  1. Hi bkkbob .... The Dynasty Resort is up the hill towards Jomtien. The hill is quite steep and would probably be a struggle if you cycled. From Walking Street to the Resort is about 10 minutes. There is a free bahtbus into Pattaya from the resort every two hours from 2pm until 8pm. I seem to remember the 6pm one has been cancelled from last time I was there. However, you have to make your own arrangements to return. At the end of the road (The Resort is down a side road) there are many motorbike taxi's who are always available 24 hours per day, which is useful if your short-time lady needs to l
  2. You could try the Dynasty Resort (Yes, I really like the place!). If you ask for a room with a balcony you do not have to go through reception. They also have bungalows where you don't have to go through the lobby. The price for a room with balcony is 1200 baht and is superb. There is also a pool. On the downside the Resort is a little outside of Pattaya with a bahtbus costing about 80-100 baht and taking all of ten minutes to get there. Their website is at www.dynastyinn.com They also offer free transport from Bkk to Pattaya if you spend one night at their hotel next to Nana Plaza and th
  3. Hi Jauls, don't worry too much. The Qatari's are ok. The country is very much the dame as Dubai. You will have a good time in your hotel if it is really a 5*. I wish you luck and hope that the missed night in LoS is not too painful. All the best!
  4. After making the above post I did a search on Google just to make sure the phrase I used was not a figment of my imagination. I have heard many expats use it but wondered if I had used it in the wrong context. Interestingly, I came upon this poem by Malcolm Pryce. The Walk of Shame It's quite obvious she was a prostitute said Mrs Prendergast Her face twitching with disgust I don't know what gets into them They're worse than elephants in musth. Mrs Prendergast is a good friend of Father Bernhard She gives up everything for Lent And when she assumes the moral high ground
  5. I understand it to be that walk between the hotel entrance to the reception and then to the lift with your chosen lady. A tongue in cheek phrase.
  6. As ever I recommend the Dynasty Inn at http://www.dynastyinn.com which is only a stumble away from Nana Plaza and no walk of shame if you stay in the rooms at the back. It's under 1000 baht per night too.
  7. Late one night last November I caught a baht bus up to the Dynasty Resort where I was staying. The driver invited me to sit in the front with him. We agreed a price of 100 baht which is about the same as I have paid on dozens of occasions. Arriving at the Dynasty Resort the driver pulled up and demanded 150 baht. I told him I thought we had agreed 100 baht as the fare. Being aware of the need not to appear angry, which was easy as I was was confused by his demand, I attempted to talk with him. Without warning this guy started shouting at me and produced a gun from under his seat. I was out of
  8. I know this flame war isn't really any of my business but here goes. This is a discussion board anyway, isn't it? I have been to BKK and Pattaya several times. To be exact, 8 times. I always enjoy my time there. I've been back 24 hours or so now and can't wait until I go again which I hope will be in a month or two. I don't understand the need to know more than anyone else about Pattaya. One of the beautiful things about Pattaya is you learn something new everytime. The wonder is there for all visitors to see. When that wonder disappears, will I still want to go? I don't know. What's
  9. I took the free minibus from the Dynasty Inn to the Dynasty Resort. It went directly to the Dynasty Resort and took 2 hours. I must disagree with the previous comment about the Dynasty Resort being in the middle of nowhere. It takes a bahtbus ten minutes maximum to get there from Walking Street (80 baht). Hardly in the middle of nowhere. I took the free bus into Pattaya one evening and asked the driver to stop at the new Dynasty Inn in Pattaya. It is easily within walking distance of all the action. I went inside and was shown a room. The foyer is very much the same as the Dynasty Res
  10. Also, take into account that for most of the journey there are no motorway lights. The central reservation barriers are at times non-existent and often one can see cars written off and abandoned in the large holes between the carriageways. I wouldn't advise speeding at any time on the Bkk Pattaya road, least of all at night. Take an extra 30 minutes and arrive in one piece .... and alive.
  11. In my post above I said there were no local departures from the UK with Turkish Airlines. On reading other posts on this forum I now understand there are. Please accept my apologies.
  12. I managed to get a short notice (less than 1 week) flight to Bangkok at £505 inc taxes with Gazelle Travel in Newcastle. They also quoted me £469 inc taxes with China Airlines from a local airport via Amsterdam. I chose KLM at £505 because the departure time suited my schedule. This price (I think) is available throughout September as KLM have a promotion at the moment. I have used Turkish Airlines frequently in the past as they have always come up with a good price at between £400-£450 inc taxes. However, they don't offer local departures and didn't have availability at the time of booki
  13. I don't know about the Bkk Dynasty but at the Pattaya Dynasty Resort there is no fee. For most of the rooms, there is no need to go near reception as the rooms are across the road and in the grounds.
  14. I've stayed at the Dynasty Resort in Pattaya a couple of times before and found it to be excellent value. The room rate of between 990 and 1200 baht per night is expensive by Pattaya standards but the quality is excellent. The rooms are clean, furnished excellently, room service is good and cheap and the staff friendly and efficient. Each room (not the bungalows) has a large balcony. The baht bus from Pattaya only takes 10 minutes and is 80 baht. There is a free shuttle bus every 2 hours from the resort into Pattaya. The transport from Pattaya to the airport in Bkk is free and id you stay
  15. I'll be in Pattaya from this Sunday. I can't wait. Only a short trip of 5 or 6 days this time. It's my life fix and I will love every minute of it. Yes, I'm addicted! PS - Tell me more about what items are sold on ebay from LoS [smiley=grins-jump.gif]
