You know Sailor Bar on soi 8? That used to be 2 different bars in there. Can anyone remember the other one's name? The 2 Thai female owners disliked each other and would turn up the music volume to trump the other. I'm talking maybe 95-98 - ish. The other used to have girls dancing on the bartop. That was unusual at the time. First time I ever saw that. Then Sailor took over the space.

Last time I was in there [2009] I sat down to eat my food. Bought a beer and had a look around. Another shell of its former self. And not 1 girl [no exaggeration] I'd have taken. And I'm happy with homely types. I was spoken for so it didn't matter but, yes, you'd be hardpressed.

And you can see Chang 1 and 2 although I remember them being closer together. I think Chang 2 moved within the complex. Great days. Great place to sit that complex. Girls in front bars eg Bunny Bar would try and drag you in. Once I saw a tourist couple go past and 1 BG grabbed the guy. His wife went spare threatening to hit the BG. Thai food was on sale at left hand front side. The toilets were a long walk over to the right and back.

They had 2 main BJ girls. I remember one was called Som. I can picture the other but not remember her name. I did a review of the place once and told Som I'd keep her name out, "No give my name. I want farang come. I want money" This was pre internet forum days.

Chang bar - in the now gone complex on beach rd/soi 9 [next to police stn] . did most of the very nice staff. ran by a german [?]. He appeared to be drinking heavy towards then end as he'd turn up at 4-5pm tanked up on his bike. Next time he had a pad on his head [motorbike accident?]. I recall Chang 2 opening in same complex and never taking off and Chang 1 going downhill and then both were shut next visit. Bunny Bar - same complex. Must've done dozens from there. Wanker boss. Beautiful girls. I took a BG fro there many times. She just disappeared one day. Neither her family or friends kn

I'd say it gets a gentle thumbs up, overall, on that site. I have an interest in applied linguistics and have just spent enough time -far more than i intended - looking over his method and i'm pleasantly surprised. it's basically he way i'd have done it. read the q & a session. all based on common sense. i've registered for his newsletter. don't know/doubt i'll buy. i'm not really a thai learner. if you read my previous posts on the subject of learning languages i've said many times that TPRS is the best system out there imho. this guys method is v similar to TPRS. i may even email him to

yep. there were no chks being done on the flight to NE African country with a Mohammedan population the time i was checked. i know as i passed the gate. bet there's never any checks on the flights to Indonesia either. in fact indonesia to thailand is probably the safest bet NOT to gets stopped. longer and pricier though. pissed me off as it was my first holiday in ages and i was working 2 jobs [still am] but get the third degree [whilst non english walk thru unchecked]

that requires too much work. it's easy to set up shop for the day at heathrow and stop people who are basically sitting ducks. They do the same now and then with traffic police. They DWP, for example, will be there roadside. Police pull over taxi drivers and when they run chk DWP run benefit chk at same time. If bloke is working - claiming they arrest him. Police get easy stat and no knife wielding involved].
-
as I said on a previous post, not last year one before they were stopping people at heathrow. mine was a terrorist act check which in reality i believe was a general criminal check. they wanted details of my local cop shop, for example. others stopped earlier that year said they had computer link ups and were checking for outstanding court fines, for instance. mine just radioed in my details. meanwhile the real terrorists slip in and out with no problem. [edit: oh and the DWP were at boarding point same year running computer checks to see if you are on benefit] [edit x 2; to OP .

and my sky top room had a breakfast bar. but it hadn't been planed/smoothed down. So the wood was rough. and it hadn't been covered [eg formica ] or even varnished. so why include one. most people wouldn't expect it. it just looked terrible. and i've stayed in 60b rooms when there was 75b t the £. I only expect clean and safe at the lower end. at 600b or whatever i paid i'd like water bottles not breakfast bar and microwave.

what year was the yellow board? i've never heard of it. i remember bahtbus. i remember penhball. and i remember 2 delphi boards: nanplaza and one by a swiss guy called the Joker. I didn't get a net connection f/t until about 1993 and it was the Delphi boards i was first on.

i take it sky top hasn't moved since i stayed there a few yrs back and it was in the row near the old police station next to the bar complex. the bar complex was as loud as feck. and only a few bars were open as the complex was run/ning down. they just happened to be closest ones to the hotel. honest i got no sleep some nights until the bars shut. even the bright neon lights would enter the room. it was like trying to sleep on a beer bartop. In fact one of the thai run bars there would stay open now and again til 7am or later. no music just thai men shouting and motorbikes. as someone said, ev

That was closed last time I was there [20 months ago]. I take it it's re-opened?

volume is fine. don't turn it up. i can hear my TG and unlike in some places where I can't even think straight. i've never been keen on the screens with music videos though. distracting. and the music choice is too AOR/narrow for me. -

the first one i remember that was most popular was by johnny boy. all i remember is he was going on about loy talay (or similar); the there was loso's mae bai pantip which was no.1 all over pattaya one year; the one i've mentioned before and am STILL trying to get unsuccessfully despite many BM's help is Where are You by DJ Paffendorf. There must be literally dozens of versions and mixes of this song. most are crap techno bollox. I want the one played in pattaya bars. it's more of a rock edit. someone said it's called the radio edit but i got that and it's not. i had about 12 versions at one -

I actually bought that so I should have known. I liked the accordian sound. BG's liked it for the words "you promised me" repeated a million times. There's a remix by benny b on the other side.
