Usually they want you to throw down a certain amount of baht to back up what you say. If its not too busy, just show up and get a room, high season (Nov 1 to Feb 15) you need to make reservations. I stay at the baybreeze and my discount is usually quite good, on a long stay. I ran into high season on the last time, and they gave me low season prices for 2 months of staying there. Low season there is 500bt and high season is 600bt, so I paid 500bt a day for 2 months.
