  1. It takes the Pacific route. I would think because of wind patterns it would be quicker to fly to Singapore via the Atlantic and return via the Pacific. My guess is there's some political/business reason to fly both ways over the Pacific.
  2. Sing Premium Economy is great. I took the reverse flight, from Singapore to Newark and wished the flight was longer so I could watch more movies! They have 60 movies on demand, you can watch em anytime you want plus old TV shows. You can also play chess and other games. Best food I've ever had on an airline. I manged to snag a bulkhead seat but a guy at the stand up bar said even his middle seat was very comfortable.
  3. Heading from LaGuardia to JFK at time of the morning should take no more than about twenty minutes by cab (from JFK to LaGurdia would take longer in the morning). However, what happens if your flight from Indy is delayed? Would you have to rebook at a higher last-minute rate?
  4. Singapore Airlines non stop to Newark, Coach (Premium Economy) is seven across with LOTS of legroom. Highly recommended. You can use your Star Alliance miles.
  5. If the plane is configured properly, 16 hours is not a big deal. Singapore Air's 18 hour non-stop has plenty of legroom, great food and 60 movies on demand. I suspect Thai Airways will try to pack in more customers.
  6. If interested in sharing a ride, please let me know.
  7. Just jokin with you BigD. seriously thanks for turning me on to Alex, excellent service at a fair price. I'll try Emil's service once and if not happy go back to Alex. But may heed Ting Tong's warning and say I'm staying at the hotel right next to my hotel.
  8. All this time I've been using Alex (no complaints). My reasoning was that if BigD reccomended, I don't need to look anywhere for a better price. BigD, your reputaion as a Cheap Charlie is in jeapordy! I'm looking for value. That means a safe driver and safe car at the right price. I don't need fancy. Think I'll give Emil's service a try.
  9. Do they drive like maniacs? I know TIT but it pisses me off if they don't drive safely.
  10. And getting some extra double miles flying via the Windy City! When redeeming your free flight consider adding on the PI or Bali, still only 60K miles!
  11. United gave me a 100% refund with a doctors note. Without the doctor's note I would have recieved a full refund minus 150 bucks on my "non-refunadble" ticket. Priceline gave me a full hotel refund minus 25 bucks a night but they don't publicize this. Normally I would have secured a hotel room with a credit card since so many Thailand hotels will take a reservation without one, but the ShangriLa at 55 bucks a night was too good to pass up.
  12. Think you're quite fortunate to get your money back. Even just losing 500 baht is not a bad deal.
  13. IMO a very poor schedule. Would like to see the flights 12 hours earlier (or later same same).
  14. Ah that's why girls get pissed if we leave the toilet seat up!
  15. I would prefer if Christmas decorations go up no earlier than the day after Thanksgiving. The over-comercialization of Christmas bothers me especially diamond commericals which imply that giving stupid expensive jewelry is a sign of love.
  16. Koenig caters to a German clientele. Actually I find it easier to understand Germans (speaking English) than Brits or Aussies. Thing about the Koenig is that the only thing cheap about it is the price. I stayed in the smallest room and it's huge. At 600 baht it's not in the supercheap category but I'm as happy there as in a 2000 baht place.
  17. below is a link to their website. stayed there last year between Xmas and New Year's but my guess is that they're probably booked up already this year. it's not the best location but only a brisk 10 minute walk to the FLB Bar; toughest part of the walk is crossing Phratamnak road (2nd Road). http://www.hotelkoenig.com/e-index.htm
  18. Any nominations for the best cheap hotel? I'll define cheap as being around 500 baht. I'll nominate the Koenig. They have huge spotlessly clean rooms for only 600 baht even in peak season. Friendly management and swiming pool is a plus.
  19. Is the Super Bowl on live in our hotel rooms?
  20. Cheap Charlie Business Class.....LOL Wonder if an airline let's people buy up a whole row, that'd be cheaper than First Class?
  21. I've been lucky and have had some interesting people sitting next to me on long flights but let's face it the real coup is having all 4 seats in the middle of the plane to yourself. Not shabby either is getting 3 seats to yourself in the back of the plane but I'm a tall guy and prefer four. First step,is to find out how full the plane is. If full an emergency exit or bulkhead aisle seat is best for me. But if empty you have a reasonable chance of getting the four across using the following strategy: Try to get an aisle seat in a four seat interior row that has no one else tickected
  22. My return in Feb is Spore to Newark. Is exeutive economy the same as economy? Any cheap seats with extra legroom such as a bulkhead? Any ideas to score a seat that will have a vacancy next to it?
  23. From America the cancellation fee on China Air is 100 bucks. On United (form USA)it's 150 but even that is waived if your doctor sends a note on his letterhead.
  24. don't know since i'm not from LA. but figured i'd pass this on to the bros in Cali. i've found their website blows and you're best off caling on the phone.
  25. Think you book to Tapei but don't actually have to stay over and 50 bucks more gets you to BKK and they give you two nights free in a hotel (probably not the Nana). Details below. B.
