Ha Long Bay. Dont let the guides or brochures fool you into believing its only a 2 hour journey from Hanoi, it is actually a 4 hour drive each way. I let the owner of the hotel i was staying in Hanoi talk me into a 2 day/1 night stay in Ha Long Bay, and after this trip, i was really glad that i allowed him to do this. I ended up booking with Legacy cruises, with a cost of $130 per person, but seeing as i was travelling alone, i had to pay an extra $30 single supp charge. Now, it might seem expensive, but honestly, this had to of been the best £100 i have ever spent on any holiday anywhere. Great little rooms on the boat, and very well fed from start to finish of the trip. The crew even catering to my seafood allergy with extra chicken and pork at every meal time. A very highly recommended 2 day trip, i cant praise the crew and the boat enough. Photos taken by myself early June 2014. Lots and lots of photos on this thread, and still not enough to do this place justice to its beauty. My boat for the next 2 days........ Our tour guide/rep, kevin....... My room.......... So many tour boats in this area considering that it is low season here..........

Hoa Lo Prison/Maison Centrale, was effectionally known as the "The Hanoi Hilton" by the flyers and aircrew that were unlucky enough to be shot down over North Vietnam. Its a fantastic little place to visit, and should be high on your list of places to visit. But, as i found in quite a few places around Vietnam, it has some of the best propaganda to be found anywhere in the world. Well worth the entrance fee and an hour or so of your time. the site first seen as the downed pilots entered the "Hilton" back in the 60/70's..... The original front gate doors....... The new and the old. Skyscraper thats now been built on the grounds of the former prison........ Now, we all know about this place through history lessons etc, but this is some of the best propaganda you will ever read or see, anywhere!!!!........... Jon McCain's flight suit, parachute and helmet..........

Huu Tiep Lake,The iconic B52 lake, where the wreckage of a B52 now lay. There is not really too much to see here, but according to my guide/moto driver/stalker/know-it-all, back in the 70's, this lake was a damn sight lot bigger than it is now, and the main body of this '52, is actually under some of the houses to the right of the wreckage. If true or not, who knows, but i had no reason not to believe him. This lake was one of the places that was on my list of places to visit, and in a way, im glad i made it here to see this.

Those first 2 photos are actually the view from my balcony. I stayed in the "old town" area, and its all very much the same as this. More photos to follow soon, and a shed load of war photos too! -
I loved this guy, but in a different movie, Daniel Stern

Hanoi. The one thing that surprised me was that there were so many trees everywhere. Every road you went down had trees, and it makes for a nice site, when you compare it to LoS.

I love a good bit of military history, so this museum was one of the many that i wanted to visit. The B52 museum is located on Doi Can, in the Ba Dinh district of Hanoi. A very cheap taxi ride from basically any hotel you might think about staying in. As seems to be the case all over Vietnam, museums are closed on Fridays and Mondays, and never quite seem to open on time on any other days either, so its always hit and miss if its open. On this visit, it was a friday, so i couldnt get inside the museum, but they didnt mind me wandering around their grounds taking photos. This place is back on my list of places to visit on my next rip to 'Nam. Either a Canadian or US documentry crew were filming whilst i was there.......

That's a very pretty looking B787.

If your ticket is already booked as one journey, ie America-UK-Europe, then you should just need to go to the transfer desk in each terminal after you land(do not leave the airside area), and usually there is a bus service that runs on the airside area between terminals, which is actually quite often, so you shouldn't have any problems. If you have to land, go landslide and re-check in again for your next flight, then it's fair to say you will REALLY be pushing it for time with only 2.5 hours between flights.

I took this photo on my flight out Vietnam 12 days ago. This is the LHR to DXB leg on the A380. Every single person had a row to themselves to spread out on. If economy had been 40% full! I would be very surprised!!!

Depends how you long at it really. Your on holiday, fancy seeing a movie so put on the card 200/300/400/500 baht, then proceed to see the film. You don't go back to see another movie on that trip, and your next trip is not for over another year, in which time the money on the card has expired(someone mentioned 1 year validity), and now all your remaining money has gone!! But gone where? You can bet your ass that it's not been donated to some charity or other, but into the coffers on the cinema! Now, that's called a scam in any language in any part of the world!
