  1. Here is a photo the beef enchilada and taco combination. I think it is #11 on the menu. The taco is a hard taco which I like. In California, the default taco is usually a soft taco. The rice was dry, the refried beans were not that tasty. The enchilada and taco were just okay, but I doubt I will eat here again before trying other Mexican.
  2. I'm in complete agreement with you. Regarding the soup, the broth was too light, the cheese was too little and wasn't melted enough. The sliced sandwich bread and frozen fries took away from the meal as well. But as mentioned, at that price point what would you expect. The only raw beef I've ever eaten was thinly sliced Kobe and it was fantastic. But this doesn't really look appetizing to me.
  3. I just flew this class from San Francisco to Taipei.. It was on board a 777 with a 1-2-1 configuration. So every seat is an aisle seat. I had a window seat, however it is difficult to see much outside of the window because of the shelf. (Think looking out the window from a middle seat in economy). One issue I have with the design of these pods is the TV has to swing out in order to view it. During landing and take off, you have to stow the TV. EVA has/had a "gate to gate" entertainment system in Elite class, not sure about economy. It was always nice to be able to finish off that last 15 min
  4. I've never flown Air Asia to Surat Thani, but have flown them to/from Krabi, Phuket, Trang, and Chiang Mai. The only issue is that they will nickel and dime you to death. Even after paying to increase my baggage allowance and for the privilege of picking my seat, it still turns out to be a fairly good deal. If you book online, be very careful about the insurance, I believe it's selected by default, so you have to remember to deselect it. Flying to Samui is very expensive as Bangkok Air owns the airport, so they have a monopoly and won't let low cost carriers land there. Last time I did Sam
  5. Although I have no experience in the matter, I'm surprised the stamp has to be transferred at all. I've heard for people who get the US 10 year multiple entry tourist visa, if their passport expires, then they simply bring both. Likewise, I'd imagine that one would simply bring both passports next time one had to deal with Thai immigration. But if were in that situation, I'd definitely check first.

  7. Yes, they use your search history and tracking cookies to help determine what ads to show you. It is annoying to see the same agoda ad everywhere. But what really pissed me off was when I went to one site that had an interstitial survey with no close button, but a "powered by Google" bit. So I finally installed an ad blocker on my browser and never looked back. You can go to the Ads Preferences Manager and opt-out at the bottom. But I'm not sure if this will change much because it looks like you only opt out of "interest" based ads. http://www.google.com/ads/preferences
  8. I'm surprised someone from Google in FLB would admit to working at Google with that "Don't be evil" corporate motto. I even wonder if having your picture taken in "such an establishment" with a Google shirt on could be grounds for dismissal. Of course, Google employees go to Pattaya. Last time I was there, I saw a bar girl wearing a woman's Google shirt. I suspect it was a gift from a Google employee as it looked to be the real deal. Also, I saw someone a guy at Roxy wearing a YouTube shirt that I suspect works at Google. Sorry, I just realized this was tongue in cheek. And for the
  9. ` Maybe I'm doing something wrong, and I certainly don't have a lot of experience, but I've never had an issue getting a baht bus. If the traffic is moving and one doesn't stop, then another will be by in less than ten seconds. The issues I have had are getting on a songthaew that is waiting for more customers and they just wait until it is at 100% capacity. I usually get off after a few minutes and get one that is already moving. Another issue is taking a songthaew on Beach Road that turns before South Pattaya Road.
  10. And how many can find Cleveland...or Ohio or even the Great Lakes?
  11. Thai's can't read maps. While it is true many Thais cannot read maps, it's also true many Americans cannot point to Canada on an unlabeled map. I do know Thais that can read maps and determine directions based on it just fine.
  12. There are a couple of aspects to this myth. One you've mentioned already. Basically, Thai people only meet westerners who are affluent enough (or adventurous enough like backpackers) to make it to Thailand. If we made similar judgments based on the Thai people that visit the West, we'd probably put them into two categories: affluent and well educated and able to travel and hard working Thais willing to work while on a tourist visa. The other side is when a Thai does get to the West, especially the States, they see homeless beggars and the cost of everything is much higher. This dispels the
  13. Just to be sure we are all talking about the same thing. By recovery time, I'm talking about resumption of sexual activity. To be honest, three days sounds a bit quick.
  14. My curiosity has been inspired by another post. I'm curious how much a vasectomy cost in Thailand as well as the recovery time. Does anyone have any experience in this regard?
  15. I use GMail (technically Google Voice) to make voice calls from my computer in Thailand to the US. One note, however, is that you cannot call Vonage numbers. On the calling end, it just sounds as though it is ringing, but the call never goes through. This is because Vonage basically blocks Google Voice calls. I suspect it is because they are competitors. I may as well put in a warning here as well. If you use Google Voice to make international calls from your phone in the States, it works just fine. It also works just fine from Thailand. However, the way Google Voice works is that from you

  17. Not real. Check Snopes whenever something seems too stupid to be real. While this was fake, snopes does point out there are some real ones that are nearly as bad.
  18. Actually, the Amish are called the Pennsylvania Dutch (don't know if they use a similar term in other states) because the 'English' speakers could not understand 'Deutsch'. But even that would only be referring to them by the language they speak.
  19. It's nothing like SPAM. Spam is a salty pink loaf, while scrapple is a mealy grey loaf.
