  1. Perhaps once every 20 to 30 times I start up my PC the desktop display changes and omits part of the picture and several desk top icons including the task bar with the start button on. I then have to switch the computer off and start it again which cures the problem. I am not very PC savvy but it as though it is displaying the desktop in different size pixels to which it usually does, is it a graphic card problem, something simple or just one of those things that you get with computers? TIA
  2. Eva have cancelled Mondays and Tuesdays flights on the TPE-BKK-LHR route, I expect because of the ash cloud. For passengers booked on Mondays LHR-BKK flight would BR pay for two nights hotel stay near LHR until the next flight? If so one would need to be in the same hotel as the BR cabin crew.
  3. I fancy watching Man Utd v Chelsea today on my computer rather than going down the pub, or else i'll be knackered for tonight. What sites are any good for free premier league football? TIA
  4. Kev You'll have to be on the ball for your Xmas trip, the airlines usually shag you left, right and centre with their air fares at that time of the year. If they don't get you with the outbound flight, they'll stuff you with the return one.
  5. farman When you have some time, go back a year or so on this section, you will find out enough info to get you started. Whilst most BMs go to Pats for a good time, many have different choices of accomodation. There are only a few hotels in Pattaya that are not girl friendly, the Montien for one.
  6. aras I have never stayed there but I understand that the rooms are a bit old in decor, but probably clean. There is a sign behind the bar, "No lady men allowed in the rooms" that made me laugh. Good location, many farang bars nearby, book into the Rising sun and if you are not happy look for somewhere else, the bar owners close by will give you some good info.
  7. I have just done a LHR-BKK round trip with Eva, the food outbound wasn't so good as before, no desert or fruit but a shortbread biscuit and a bit of cheese with a biscuit. AA are now the handling agents for BR at LHR so that may be a reason. The food on the inbound flight was fine, including fresh fruit and a yoghurt. A sandwich was also given out between meals, the flight was a long one of 13 hours, I agree that the wine doesn't look too clever. I have a theory that Eva don't go around giving booze out easily so the Farang pax don't get Mao mak mak
  8. I may try and find a good quality/reasonable price dentist for a check up etc this trip. I have been going to the same practice in the UK for 50 years until last March(08) and have not been to a dentist since, just use Listerine. Obviously the prime reason for giving up on my dentist is the price, I have to pay £60+ pa for 2 check ups and I got hit for my first £30 plus another £50 for about two minutes work replacing a filling, total £80 for about 5 mins. My teeth feel OK but a check up at LOS prices won't do any harm, may save later probs in the UK. In later life I don't want a TG to
  9. On the HRS web site find City Lodge 19 and input your dates, it then shows the rates for each night and alongside it states extra discount for over 60s. Not sure about the wifi but yes to all the other answers, the girl has to leave her id, and I think reception may ring the room to check everything is OK before giving her the id back. When I stayed there before it was in a deluxe room which was fine, just a little noisy from Tuk Tuks
  10. If you are staying in Bangkok and you are over 60 check out hrs.com City Lodge Soi19 is right next to Asoke sky train and Sukhumvit underground, close to Soi Cowboy and part of the amari group. I have stayed there before and it is OK, not brilliant but OK. My reservation has just been made at 878 baht per night, I consider that excellent for the Big Mango.
  11. As spider says, try the Tikka centre opposite Soi Tilac. I have been a few times, cheap and cheerful, don't expect good quality furnishings or Indian music, but the main thing is the food is good, and cheap
  12. It seems like a good idea to me, in line with most international airports. At least you will be able to have a drink of water or whatever whilst waiting to board the aircraft, even take it on board with you while you are waiting to be sprayed by insect repellent.

My mate sent me this, A Woman was out golfing one day when she hit the ball into the woods. She went into the woods to look for it and found a frog in a trap. The frog said to her, 'If you release me from this trap, I will grant you three wishes.' The woman freed the frog, and the frog said, 'Thank you, but I failed to mention that there was a condition to your wishes. Whatever you wish for, your husband will get times ten!' The woman said, 'That's okay.' For her first wish, she wanted to be the most beautiful woman in the world. The frog w
  14. dazzjones You have to be very careful not to have a room near to the bars, thai girls can get very jealous, such as if you have taken one from a bar near to your hotel, then you come back to your room with other girls. Transport is very cheap and plentiful, stay just off the beaten track. Sandy springs is a good location, a quiet soi and a short walk for the baht buses depending which way you want to go. A nice cheap bar at the end of the soi, Wonderful bar, just drink there but not take lady.
  15. The Eva Air web site has several new promotions, one very intersting one for UK BMs is, LHR-BKK-LHR in Elite Class, £568 inc taxes. Must book before 17 July, valid 11 August to 09 December, no FF miles. Premium Laurel is £1098. No good for me as I have already booked.
  16. Checking out the Eva air web site, the London route has the 777 until late March 2010 when it reverts back to the 747. If you are travelling Elite class it is worth checking out the seat layout of the 777 to find the best seats. matt Thanks for the info about netflights.
  17. For my flight in November on BR067 and 068 WestEast quoted £462 economy and £827 elite, with FF miles. I e-mailed OURS travel and their prices were £531 economy and £836 Elite, again with FF miles. I was in Wetherspoons yesterday evening and OURS rang me, I told them their fare was £70 too much. Now I have had an e-mail from OURS stating they have found a cheaper fare, £461 inc tax and FF miles. Maybe it is the conspiracy theorist in me but I don't think that OURS would have done anything if I hadn't have told them their fare was too high. I am very near having enough miles for a fre
  18. It looks like Beaver Air have had an about turn with their aircraft on BR067 and 68, these flights are now showing 777 until Christmas at least. If they do fly the 777 that will mean less seats than the 747, probably higher prices over the holiday period, get it booked guys.
  19. Treat yourself to a one night stopover in Singers and get booked into Raffles and knock back a Singapore sling or two.
  20. I think that Eva Elite class fares are probably better value from the USA than London, on the LHR route Elite seems about 50% more than economy. During last Decembers yellow shirt protests I got a free upgrade to Elite and I found it to be better than I expected, but not to pay 50% more though. The BR 067 and 068 change from the current 777 to the 747 on October 1st for the winter season. All being well I will travel out about 17th November, one thing when checking flight internet sites is quite often the flight class is not shown, this is important for me as I collect FF miles with Be
  21. Thanks guys. FWIW I bought the monitor before I bought my new PC (PC about 2 years old), I got it from a computer fair several years ago, it's about 19" and massive. I feel that i have been missing out on a bit of quality by keeping my old monitor. DVDs are not really my thing on a PC, I still have the old VHS tapes for my TV As another thing which may be linked to the monitor, I have Windows XP SP2 genuine, but when I try to install SP3 it all goes tits up, it is really annoying as I have tried several times to download and install SP3 and it crashes on install. I think that one of t
  22. Hi Guys I have an old CRT monitor thats OK, but I am thinking of buying a 19" TFT monitor. Now looking on ebay etc it looks like there are 2 kinds of monitors, 4:3 or 16:9, I don't know what these figures mean so i am now confused I use my monitor for 95% internet and 5% photos, I believe images will look a lot better on TFT. There is no desire for me to have say 2 pages of MS Word on the screen at the same time, I do not use my PC for work. Any tips most welcome, TIA
  23. Thanks a lot guys, great help again from BMs, even the boss himself
  24. Whilst surfing the WWW I understandably attract tracking cookies. Do they all need deleting or just the ones you do not use day to day. As I understand it if you delete the cookie you have to sign in with user name and password for the next visit to the site. I have Pest patrol, Webroot spy sweeper, cache Cleaner, I was wondering if it is OK to leave the cookies on the PC? I think my webroot spy sweeper quarantines them without deleting them. TIA
  25. Excellent Piccies Adam, thanks for the memory of The Cherry Bar, so near yet so far
