  1. 2200 baht a month or 150 a night is not bad especially if you're using the place for storage or as a base of operations while travelling elsewhere. I recall another thread where some guy rents a place even cheaper mostly to store his golf clubs. If a few guys shared the room for storage it'd be a real bargain.
  2. Hey BigDan, I took a few trips there and it was a real treat for the bargirls. I agree with Hub; Hat Saikaew is your safest best. The nicest and most expensive place on that beach is Saikaew Beach Resort. All the otehr place including Saikaew Villa will be approx 1000 baht. You can book a minivan from Pattaya for 150 baht each or book a taxi fro 800 baht total. Don't buy a ferry ticket from the travel agent in Pattaya for 50 baht as that is only good for the ferry that goes to Vongdong beach where the Malibu that Hub mentioned is. Instead buy the ferry ticket at the ferry.
  3. Be it Northworst or United, the FA's have attitudes. It's a result of the union and seniority. Some foriegn airline, I forget which, had an ad campaign where the FA is smiling at a guy and the slogan is something like "we can read your mind" or "we know what you want". Damn right, I want to fuck her brains out! But even though it's really nice to be served by pretty young things, price and schedule are far more important to me. And if possible I'm trying to fly United and China Air so as to not spread around my FF miles too much. Now if the FLB hostesses were FA's and lavatory
  4. If staying at the Sabai Lodge or Inn, the nearby Welkom Inn has great food, a great beergarden and some hot shortime girls. Also a nice place for breakfast is 100 baht all you can eat with all the coffee you can drink overlooking the beach on Soi 2 and Beach road.
  5. Re the October changes, it appears the free ticket wording has changed from Tapei to the USA to the much better Asia to USA. Is my interpertation correct? It seems that they'll be adjusting our mileage balances by 50% on Sept 30? Strange wording.
  6. Thanks for the input guys. Good point that the miles are useless if they're not available on the dates you want. It would be a waste fo those of us who work Mon-Fri to fly from Norway or the USA on a Monday for example. Using the miles on Delta is simply a fallback option if I were to marry an American girl and my LOS activities ended. I'll duck while you throw eggs and tomatos! Do you guys think it's more important to upgrade on the flight over or the return flight? My first instinct is that I'd appreciate it more on the return flight. Jet lag is not a problem for me arrivin
  7. This September will be my third trip on China Air (also have two on United) from NYC. A few questions for you guys that know the lowdown on China Air. Was figuring I'd eventually get a free flight but looking at their program it appears that 100K miles only gets me to Tapei and that I'd need another 35K to get me from Tapei to BKK. That makes using 20K for an upgrade more desirable. The upgrade would be from New York to Tapei. I can deal with flying steerage from Tapei to BKK. What's dynasty class like? Is it more like first class or coach? Much more legroom than a bulkhead se
  8. Hey Tric, Grand Inn is on Soi 3 in Bangkok.
  9. Good chance 55 bucks will get you the ShangriLa if you include the Riverside-Silom district. All reports indicate that the place is guest friendly.
  10. I'm a Grand Inn fan too. I always paid 990 plus a surcharge for a grand total of 1030 for their standard rooms. These rooms are very quiet and there is a terrace but it's only good for a smoke, not a place to hang out. I like staying there on the last night of my trip cause I tip the bellman to knock on my door if I'm not down at a certain time to catch my flight. But the desk is efficent and I never missed a wake up call. No pool.
  11. I just booked from JFK for the Friday night before Labor Day for $879 on China Air. I could have booked for $818 on United but will have 12 extra hours in the LOS this way. It's a one week trip so every second counts! China Air has a shitty website and drunk pilots but friendly flight attendents!
  12. Hey Pie, If price is immaterial check out the Rabbit Resort. It's right on the beach, not across a busy street from the Beach. Downside is that it's a five minute walk (400 meters) from the corner where the baht busses run. Especially good if you're with one girl instead of butterflying. http://www.rabbitresort.com For me, price is important; it's too expensive for me.
  13. I was thinking of giving away the room if Priceline was uncooperative since supposedly the reservation is in my name for two people. As you say I'd be dealing directly with the hotel and it's actually easier to deal with a world class hotel than a shithole. And everyone says the Shang i sguest friendly. Turns out Priceline is willing to refund my money minus a 25 buck cancellation fee per night for a total fee of 75 bucks if they can verify with my doctor. I'm working on having no fee charged. Those cocksuckers make out better getting 25 and not paying the Shang than by getting 55 and
  14. I've always found Alex reliable and will continue to book with him till there's a problem. Alex has always been there personally and been on time and drives safe and knows his way around and is a pleasnt fellow who speaks good English. I figure if Alex doesn't show, so what, I'll hop in a cab. Then next time I'll try the service that is 400 baht cheaper. I figure if BigD recomends a service I don't have to bother researching for cheaper alternatives!
  15. Just got off the phone with United. Turns out I can cancel for any reason and only lose 150 bucks. But if I send a doctors note I can get all my money back.
  16. i don't have travel insurance except if my credit card somehow has it. this is the first time i've been overnight in a hospital since i was eight years old. luckily i'm only talking about 200 bucks here. what sucks is i accept i cant cancel but if i cant cancel i should at least be able to transfer my room. i would have little trouble getting rid of one of the best hotels in asia for three nights for a grand total of 200.
  17. If you've never stayed at the hotel before and it's low season, I'd book the first two nights only. Another reason to consider not booking one hotel for you rentire trip is that you may wish to avoid a clingy bargirl or psycho bargirl. Or you may fall in love and want to bring her to Ko Samet. When I lock myself in I ususlly regret it. Got a trully fantastic deal thru Priceline but now have to cancle my trip and prob not get money back.
  18. Have to cancel my trip for medical reasons. Booked a non-refundable ticket with United but have the impression I'll only lose 150 bucks if I cancel. Anyone have any experience with cancelling a non-refunadable for medical reasons and getting all their money back? Thanks
  19. Was able to get the Shangri-La for 55 bucks through Priceline but will have to cancel my trip due to medical reasons. I know that Priceline is usualluy non-refunable and non-transferable but anyone have experience with cancellation due to medical reasons? Anyone have a US Priceline number where I can speak with a real human being? Thanks guys!
  20. There are some beer bars in Jomtien. Soi Whitehouse may your best bet. I'm not sure if Jomtien is much more swimable than Pattaya. If you find a girl you want to spend a few days with consider bringing her to Ko Samet. The girls like it!
  21. Interesting Ko Chang website: http://www.iamkohchang.com/ The guy who runs it can give advice and book lodging for you. I emailed him and he seems like an OK guy.
  22. I was planning to go to Ko Chang and stay at Chai-chet Bungalows too but then decided to do Ko Samet instead. For what it's worth a Thai girl I met on face-pic but not in person raved about Chai-chet. Not a girl looking for an old farang but rather a Thai professional who wrote almost perfect English looking for a young guy for love.
  23. I think I may have taken stupid pills this morning cause I can't get the hang of discovery pass. You buy coupons which gets you flights? Just don't understand? ??? Since I prob will fly from Bangkok-Chang Mai-Phuket-Samui-Utapao this is prob a good deal for me.
  24. Very strange getting no resonse from Welkom Inn. More than any other place in Pattaya their room quality varies greatly and the better rooms are only a couple of hundred baht more expensive. The nicest room is the Welkom Suite aka VIP01. However some prefer VIP1 which has a balcony overlooking the beergarden where the shorttime girls hang out. VIP2 also has a balcony but a a rather poor view. Rooms 39,40,41 by the pool have nice tile floors instead of the musty carpets in poolside rooms 36,37, 38. Lot of charm in the common areas and the food is excellent. If you stay at
  25. Just got the ShangriLa for 55 plus taxes and fees. Seems the trick is not to stay on Saturday. Also suggest you bring your own girl from Pattaya cause there could be an unpleasant surprise such as no joiners allowed at any price. Not the type of converstaion that goes on at bidding for travel though. The way I figure it is if your travelling with your girl you don't need to be near Nana and even though I'm a borderline Cheap Charlie, I'm willing to spring for great value. So one of the best hotels in Asia is not much more than double the price of the Nana. I'm not a 5 star
