I've made no secret of the fact that I haven't been to Pattaya for nearly two years now. You are there and I am not. I hear what you say regarding increase in prices and I believe what you say, however it still seems expensive to me. Five Tour Buses indicates to me that it might well be so. I've never been a Foodie especially a lover of sea food but I imagine a couple of fish, five crabs, a couple of plates of Prawns and some soup ingredients could be had elsewhere for far less than 2800 Baht. I'm sure you know of such places? Where do normal Thais eat simple food like that in simple places like that and how much does it cost?

Not doubting the quality of the food nor the service or ambience but 2800 for five seems rather expensive to me. Remember where you are.

Actually, on the subject of 'Stones' I was in the Philippines, in Samar in the middle of nowhere (about two hours on a small boat from Tacloban which was devastated in the recent Typhoon). The right side of my face swelled up like I had been in a boxing bout and it was like that for about a week before my GF persuaded me to see a Quack. I thought it might have been a Cockroach bit me while I was sleeping or maybe a monster mozzie. Even one of those Geckos. Bought some gas and paid one of the local bods to take me in his boat to the nearest 'Clinic.' The Doctor (bigggg boobs) had a look inside my mouth and felt my cheek and told me I had a stone passing through a duct in my face and just to let nature take it's course. If my face was still swollen after 10 days to go to a hospital and get it treated. So I paid her the 200 Peso fee, thanked her and went back to the Squat, thinking the whole exercise was a waste of time and that I had indeed been bitten by a cockroach while I slept. Sure enough, about a week later, I was munching on some fruit and I felt a stone between my teeth when I clenched them together. First thought was oh fuck, A tooth filling has fallen out, now I need a Dentist as well. Spat the bugger out into the palm of my hand and there was a Yellow coloured 'Stone' about the size of a match head. I put it down on a table top and crushed it with my thumb. It disintegrated into a powder but it was quite resistant to pressure. So there you go... another couple of mins of your life wasted reading this!

My second heart attack, I got transferred from PIH to BHP, I think I stayed in the private recovery room for two days as a prisoner while the hospital and my insurance company were negotiating the final bill. The room at the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya was luxurious compared to my guesthouse room in Soi LK Metro but I wanted out of there. Only Buddha knows how much the hospital were billing the insurance company for the room. Total rip off. I paid cash just to get the fuck out of there because at one stage it looked like I would be held under siege with no end date and the possibility of me having to pay for everything. As it was, I needed to pay @ £5,000 cash just to leave and go recover in my 700 Baht/Night guest house with sexy nurse. Total bill was @ £14,000. I got most of my money back in the end (several months later) but antbody reading this drivel, take heed... Never travel without insurance and don't expect the insurance company to bail you out. Make sure you have cash funds available for your UNEXPECTED problems, Hospital, Police, Scam, etcetera.

I was in Billabong one afternoon having a fry up for breakfast and there was an Aussie chatting to some other Dude, I think they were both staying at Billabong. He was saying how he had been treated in hospital for a heart attack and his life was on hold while Family back home tried to sell his house to raise cash to pay for his hospital bill. Having been through the exact same scenario only weeks before, I was wondering how he managed to leave the hospital without settling his bill. I wasn't party to the conversation but couldn't help but overhear what was being said because we were the only three in the bar on a quiet afternoon. He had no insurance and no cash funds yet he was 'apparently' allowed to leave the hospital without paying in full. I'm sitting there eating my full English breakfast wondering to myself if he's trying to scam the other guy or if he did in fact manage to find a way to leave the hospital on a promise that he would some how pay. I'm wondering if the hospital called the cops and they confiscated his passport until he paid up? The first time I had a heart attack in Pattaya I had travel insurance and I was treated first and asked to pay when I was out of intensive care and recovering in a private room. I gave them my insurance details and expected the insurance company to deal with the hospital directly and settle the bill. Big mistake on my part! The insurance company didn't want to pay, nor did I. I unplugged myself from all the wires and tubes, got dressed and attempted to leave the hospital. The Cops were there in less than five minutes. You pay or you come with us. I paid! I was lucky I had available funds to settle the bill otherwise I would have been carted off by the cops. How did this Aussie guy manage to get his freedom? Did he go through the mill at the cop shop/Immigration detention centre or was he just trying to scam this other guy in the bar? There must be thousands of travellers to LOS that don't have the cash to pay their hospital bills. How do they resolve the problem? Anybody here had this predicament?
