  1. Computerised Reservation Systems have pretty much done away with the notion of standby fares that we had in the UK in the 80s or early 90s. Generally speaking, when you make a booking each segment will show your booking status - OK or HK1 for confirmed, WL for wait-listed or RQ for the seat being requested but not confirmed. Cheapie "standbys" normally only go to airline or industry employees nowadays.
  2. You would need to make a booking at whatever the going rate is to be waitlisted in the first place. That said, in my experience, there normally tends to be some good offers released by the airlines/agents immediately after the New Year holiday.
  3. OOOps, again! Apparently some other folks are having their own problems ... "Aviation Week says that deliveries of the 787 Dreamline will be delayed again which should put more pressure on CEO W Jame McNerney, Jr. to resign. He joined the company on July 1, 2005. That is about the time that development of the 787 began, so the multiple setbacks that Boeing has had to announce about late deliveries have all happened while he has been chief executive. “Boeing has told several of its early 787 customers about delivery delays of up to 10 months”, industry sources told the publication". There again, maybe the magazine made the story up.
  4. Didn't the one of the RR engines being fitted to the Dreamliner test planes suffer a catastrophic failure a month or two back? What happened there? Is Boeing continuing with the the aircraft, or what?
  5. They'll blame the Italians, or the Brits, or the Martians.
  6. I don't think you can get an 18 year-old for 1,000 Baht.
  7. In Scotland it works out at 28 quid for 12 boxes of 4 Cialis over a year if you pay in advance.
  8. Häagen-Dazs does good coffee.
  9. I agree with Jacko. Simply decide on the model then go online and check if there is a hack. If there is, go and buy the thing.
  10. I don't think potential life threatening incidents are good news for anyone. That said, QANTAS suffered an identical incident on a 747-400 out of San Francisco a couple of weeks ago. On a brighter note ... "Singapore-based aircraft leasing firm BOC Aviation announced on Wednesday it had ordered 30 Airbus A320 medium-range airliners for delivery between 2012 and 2014. The company did not say how much it was paying, but the average price of the aircraft on January 30 was about 80 million dollars (57 million euros)." Good business for Airbus, and with the Chinese in Paris this week, there could be more to come.
  11. I'm not a techie, but I assume that your router would have to be wired to your ISP (if you have one) somewhere along the way. In which case, why not just connect to your router using an ethernet cable?
  12. Responds in kind to personal addenda such as "Lame". Are you going to start a new thread, 'Dreamliner on schedule for delivery in 2008 2009 2010 2011'?
  13. The theory is that by 2015, the amount you've paid in NI contributions will count for nothing.
  14. Thai has the only non-stop from LA.
  15. And to think that you had aspirations of becoming an English teacher. The words 'mustard' and 'cut' spring to mind.
  16. Offers from Thailand - 29 Oct Travel - 9-30 Nov
  17. I don't need a selective memory. Time capsule comes bundled with Leopard.
  18. I would have used the quote function, or quotation marks, if I wanted to "quote" one of your posts. But I didn't, so I didn't. Anyway, I don't know why you're upset as I basically agreed with your opinion that some Italians "can't cut the mustard". Some even go out of their way to emphasise the point. BTW, it's not really very good forum etiquette to amend your post after others have quoted it.
  19. Friday is AirAsia FABULOUS FLY-DAY! Or, so they say. The first day is tomorrow but I have no idea about what deals they will post. Could be useful for a short-notice trip though. Note the times are Malay clock ... GMT+8
  20. Well spotted! It's called paraphrasing.
  21. LOL. Likewise, but we can live in hope.
  22. Nice stories about Narathiwat. A bit further from me than Cambodia is from Pattaya, and about as relevant. Why would I? As I said, you know zero. Imagine returning to a place you regard as a shithole. It's not me that's having to up sticks and fuck off back home. You brought up the subject, nobody else did. I see BigD was pointing out what a bunch of wankers the Italians are. Must be something in their genes, if you ask me.
  23. Not a lot different from the Residence Garden then.
  24. USD 35 per kilo from UK to LOS.
  25. The proposed Sino-Thai rail projects seem to be progressing. A long way off yet , but a lot further forward than they were 6 months ago. High-speed train project moves ahead Framework approved for Thai-China talks A joint parliamentary session has approved a draft framework for negotiations with China on a national high-speed train network project for Thailand. Lawmakers yesterday voted 295 to 10 in favour of the negotiation framework. Sixty-one MPs abstained and 21 did not exercise their right to vote. Transport Minister Sohpon Zarum said officials from his ministry and those from its Chinese counterpart planned to meet soon to discuss the project, including what priority the different proposed routes should receive. The project would see China build five high-speed railway routes linking Bangkok to Nong Khai, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Rayong and Padang Besar, the border town in Malaysia opposite Songkhla's Sadao district. Trains would reach speeds of up to 250km/h. Future cooperation would also cover land development and technology transfer, he said. "This issue must be put on the national agenda so that it can be sped up quickly," Mr Sohpon said. He hoped significant progress would be made on the project by next year. The Rayong, Nong Khai and Padang Besar routes are tipped as most likely to be built first. The results of the negotiations with China would require parliamentary approval to move forward, Mr Sophon said. The minister said the high-speed train project would be a government-to-government deal. It would be separate from a 170 billion baht project to improve the State Railway of Thailand's existing network. Mr Sohpon was asked during yesterday's session why China was the only country being considered for the partnership. He said the country was interested in investing in Thailand and the region, and had also signed an agreement to build a railway to Laos. Mr Sohpon said Thailand would remain open to proposals from other countries to develop rail networks.
