not a bad place to be stuck. Though the weather is somewhat changeable. So it's not just about whether you get 32 or 55p for your dollar, is it? In that time, the value of one of my apartments has risen nine fold and that is no joke. Even I am shocked. One of the reasons for this is that they are older and more spacious one bedroom apartments, so give people a lot of leeway. So they are selling for nine times the purchase prices of twenty years ago. So which economy do you think that I prefer? Not knock new Zealand at all....apart from the awful fish and chips and the strange weather and the overly expensive food in the shops. This from Zoopla; Of course I have not included the address of the apartment. But it is the one bedroom flat in London.
  5. Always good to have a fallback. I always have one tucked away.
  6. Swiching off Voicemail is just to prevent you from being charged for International calls by accident. You don't need credit and in any case, as long as you have signal you will be able to top up abroad with a voucher * 120 * Enter 16-digit password top-up card # So just buy a voucher in Family Mart before leaving. * 120 * Enter 16-digit password top-up card # The graphic doesn't show up for some reason, so re-posted with a Jpeg.
  7. For those who enjoy travelling as opposed to just getting there, you can often pick up some decent bargains flying via European cities. For example, you can currently fly direct with THAI from Scandinavia for £320. For flights up until the end of November. Earlier in the year flying via Geneva you could pick up a super peak season flight, say from the 18/12/17 to 05-08/12/18 for £320 to £350 return. Ok, with Kuwait Airways, but comparable flights now from the UK are from £660 sharply upwards with similar airlines. So there are saving to be made for those who can be flexible.
  8. That's the price you pay for living on the edge of the world. I was there recently. Paid £400 with THAI from London to AKL. Would have been rude to turn it down. Interesting place, but shame on your for defiling British Fish & Chips. Not a single Fish & Chip shop supplied hand cut chips. In fact some prided themselves on supplying McCains frozen chips!
  9. You don't need any kind of package, data or otherwise, to receive SMS. Only to have International Roaming activated. Also switch off any voice mail service and data service before you leave. You can do so with a call to AIS to be sure. No costs will be incurred whilst Roaming for receiving SMS in the UK.

  14. Silly prices and a website with the same inaccuracies as were there a year ago. http://www.tonydisco.com/html/apartment/html/home%20new.html
  15. Words almost fail me. Are you really as stupid as you are indicating or are just having us on? You must be known to CT, because he's being incredibly polite to you considering your language. I personally think that you are thick. Before you accuse me of abuse, I think that fact has been clearly illustrated by your lack of understanding of the rules that were explained clearly to you. If you were unsure, it would have been easy to use Google for confirmation, before you came here to embarrass yourself. Dumb, dumb, dumb... Erm....weren't you all in support of chivas in post #33?
  16. For the latest information the Pattaya City Call Center 1337 can be contacted and for those who need to leave Thailand urgently can also contact 1337 and decisions on whether to accommodate requests to leave Thailand urgently will be decided case-by-case by an emergency committee which has been set up.
  17. Yes, I called those particular Israelis arseholes. Because they were arseholes. I can't say that it wasn't because they were Israeli; because at that particular time, let's say young, Israelis abroad had a particularly poor reputation. They had no idea how to show the proper respect and therefore no one had any respect for them. If you are inclined to disbelieve me; http://www.dogood.org.il/default.asp?posti...&dest_type= My view of you being a racist is taken from the content of some of you other cut & pastes posts. I won't link to them here, as this is the travel forum. You posts are not always about what you see, but are your perception, which is flawed as best.
  18. Perfect example of sub intelligence. I see Tom has put you right.
  19. What was your job at LHR? Certainly not administrative, your spelling is appalling. No wonder you had little contact with passengers. Your behaviour appears Neanderthal-like. After being a member of the board since 22-April 02 and having 3481 posts to your name, you still haven't mastered how to even use the quote function of the board. Your post was just idiotic, based on your 'heresay'....which I take with a large pinch of salt. My experience is with using Malaysia Airlines for many years with an Israeli stamp in my passport. Maybe there was another reason for your 'Australian friend' not being allowed on the flight. One thing is for sure, I wouldn't trust the word of an extremist such as yourself. I would look for a more balanced source and as such your story has been given no creedence. Since you state, why did you not confirm as to whether this was their policy?? Personally, I know that you are full of it... and you are still a racist....and not a particularly intelligent thinker. I say what I see. I hope you don't mind and all that. Those Israelis were arseholes. I witnessed their manner and can understand why they weren't allowed in.
  20. Hahaha... if you were standing in front of me you would know first hand as to whether I had a liberal mind. I'm pretty sure that I've had a LOT more travel experience than yourself and since Malaysia Airlines used to be my airline of choice, I think that I am more well placed to comment on this than yourself. More than 20 flights per year over the previous ten years, not including short haul flights. Personally, I've seen Israelis being refused entry(but they were arseholes, so it was ok). At that time Israeli travellers had a horrible reputation, but since the Israeli goverment urged them to behave themselves whilst abroad, things appear to have improved. Might be worth noting that I had an Israeli stamp in my passport too(much to my chagrin). Anyway, you are a racist. I've seen some of your other posts. I'm about as conservative as you can get without having extreme views. But you are just an extremist....but can't see it. They think their views are normal. Whilst most everyone else sees them as extreme. Rather than accept their views as extreme, they try to paint everyone to the left of their view(which happens to be almost everyone, as liberal. :) Dumb, dumb, dumb. What pray tell me, are the facts? Let see who is really "spamming an increased post count". My post had validity, as indicated in my reply. Where is yours? Ditto, Mr Sheep. I await your reasoned reply. :)
  21. Pure racist nonsense.....again.
  22. Cookies are hardly a security risk. A program such as CCleaner will be of more practical use to you than the free version of AdAware(as long as you have SpyBot and it's teaTimer installed). Ad-Aware 2008 Free Unlike SpyBot with it's Tea Timer, this free product has no Real Time Protection.
  23. Are those last two hotels in Bangkok?
  24. Now you are talking nonsense. That address is not a PO Box. Try not to be sill now.
  25. You can fix it yourself by updating the Firmware: http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4226014 You'll need the appropriate cable(cost around 250 baht). I highly recommend you back up your data on your N73 before starting. Usually I ignore these warnings but trust me, the firmware update erases ALL your data and settings that includes contacts, calendars, settings, *everything*. In essence it is like a factory restore with newer firmware.
