  1. Hi bkkbob .... The Dynasty Resort is up the hill towards Jomtien. The hill is quite steep and would probably be a struggle if you cycled. From Walking Street to the Resort is about 10 minutes. There is a free bahtbus into Pattaya from the resort every two hours from 2pm until 8pm. I seem to remember the 6pm one has been cancelled from last time I was there. However, you have to make your own arrangements to return. At the end of the road (The Resort is down a side road) there are many motorbike taxi's who are always available 24 hours per day, which is useful if your short-time lady needs to leave in the early hours. A motorcycle is 30-50 baht. The pool is quite large and has poolside service from the staff who are really friendly. The pool seems to be quiet most of the time though. Fine if you prefer solitude. The rooms with balconies I find are superb. They are pretty new at around a year or two old. The room has a large bathroom with shower. There is a sitting area with a large sofa and a dining table should you need to work or have a meal from room service. I personally recommend the chilli beef at around 200 baht. There is a TV which has lots of Thai channels and the usual CNN news type channels. The room has a good adjustable a/c unit. The balcony has a table and chairs and is almost palatial compared with some I have seen. It overlooks the hotel and surrounding grounds. I have a couple of photographs of the room I can send you. The lobby has a bar and internet access and has a/c. I like to have a couple of beers there whilst waiting for the free bus and there are usually a few other farangs around to talk with. Newspapers such as the local Engish ones are provided along with Herald and Tribune and a German language Farang magazine. I have never stayed in the bungalows but they look fine. You merely walk through the garden to get to them. I'm not on a commission from the Dynasty! but I've been disappointed with some of the hotels I've used in Pattaya and Bangkok so I stay with the one I know and am never disappointed. I'll try to message you the pictures, not sure if I'm able to though. Good luck!
  2. You could try the Dynasty Resort (Yes, I really like the place!). If you ask for a room with a balcony you do not have to go through reception. They also have bungalows where you don't have to go through the lobby. The price for a room with balcony is 1200 baht and is superb. There is also a pool. On the downside the Resort is a little outside of Pattaya with a bahtbus costing about 80-100 baht and taking all of ten minutes to get there. Their website is at www.dynastyinn.com They also offer free transport from Bkk to Pattaya if you spend one night at their hotel next to Nana Plaza and then 3 nights at the Resort hotel in Pattaya. Wow man, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 8pm and 2am!!! Good luck!
  3. Hi Jauls, don't worry too much. The Qatari's are ok. The country is very much the dame as Dubai. You will have a good time in your hotel if it is really a 5*. I wish you luck and hope that the missed night in LoS is not too painful. All the best!
  4. After making the above post I did a search on Google just to make sure the phrase I used was not a figment of my imagination. I have heard many expats use it but wondered if I had used it in the wrong context. Interestingly, I came upon this poem by Malcolm Pryce. The Walk of Shame It's quite obvious she was a prostitute said Mrs Prendergast Her face twitching with disgust I don't know what gets into them They're worse than elephants in musth. Mrs Prendergast is a good friend of Father Bernhard She gives up everything for Lent And when she assumes the moral high ground She takes along a couple of sherpas to carry her tent. I don't know what possesses them Is it something to do with the heat? She was young enough to be his daughter And did you see what she had on her feet? Oh no Mrs Prendergast, please! Please don't mention the boots! Those huge gigantic, seven league boots Cobbled from cork and PVC and destined to clump Across the marble foyer of the hotel And make the ex-pat look a chump. Why don't they warn you in the bar? Why don't they tell you? The girl dancing in the bikini Will leave wearing a fluorescent 'Hello Kitty' knapsack Jeans with bunny rabbits embroidered on the pockets And to complete the whole ghastly ensemble Boots bigger than rockets. It's the girl I feel sorry for, says Mrs Prendergast They do it to buy a buffalo Oh really what a laugh! Then according to the name cards she had in her purse I'd say the biggest supplier of buffalo to Thailand Are United States Diplomatic staff. And the BBC I'm sorry Mrs Prendergast, I know I'm not the Pope But I wish I could get 2000 baht an hour Just for watching a Channel Seven soap. And steal everything from the minibar while the guy is on the phone If she's anybody's daughter Mrs Prendergast I'd say it was Al Capone. But stung by the censure I seek out Father Bernhard In the matter of fallen women, it appears he's rather learned. When I tell him about the girl with boots bigger than rockets He says you mean the little cute one with bunnies on her pockets? Oh my God! Father no! Can this really be? Don't judge me too harshly my son, she said I was jai-dee All the same Father, as a bearer of God's sacred logo Surely you shouldn't be entering Playskool a Go-Go? Consider Saint Augustine, my son, we're forever in his debt Oh Lord give me chastity, he said - but not yet. And since God made this banquet, is it right that we should fast? Just make sure you don't tell Mrs Prendergast. Copyright © 2003 by Malcolm Pryce
  5. I understand it to be that walk between the hotel entrance to the reception and then to the lift with your chosen lady. A tongue in cheek phrase.
  6. As ever I recommend the Dynasty Inn at http://www.dynastyinn.com which is only a stumble away from Nana Plaza and no walk of shame if you stay in the rooms at the back. It's under 1000 baht per night too.
  7. Late one night last November I caught a baht bus up to the Dynasty Resort where I was staying. The driver invited me to sit in the front with him. We agreed a price of 100 baht which is about the same as I have paid on dozens of occasions. Arriving at the Dynasty Resort the driver pulled up and demanded 150 baht. I told him I thought we had agreed 100 baht as the fare. Being aware of the need not to appear angry, which was easy as I was was confused by his demand, I attempted to talk with him. Without warning this guy started shouting at me and produced a gun from under his seat. I was out of the bus and into reception quicker than a BG's order for a ladydrink. I figured reception was the safest place to be. The guy followed me into reception (minus the gun) and started remonstrating with the girl on reception. Having visions of unmentionable things happening to me I kept quiet and eventually the guy calmed down and left. Nothing was ever said to me by the staff at reception during that stay and subsequent stays and I can only presume it was an isolated incident as I have never heard of this happening before or since. I have no way of knowing whether the gun was real or not, whether this guy was a rip-off merchant who preyed on farang's or whether I have the sort of face that invites trouble. During all my visits to LoS I have never had a similar experience over a bahtbus fare. I don't really care whether I am charged 80 or 100 baht as it's only a small amount of money. I have thought about my reaction to his demand many times and I am sure I showed no aggression only questioning the driver in a polite manner. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
  8. I know this flame war isn't really any of my business but here goes. This is a discussion board anyway, isn't it? I have been to BKK and Pattaya several times. To be exact, 8 times. I always enjoy my time there. I've been back 24 hours or so now and can't wait until I go again which I hope will be in a month or two. I don't understand the need to know more than anyone else about Pattaya. One of the beautiful things about Pattaya is you learn something new everytime. The wonder is there for all visitors to see. When that wonder disappears, will I still want to go? I don't know. What's the big deal about freebies? I'm 42 years old and not in bad nick. I wouldn't for one minute say I am handsome or a hunk. I get my fair share of ladies in the UK if I strike when the iron is hot. Although by no means am I prolific! In Pattaya I see some of the most beautiful women in the world every minute of every day. If you treat your chosen lady with kindness and respect you will receive the same in return. This last time I visited I met a wonderful lady. We had a couple of nice days out and a couple of great nights in, she didn't fall in love and neither did I. We are adults and know how the system works. On the last night we exchanged gifts and parted. We will stay in contact by email because we had a good time. That's all. As for freebies, well, everytime we did the deed we didn't agree a price or haggle (lol). We were both having a good time and that was it. Money was paid and I'm sure there was a freebie or two in there. Most visitors to Pattaya will know that if you treat the lady well you will not have to discuss prices or other such things, you will have a good time and that is it. The money part just comes naturally. For instance, if you take the lady shopping she will help you haggle for presents to take home and assist you in taking you to the best shops for the best bargains. For example, I bought some specialist software (engineering modelling) which saved me a considerable amount of money. Without her I wouldn't have known where to go. So let's just see the business for what it is. Farangs pay for the lady's time. It isn't always just about sex, it is about two human beings (if compatible) having a good time. Getting a freebie is about as important as whether it rains on a Tuesday or not. Hope this little ramble proves useful to someone. I'm not taking sides just giving my point of view. Good luck!
  9. I took the free minibus from the Dynasty Inn to the Dynasty Resort. It went directly to the Dynasty Resort and took 2 hours. I must disagree with the previous comment about the Dynasty Resort being in the middle of nowhere. It takes a bahtbus ten minutes maximum to get there from Walking Street (80 baht). Hardly in the middle of nowhere. I took the free bus into Pattaya one evening and asked the driver to stop at the new Dynasty Inn in Pattaya. It is easily within walking distance of all the action. I went inside and was shown a room. The foyer is very much the same as the Dynasty Resort. The rooms are magnificent and I fully recommend a stay there. However, I still prefer the Dynasty Resort because of the location, the pool, the quality of the rooms and the friendliness of the staff. By the way, went to the FLB party on the 6th. Had an excellent time but left early to watch the England match.
  10. Also, take into account that for most of the journey there are no motorway lights. The central reservation barriers are at times non-existent and often one can see cars written off and abandoned in the large holes between the carriageways. I wouldn't advise speeding at any time on the Bkk Pattaya road, least of all at night. Take an extra 30 minutes and arrive in one piece .... and alive.
  11. In my post above I said there were no local departures from the UK with Turkish Airlines. On reading other posts on this forum I now understand there are. Please accept my apologies.
  12. I managed to get a short notice (less than 1 week) flight to Bangkok at £505 inc taxes with Gazelle Travel in Newcastle. They also quoted me £469 inc taxes with China Airlines from a local airport via Amsterdam. I chose KLM at £505 because the departure time suited my schedule. This price (I think) is available throughout September as KLM have a promotion at the moment. I have used Turkish Airlines frequently in the past as they have always come up with a good price at between £400-£450 inc taxes. However, they don't offer local departures and didn't have availability at the time of booking. The extra £50 or so I have spent with KLM is what I will save not having to travel to Heathrow. Also, the somewhat groggy journey home will be shortened by some 4 hours as I live in the Midlands. A very welcome travel amendment. I cannot wait for that first cold beer at about 3pm on Tuesday in Bangkok. For some reason I just don't seem to get jetlag when arriving in LoS. It must be something to do with the local brew!
  13. I don't know about the Bkk Dynasty but at the Pattaya Dynasty Resort there is no fee. For most of the rooms, there is no need to go near reception as the rooms are across the road and in the grounds.
  14. I've stayed at the Dynasty Resort in Pattaya a couple of times before and found it to be excellent value. The room rate of between 990 and 1200 baht per night is expensive by Pattaya standards but the quality is excellent. The rooms are clean, furnished excellently, room service is good and cheap and the staff friendly and efficient. Each room (not the bungalows) has a large balcony. The baht bus from Pattaya only takes 10 minutes and is 80 baht. There is a free shuttle bus every 2 hours from the resort into Pattaya. The transport from Pattaya to the airport in Bkk is free and id you stay for a night at their hotel in Bkk thenm the transfer to Pattaya is free too. I'll be staying there next week. I'll also be looking up the new hotel in Pattaya but I'll be reluctant to stay anywhere other than the resort. I was hoping this place would stay a secret :'( The receptionists are cute aswell!
  15. I'll be in Pattaya from this Sunday. I can't wait. Only a short trip of 5 or 6 days this time. It's my life fix and I will love every minute of it. Yes, I'm addicted! PS - Tell me more about what items are sold on ebay from LoS [smiley=grins-jump.gif]
