Hotels in the heart of the action
HILLY replied to twomp's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Guess I missed the post on Secrets but there are also a few mentions for the same places elsewhere. I plead a full brain and this is substantiated by the time I made the post. Galaxy is a good deal and offers decent rooms for the money but for under 1000 Baht????. I have seen the small rooms and still reckon that Serctets offers better value and 24/7 service with food available also. If you go for the Galaxy bigger suite it looks great but way over the guys budget. -
Hotels in the heart of the action
HILLY replied to twomp's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
The guy asked for a hotel within walking distance of the main action strip and so far everyone seems to think that everywhere but Walking Street is the location he needs. There is a hotel that you can get for under 1000 Baht right close to the main action with it's own bar on the ground floor and an Ausie member here, who can never remember what his real name is ,must be a great fan of the place as he is always promoting it and the hotel owners here as well as on other boards so it must be good. Funny but at the moment I cant remember what it is called. :Shhhhhh.!! PS. Thanks for a nice day today MM. -

RideHer Cup 2007 - programme and format
HILLY replied to doghaus's topic in RideHer Cup Planning and Discussion
Correct but you only get two on each nine.lol Then if the oposition thinks that you fluked the second drive past the ladies tee they can use a reverse muligan to make you go for the third time. Wear boxers would be my advice -

I will get this message to Callum in the next hour or so and I reckon it will be fine so dont worry. Reggie. How many sets do you need mate????? Urgent reply needed so Callum can book extra for you. I am assuming two at the moment??? -
If, just if I am wrong then I cant exactly remember the name of the bunker. It might be the fourth with Cape or was it Fowlers??? Drat they were both nasty as hell.
-
I would Guess RND (Royal North Devon) between Westward Ho and Bideford. But I might be wrong.lol If it is then that bunker does not look half as high as it does if you are stuck in it. Tell me I am wrong.lol

CATZ A GOGO - 2nd Anniversary Party
HILLY replied to Pieman's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Most of the ones I took, of the new shows on the first night, were late on so not for general viewing but here are a few more. Note to self to turn "red eye" on. -
You have to ask how a bunch of Eastern Europeans got their work permits and can dance openly in the window facing WS??? No don't bother, it is part owned by the police.
-
I would caution against late tee times after say 1pm. It gets dark around 6.15 and in the afternoon the slow Thais tend to collect making rounds difficult to finish and very long. As high season arrives this problem will get worse. Teed off at Phoenix last Friday at 1.45 and not a hope in hell of finishing. We came off with 2 holes still to play and were held up badly on the front 9. On the back 9 we skipped 1 and 2 but it was still dark by the time we got to 9.

Dont worry if Solar does not reply as he is currently away for a break with the missus who will be fucking;;;;;;;; freezing by now. Shaping up nicely though.

PHOTOS from Doggie's and Derek's b'day party at CATZ.
HILLY replied to Pieman's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
My missus got a few pics so your starter for 6 is:: Nothing to do with Doggies birthday but Wi and my missus Lat took one of Doggies Journalists wives out for the day. Doggie imported a couple of Burapha caddies for the night. Notice the huge donations for Doggies condom appeal. He stopped talking for exactly 10 seconds. We all know that when Doggie gets pissed he needs a body guard of two so The Black Watch offered to help out. Shame they were not around a couple of days before. Private Joke appreciated by only a few here. Doggie only collected enough money for 1 condom. From what I hear half of one would have been enough. -

Fucking right it was Mirky and kept seeing you scouting around the bar but never got to say hello so Hello. Top night. -
This is not going to be much help Bill but there is a shop on Sukhumvit that does good ones. It is on the left heading South between Central and North Pattaya Road on a corner. They sell retro fit or fit where the radio goes but has its own radio combined. The screen slides into and out of the radio fitting so it does not look worth nicking if anyone looks. Dont stick the other sort on the dashboard unless you are prepared to take it out any time you leave the car in an unsafe area. (That means just about anywhere not guarded by straight security). So that means anywhere as well. Mine was factory fitted in my Volvo and pops out of the top of the dash so you cant see it when parked up as it automatically closes when the ignition is off like the radio type units do also. Garmin is the only type to get or one that will run Garmin software as that is the one way ahead of the others in Asia and particularly Thailand. Now wait for the downsides. You will get a book in English that will likely have no diagrams or pictures in it. It is about an inch thick and heavy going. Some of the features on the set are not described. Searching for places ain't that easy either as everything has been translated from Thai to English using phonetics by someone who had their own idea on how to spell words and could not be bothered to look up the English translation. You will find that some hotels are miss-spelt in the software so if you don't succeed at first then add double letters where single ones should be or even change e's to i's etc. You will hate the "search for" facility using the keyboard letters that are in alphabetical order rather that querty but dont worry about that as you have to select every letter and space one at a time. It likes to put letters in that you never asked for and to get rid of them you have to virtually start all over. When you have done the above simply press find. If you miss-spelt it or the bloody speller did then it will hang for ages looking for something that does not exist before telling you nothing found. Even better is when it finds 2 thousand hits and lists them for you to scroll through for the one you want that likely wont be there. Never look for anything containing Sukhumvit as it will list a million places. Ahhh nearly forgot. When you get to the bottom of the list and want to recheck to see if you missed it the only way is to scroll from the bottom up but you have to do this anyway as the menu is at the top if you want to TRY to change the spelling. One nasty little quirk is when it says you are off route which it does every time you cannot see the sats because you just went past a high building or are in Bangkok centre. In Bangkok it is bloody useless as every time you go under a fly over or the skytrain it keeps telling you it does not know where you are. Using your mileometre when you loose the signal combined with the last instruction you can get where you want to go sometimes. Up dates come out about once a year but this does not mean that the latest roads built 2 years ago will now be showing. Around the airport dont trust it as if you go the way it wants you to go you will be using old slow roads and get stuck in congestion as the Thais wont pay tolls so use the free roads. Just another example of Thai logic here as it must be better to escape a 20 Baht toll than use 5 litres of extra gas to get where you are going. This must be the reason that the Skyway to Chonburi is always empty of traffic. You will also get the piss taken out of you by your mates who dont have one.lol. It does list most golf courses but as they are always going bust and changing their names you need to know what they were called before to find them. Take yesterday for example. We were playing at Emerald near Bang Chang but that aint in the memory as it used to be called Century Bang Chang which is. We drove straight up to the clubhouse where the others were sitting outside having libations and we unloaded the clubs ready for a caddy to take them from us. No caddies and no other fuckers around either. I went to protest at my mates libation table but apparently we had passed the bag drop on the way to the clubhouse. Can you believe that the bloody software jerks cant even put a "bag drop" position on a golf course? Scandalous in my books. Anyway they are worth having and don't let me put you off mate as 90% of the time (after understanding how to use the little fucker) it will get you where you want to go. The other 10% of the time it might find some interesting short time areas though. Have a good map as a back up though. Why not buy a unit with a built in DVD player and have the "when driving you cannot watch" function disabled. For best effect then get yourself a Thai driver and good insurance, Come on you know it makes sense. If you get one then happy to save you some time in the understanding. This post was edited by me cos I can't spell.

Rideher Cup and November Golf Programme
HILLY replied to doghaus's topic in RideHer Cup Planning and Discussion
Dont worry Hub. We will likely play C second. -
It is on Jomtien Beach Road, 30 metres after the Chaiyapruek Police Box, next to a 7-Eleven and just before Nang Nual Restaurant. A bright green and orange awning and similar coloured signage makes it easy to spot. Yorkies is pretty good but I get my bacon and sausages from Food Mart next to View Talay condos, They have the Yorkies range with execellent pork sausages and loin bacon. This saves the slog up to Jomtien.

Ricky told me Thursday as well.

I will have it imported with a certificate in January next year and then with some cold storage I can use the perfect tubers from past crops for a couple of seasons after that. It might not work and during wet months the growing method has to be changed to non ridged rows or they will likely rot off. Blight is another problem here but the chemicals are available to stave it off. Unfortunately organic growing here just ain't on and chemicals will be needed to raise a crop that might otherwise get eaten in the ground. Rotation is an absolute must as well so lets get the first crop grown successfully to see if it can be grown and sold. Why not give a local variety a try first. Buy some spuds from the supermarket and see if they will grow which would be a good start. Get them with shoots for a quick sowing and spray the leaves with a Permetherin based insecticide before ridging them up three times. Give another row a non ridged try and just keep the leaves green and pest free.As soon as they are well in flower start to lift some. Dont expect big crops from supermarket bought spuds but if it works you should get around half to one kilo from one seed potatoe. Try divinding the potatoe in two also to see if it hold in the ground or is eaten.Space at about 30 inches and let us know how it goes please with some pictures would be nice.
-
We have about 5 Rai of free land in Kolat and I am working on growing new potatoes. Have chosen French Ratte that does not mind the heat and has a beautiful taste. Another one is Runner beans that should do well here and you never see them in the shops either. You cant buy new potatoes here at all and I reckon hotels as well as expats will want them. Marketing is another problem to be overcome if it works. One thing for sure is that they will command a high price if they can be marketed properly.

Right again Jacko and this is a thing of the past as money has to be proved to have come from overseas and has to have been there for 3 months before you apply. On the second point however you can get a multi entry stamp with your retirement visa and you never need to get a permit any longer. I have not been to immigration once in the last 18 months apart from to renew my retirement visa.
-
No doctors letters required any longer Jacko and I like to go out when it suits me not them. In the last 4 months Malaysia, Indonesia (Bali) and Maldives. To hell with the home trips I am finished with the place I hope. Retirement visa took me 3 hours this year and works for me.
-
True Jacko but he still has to do a visa run every 90 days but can keep coming back all year.

OK with Bills jelly bellies I have to be there. Laced with what though? -
I have a 1 meg/512 up with Ji net through TTT. I have had this for 2 years and in that time it has only gone down very occasionally for a few hours. At 2700 Baht a month it is the best I have found. You can get faster with them but the cost is much higher. There is a newer alternative which is a wireless sytem that cost about 2500 Baht a month. It picks up from a transmitter and advertises 2 meg down. In reality it gives about 1.3 to 1,4 meg and seems pretty reliable thiose that have it tell me. It depends if you have a transmitter in range of you also but they are adding many right now. I am going to give it a try alongside my JI net cafe ADSL and if it works OK will let you know. You get a receiver on the wall and away you go. The contact details are CAT Call centre 081-3502157. What you want is the Hinet Premium.
