Thai cancelling some LHR flights in June. Please be advised that THAI is cancelling the following flights TG917/916 on the 5,6,7,12,13 and 21st June 2018.

I thought that I read some time ago that with Emirates being Middle East based a lot of the shifts were early morning/late night starts etc. Airline pilots are used to unsocial hours but EK's are worse than most.

Could it have been a Thunderstorm at BKK?

Sometimes it is possible to do a quicker than usual turnaround at LHR, it happened to me one time and we left about 2345hrs, I was looking out of the the window on take off and LHR were switching the runway lights off as we went up the runway.

I asked Thai Airways UK on Facebook about Manchester but they did not reveal anything, however it does look promising from what i have seen here. I was lucky enough to fly the A350 a couple of times on it's recent short Heathrow slot, and in Economy I found it preferable to the 380 and 777.
-
Thai Airways have stated that the current shortage of A380 availability is because they are waiting for Rolls Royce to supply a couple of new engines.

Going back 20 years it wasn't A380 v 777, but it was A340 v 747, my favourite aircraft of all time is the 747-400, yes, even the BR Combi ones. :) I admit to liking the A350 but Melbourne have nicked that off the LHR route. :)

jacko, That's what I thought, but with flightradar24 it is easy to track a particular aircraft as well as a flight, so i had a delve. On the 3rd it was HS-TUA which arrived BKK at 5-31 am (30 early) on TG 931 from Paris On the 5th it was HS-TUB which arrived BKK at 5-50 am (15 late) on TG920 from Frankfurt. As I said, on the 1st we had 500 pax so I guess there has been quite a lot of re-booking going on to get passengers back to LHR.

I have just had a look at Flightradar24 and TG are having problems with the 380 availability on the LHR route. Saturday 3rd TG910 arrived at LHR just under 8 hours late, Sunday the 4th it was a 777, Monday 5th again 8 hours late and Tue 6th,Wed 7th and Thurs 8th booked for 777. It was a good job I had the A380 on the 1st as we had 500 pax on board.

I have flown twice on the Thai A380 and have to say the toilet flushing system is very noisy in the rear economy section. I was halfway down the section on row 71 but still noisy, I am not sure if some of the noise comes from the upstairs loo.

I did a dummy booking on ba.com and found huge differences in Business class fares using the same BA LHR-BKK flight and dates. Return fares were approx, LHR £2600, AMS 1300 Euros, Brussels around 2,000 Euros and Paris about 1,600 Euros. Now I know airport taxes are more expensive in the UK, but surely not the difference that BA charges between it's LHR and AMS fares. I doubt that I will ever fly BA but I thank thinkingallowed for the heads up on this.

Thanks for the info thinkingallowed, is the 1100 GBP or Euros?

It's Thailand, so who knows?
-
keyman I am not sure the baggage comes off the carousel 'Priority', but it should have a 'Priority' label. :)
-
I have just booked 917 A350 on the 30th jan, return on 910 A380 on 1st March, £635 direct with Thai. I know it is possible to buy a bit cheaper but I prefer to book with the airline rather than some of these lesser known travel companies. I am 'Silver' now so get priority baggage and maybe it helps when I 'need to have a word' with a member of staff, Angie at LHR was helpful last trip. :)

From February the fabulous A350 is being replaced on TG916/7 with the 777/300ER, well that didn't last long did it? From TG Facebook I was informed the airline needed more Premium seats on the LHR route, according to SeatGuru the 777 has 42 Business class against 32 on the A350. I should be OK to get the 350 on 917 and the 380 on 910 this next trip in around 3 weeks time, I have not booked yet but looking around £635.

My friend was on the BA flight to Thailand and the flight attendant told him that as part of the in flight emergency procedure he would have to put his head down between his knees, he replied," If I could do that, then I wouldn't be going to Bangkok"

When VS started it's LHR-HKG-SYD route many years ago I wrote to Virgin and told them they should include BKK as a stopover instead of HKG, they didn't and as far as I now they do not fly to Sydney. I bet a few UK guys are going out to Australia for the Ashes and stopping off in Bangkok for a couple of days. :)

I have not been to Patts on the train but I have been to Hua Hin many times, this last trip we were due to arrive in HH at 1710hrs but got there at 1950hrs, that's Thai Railways for you, they don't have a time table but a calendar. :) It used to be great fun travelling by train but nowadays alcohol is not allowed on board so not so good. Hualamphong is the main station in Bangkok but in the next year or two this will be closing and a new transport interchange is under construction at Bang Sue (Don Mueng side of town) we passed Bang Sue recently and I have never seen so much concrete in my

Thanks for that guys, in the past when I dummy booked a fare on the 380, the upstairs wasn't available on the cheapest ticket, but buying the next tier made the top deck available, makes good business sense really.
-
I'm sure up stairs is better than downstairs, well it is in Downton. :) It's just the seat comfortability and pitch plus the size of screen etc means that I prefer the A350 over the 380. I hope to go again the end of January beginning of February so I will make my mind up nearer the time. FWIW, If the flight is not full do TG tend to have more free seats per passenger upstairs rather than downstairs if you see what I mean, such as leaving upstairs economy for higher grade economy tickets plus maybe Silver Royal Orchid members? Are the same fares available when phoning TG London as the

marley, Well done Sir! Did you pay the next higher fare to secure a seat up top? I am wondering now that I am Silver if that would let me go upstairs if I was 'All Smiley' on check in.
-
I forgot to mention that on the A380 I was 4 rows from the toilets at the rear of the aircraft yet I could still hear the flushing very clearly, normally it is only a couple of rows that are noisy.

OK Guys, I'm back from Thailand. I used to love Eva, but for me they are too popular and now with the 3-4-3 and less bogs it's TG for me. :) I flew out on a Tuesday hoping the TG917 flight with the A350 was not too full, in spite of looking at seat availability just a few days before, the flight was virtually full, I did manage to get a seat with nobody next to me so that was the best I could hope for. I loved the 350, the seats seemed a lot better and roomier than the 777 or 380, I am a big falang and my knees never touched the seat in front, I loved the larger screens with the headphone
