LeoTex: I am booked into a suite at the Sandy Springs in January. What did you think of the rooms? Worth the price?
-
NWA just joined SkyTeam Global Alliance which is a partnership with several airlines. http://www.skyteam.com/skyteam Go to this website and it will link you with all of the airlines participating.
-
What is a " bog" when referring to the room?
-
Just noticed that NWA has dropped the prices on some of their flights from Minnepaolis in Jan/Feb. They were running around $1400 and they now can be had for around $960.00. Not real low but a little bit better. Use the NWA website as they seem to be cheaper than the other travel sites.

Keep your eyes open. They should be comng up with Winter fare sales to Asia within the next few weeks.
-
I fly out of MSP also and lucked out one night while checking on NWA's website. Got a flight leaving in Jan roundtrip to BKK for less than $400. It may have been a mistake on their part I don't know but it is mine now. It was a promo fare MSP-Portland-Nrta-BKK. Return is BKK-Nrt-MSP. The flight from Portland to NRT is also on the new A330. Keep checking they may some promo fares pop up. I did not have to use any frequent flyer miles but I also do not accrue any for this. Your correct though in that the only thing I have seen lately it around $1400. Don't give up as they should be posting some winter specials soon. Good luck.

You have to make sure you get a hoover that is bagless. You want one that will be able to suck with sufficient force but not require the use of a bag.

I have a deluxe room booked also for January. I have to give it a try. If I hate it I will look for something else but it must be tried.

Hotel Rooms filling up fast!
kikc69 replied to kingfisher's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I booked a suite for middle of January a couple of weeks ago at Sandy Springs. Gave them credit card info. I hope since it seems like it is so long off they keep the room for me when i arrive. Would really be pissed if I get there and they have it rented out. Does anyone know if most places are good at keeping the room for you or should I cover my bases and have another room reserved somewhere else -
I thought I read somewhere that the owners of the Majestic Suites were building another hotel. Does anyone know about this. I have booked a Deluxe room for January at the Nana. Have never stayed there but have eaten in the restaurant and it seems so nice to just walk out into the parking lot and pick what you want and head up to the room.
-
Thanks for the info guys. The Sandy Springs said they could give me a suite for 1990 baht. I think I will try that for a few days and while there look at the other places. The Inn House sounds pretty good for 1400.
-
Try Travelocity, Expedia or Orbitz on the web. Some good deals can be found and at times cheaper than going through the airlines website or an agency.

I sort of asked this question in another thread but I would like to get a hotel room with seperate bedroom and living rooms. I have stayed at the Residence Garden before and I think it is great. Only drawback is going back and forth to the action. I also have enquired at the Sandy Springs but for the time period I am looking (middle of January) they want 2500 baht. I sent them an email to see if I could get the membership rate at 1990 but have not recieved a reply yet. Are there any other places that would fit the bill around 2000 baht. If it is between the Sandy Springs for 2500 and RG for 1380 I will go with the RG.
-
Thanks Bigmike for all of the help.
-
I am not arriving till January. Not sure about Sandy Spring now as 2500 baht is getting to pricey. Also I really do not want to book a room and give my credit card info over the net. I know I can book the RG without a credit card deposit. May get that for a few days and wander over to Sandy Spring and see if they have rooms available when am there.
-
Thanks for the replies. Now I may lean toward the Sandy Spring versus the RG. About 600 baht difference. You are right LeoTex about the need for seperate rooms. I like to wake early and the chance to go into the other room and watch tv or just read the paper is what I need. What is the "member rate"? Member of what?
-
Clubman: Do you know if the Sandy Springs suite has separate bedroom and living rooms. That is what I like about the Residence Garden but might pay a little bit more for something closer to the action.
-
Clubman: I think the Residence Garden might work out for you. The price cannot be beat. 1380 baht per night. Very guest friendly. Not on top of the action. Very nice rooms and two swimming pools. Only drawback is it is not right in the heart of the bar scene. Check out the website that flashes above. Kick

I am not sure what is going on with the fare. I found it online once and took it. Then it was gone. Later I checked and it was back again. Now I just looked and it is not there. This is how the fare appeared when I found it the second time. I copied it and here is the paste of what it was. 461.50 airfare Promo Fare Northwest Airlines 589 Booking Class(es): K Fare Basis Codes: K14CASH Ticket Designators: PD333 Fri, Jan 14 3hr 46min 9:10am Depart Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) 10:56am Arrive Portland (PDX) Plane Change Northwest Airlines 5 Booking Class(es): K Fare Basis Codes: K14CASH Ticket Designators: PD333 Fri, Jan 14 10hr 50min 12:15pm Depart Portland (PDX) 4:05pm Arrive Tokyo (NRT) Plane Change Northwest Airlines 27 Booking Class(es): K Fare Basis Codes: K14CASH Ticket Designators: PD333 Sat, Jan 15 7hr 15min 6:35pm Depart Tokyo (NRT) 11:50pm Arrive Bangkok (BKK) Northwest Airlines 28 Booking Class(es): K Fare Basis Codes: K14CASH Ticket Designators: PD333 Fri, Jan 28 5hr 45min 6:00am Depart Bangkok (BKK) 1:45pm Arrive Tokyo (NRT) Plane Change Northwest Airlines 20 Booking Class(es): K Fare Basis Codes: K14CASH Ticket Designators: PD333 Fri, Jan 28 10hr 55min 3:00pm Depart Tokyo (NRT) 10:55am Arrive Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) I do not know if it was a screw up or not. Someone said they called Northwest and they did not know anything about it. I do know that I have a confirmation number and do not think they can take it back.

I guess it is similar to a cash and miles plan in that you do not earn miles from the flight. But you do not have to spend any of your miles that you have for the ticket. I debated which way I wanted to go. Last July it cost me $1200 for a ticket. I earned 18000 miles. This ticket cost a total of $460.00. But will not earn any miles. Looking to save a quick buck this way.

It is 3:00 am and I was up and decided to check on latest prices for flights to LOS in January 2005. Northwest just started a promo fare. I have a roundtrip ticket from Minneapolis to Bangkok for $461.50 total cost. Only big drawback is you do not earn frequent flyer miles. I also checked from Los Angeles to LOS roundtrip it is $374.00. I decided the hell with the miles and took the cheap flight. Fly from MSP to Portland change planes, take the new Airbus to Narita and Airbus to Bangkok. Flying back it is Bangkok to Narita and Narita straight into MSP. Pretty good price I think. Not sure how long promo will last but it said must book by Dec 2005. It is still a long ways off but I am set. Now just counting the days. 118 days
-
You are right about the prices. I checked last week and it was $811.00 for a flight to LA then to Tokyo and on to Bangkok. A flight from MSP to Tokyo and to Bandgkok was $854.00. Now I looked and they have jumped way up. Keep checking maybe they will drop again. That is a huge increase in prices though. I plan on checking daily for flights in January and when it gets under $900 I will take it.
-
I have found a good deal with NWA out of the Twin Cities for $811.00 US in early December. This is not cash and miles so you earn approx 18000 miles roundtrip. Bad thing is I cannot get away then and have to look for deals in January. Right now the price in Jan is approx $1100 for the same flight. Again I am hoping something good comes along. I will keep checking everyday and jump on the first deal under $850 that I can find.

Shopping for knock off purses in Thailand
kikc69 replied to ramster's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I had to pick up a knock off purse when I was in Pattaya. Looked all over for the brand (I think it was Yves St Laurent or some famous brand that they all want in the US.) Anyway I could not find them anywhere. I went into a shop on Beach Rd and the girl asked what I was looking for. I told her and she took me to the back where they have them stashed and hidden. Seems the law does not allow them to legally sell them there. So if you cannot find what you are looking for ask in one of the the stores and they may have it. As far as bringing knockoffs back to the US I was told by a customs agent when I came through that you are only allowed one knock off item. (one purse, one watch etc.) I had three coach purses at the time but he let me go with them. Go to the US Customs website and it explains what amounts you can bring in. It also depends on whether the agent lets you bring in extras or not. Also the last time I came back in July my bags were not checked at all so I could have brought back a dozen. But then if they are not listed on your declaration and you get caught you could be fined. Hope this helps a little. -
Best Overall Hotel Close to the Action ??????
kikc69 replied to mrstein's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I stayed at Residence Garden last time and really liked it a lot. Two pools, guest friendly. Food was only so so. It can be a hassle getting back and forth to the action but not bad. The important thing to me is that they are suites so when my TG of the day is sleeping in I can go out into the other room and watch tv or read. Does anyone know of any other places, near the action that have nice suites with seperate rooms. The price of the RG is not bad at 1350 baht. Thanks for any help.
