Canucks fans feel much lighter today after getting that Chicago monkey off their backs. Canucks vs Predators and Red Wings vs Sharks in the West. Flyers knock out the Sabres. So much for my dark horse pick. Ovie and the Caps are getting a nice rest. Two game 7's yet to be played. No surprise that Boston and Montreal are still playing, but who'd-a-thunk the Lightning would take the Pens the distance? Any chance the Sid the Kid will be wearing skates in game 7?

Yeah my Pens have looked pretty crappy. Going to game 7. I guess the Lightning weren't done. What if the Thunder won the NBA championship and the Lightning won the Stanley Cup?

As I type this the Canucks and Blackhawks are tied in the 3rd period 3-3. After game 5 they said Luongo was still their man, yet they started Schneider in game 6. Now Schneider is hurt so Luongo is back in the net. Will we see game 7??? We will have a game 7 in Philly. What an ugly series. Revolving door at goaltender for the Flyers, but they win in OT. Congrats to the Nashville Predators, who eliminated the Ducks.

Yeah the Canucks are re-living a very familiar nitemare right now. Luongo couldn't have stopped a beach ball from hitting the back of the net in game 5, and the Vancouver D practically rolled out the red carpet for Keith and Hossa. Were the Sedin brothers even in the building for games 4-5? I should give Chicago credit, they've battled back and they ARE the defending champs, but it's painful watching the Canucks self-destruct like this. So now they head back to Chicago, where the fans will be going crazy, and the Canucks don't even know who will be starting between the pipes. Can you say

Gotta love my Pens taking the double OT win on the road. Where the hell did Neal's goal come from? Little flick of the wrist from the boards. Wow. The Lightning are done, but Martin St Louis has proven again that he is one of the gutsiest players in the NHL. And Joe, I noticed they're having a sale on brooms down in Phoenix.

I'm all for it. I always thought it was unfair that those of us in the US grabbed "America" for ourselves. Canadians, Mexicans, South and Central Americans all have just as much right to use it. I'd like to stop telling people I'm from America. Unfortunately many Thais get a confused look when I tell them "I'm from the United States", or the shorter "I'm from the US". They seem to enjoy saying, "Ameh-eeka". I suppose we can thank "West Side Story" for that.

The plural form "Americas" refers to North, Central and South America, that is everything from Northern Canada and Greenland down to the tip of Argentina and Chile. It can also include the various islands nearby: Cuba, the Caribbean, the Faulklands, the Bahamas, etc. The singular form "America" is usually a shorthand reference to "the United States of America". I've never heard anyone from Canada or Mexico say they are from "America", though they might say they are from "North America" or "the America s ".

Nothing wrong with any of that. What screams US of A tacky are the hand carved walking sticks and the ice tea jar strapped around momma's fat neck. "The barbershop quartet will be singin' down at the Baptist Church." Has to be America.

Allow me to amend my opinion of the Coyotes: They CAN score, well at least Shane Doan can score. Problem is their goalie can't stop the Red Wings. Down 2-0 and very happy to be leaving Hockeytown and going back to Phoenix.

Guys on skates with sticks chasing a puck around a rink and slamming into each other is usually exciting, even when they don't score much. The Bruins and Flyers got shut out at home on Thursday. Not an auspicious beginning for their Stanley Cup hopes. Lotta nice stops by Miller and Price. Big 4 goal night in Hockeytown. The Coyote goalie did not resemble a brick wall. The Wings looked like, well, like the Wings usually do in the play-offs. Yeah, Nashville also found the back of the net 4 times and beat the Ducks! As I type this the Sharks and Kings are in OT. D

I don't know who to pick in the West. Vancouver seems a logical choice, but then again the President's Trophy winner hardly ever wins the Cup. I love the Sharks, but with their history in the play-offs they really have to show me something before I'll pick them. Detroit is too old. The Kings are too young. Phoenix can't score. Nashville? Nah. The odds of Chicago repeating are slim. I hate the Ducks, but I have to admit they have played well. Guess I'll have to be boring and pick the Canucks. The East is more interesting. Just because he refers to "some" of them as "snakes with tits" on this board doesn't mean he doesn't treat them well in reality. I've had a beer or two with Denny, and IMHO he seemed to be as respectful towards Thai bargirls as the next guy. The man starts a thread commending some Thais for helping him during his recent stay in Pattaya, and before you know it - Zoom!!! - here come the anti-BigD vultures, ready to pick at old scabs.
