I read the Sydney Morning Herald online edition on a daily basis. There has been a lot of talk about the world cup lately. In years gone by “soccer” was considered as a minor sport only, played by immigrants. All the Australian papers would rave on about was Rugby League, Rugby Union and Australian Rules football. In this morning’s edition the SMH wrote about the world cup mostly. The funniest part was when they spoke about American football and “proper” football “. It just about made my day. It is quite obvious that the media in all countries around the globe now seem to recognise that “proper football” is the most powerful and most popular sport ever. Trying to ignore that fact would send a lot of the media empires bankrupt. Klinsmann was all right, but my German all-time favourites are Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, Lothar Matthäus, Uwe Seeler, the complete team from the 1954 World Cup and probably hundreds of other players as well. Cheers

Shame he killed himself.

In defence of Jürgen Klinsmann, just showing what a great player he was.

Saintly Mrs Gonzo was smart enough to have a good sleep last night instead of watching the poor games shown. She seems to know more about football than I do. One thing is for sure, if it would not have been for her two years ago, I would be a cripple now or dead. Going for a piss at night should never be a problem. Slipping on wet tiles can be.That what happened to me in broad daylight coming back from the pool. Shit happens, but I am now back in near mint condition, except for not being able to go to sleep from all the coffee I drank to watch the football for the last few days.

I was just as annoyed after watching the video as you were, so I thought stupidly I might as well share it. I am sorry for wasting four minutes of your life.
-
Watch this must see video clip. I just found it on Youtube.
-
If you are tired, make sure you don't slip on the wet tiles and break your neck, like I did two years ago.
-
No, I think his name was Jerkoff.
-
It will be more exiting tonight, when I can watch the Aussies beat the Dutch in the 11PM game.
-
The Russkies just made it 1:1, so I won't fall asleep again with a cup of coffee in my hand.

I nearly fell asleep during the Brazil - Mexico game with a cup of coffee in my hand. I must be developing a tolerance against coffee. Mexico's goalie, Ochoa, denied a weak Brazil several times. With a bit of luck Mexico have could have won. O:O the match ended. It's nearly halftime in a so far goalless Russia-Korea game, another boring game. I must be the last person here still watching, hoping for another Müller-Pepe incident. BTW, Real Madrid's Pepe has always been a shit stirring cunt. 0:0 it is at half time between Russia and South Korea.

Belgium won 2:1 and now it's a one hour wait for the Brazil-Mexico game. I would like to see Mexico win, but unfortunately I doubt that will happen. As a matter of interest, Jerome Boateng, Germany's left back yesterday, who more or less cancelled out Rinaldo, one of the biggest cheaters and divers of them all, is a half brother to Kevin Prince Boateng, who played for Ghana against the winning USA team. Jerome Boateng was born in Germany, started playing for Herta Berlin and then Hamburg before being transferred to Manchester City for 10 Mill quid in 2010. In 2011 Bayern Munich bought him back for 12 Million. Jerome has been a stalwart defender for Bayern and Germany ever since. I am not sure if Kevin Prince Boateng, his Ghana half brother, is still playing for Schalke 04 in Germany. He was brought on in the game against the USA in the 58th minute yesterday as a substitute.
-
Again, apologies to all Belgian football supporters. Belgium just scored again and are leading 2:1 with only a few minutes to go.
-
What a boring affair this Algeria-Belgium game is, similar to the Nigeria - Iran 0:0 rubbish yesterday. Apologies to the Belgians and other team supporters. I must be getting jaded or was spoiled with the Germany and USA wins yesterday. Having said that, Belgium just scored a great goal to make it 1:1 against Algeria.
-
atlas2 mate, I had my first good sleep for a few days and a mate woke me a couple of minutes ago, to remind me to watch the Belgium - Algeria game. I told him early this afternoon I was only interested in the Mexico-Brazil game starting at 2AM. I could have done with a bit more sleep, but never mind. I watched your video clip about the Germany- Argentina final and it made me feel a bit depressed. In 1990 I was still relatively young and saw the final with different eyes. I was then jubilant about (West) Germany winning the WC. I still think Klinsmann was a great player and later a great coach for Germany and now for the USA. Algeria just scored a goal from a penalty, so I better watch the game.
-
This is incredible. After Ghana equalized, the USA scored again in the 86th minute. Well done USA. You won with guts and determination. This is also great for soccer, football or whatever you want to call it in general. :thumbup
-
It was a great goal all right scored by Dempsey and the fastest goal in the competition (1st min). The USA had a few more chances as well. The American goalie made a few good saves. The little bit the USA lacks in technical skills, they make up with great physical strength and speed. They have Ghana rattled. Ghana will be dangerous in the second half and the USA must keep on attacking. It could be costly, if they tried to hang on to the 1: 0 lead. I hope the USA wins.

Now, lets put things into perspective. The Haka and shagging sheep are part of Kiwi culture. Having said that, I hope I don't ever meet face to face with any New Zealand All Black player.
-
I speak English reasonably well, but at times I am a bit limited in my understanding of English, as it is not my first language. If there was not one iota of sarcasm in your post, then I sincerely apologize. Now let us get ready for the all important USA - Ghana game, which will start in another 30 minutes, time enough for another cup of coffee. Cheers
-
Now don't be sarcastic. Like I said before, there is only one WC every four years and it's over after one month. Never mind the 5 AM games. I worked shift work for 33 years and was on call 24 hours a day. That was a lot tougher than having to stay up for a game of football. I will be watching the Nigeria - Iran game now. There is no point in trying to go to sleep for a couple of hours until the USA-Ghana game.
-
Bad luck if you rooted for Portugal. I will be rooting for your country, when the USA plays Ghana at 5 AM Thailand time.
-
Fair enough, if Pepe head butted Müller he deserved to be red carded. Germany winning today was fine, but I am more concerned about the extent of Mats Hummels injury. They need players like him to progress much further. I was surprised how well Mesmet Özil played today . He has been a disappointment for Arsenal after he transferred from Real Madrid for 44 Mill. Euros.
-
I am thrilled indeed. Germany were the better side by a country mile. I wonder what Pepe said to Müller after he gave him a smack in the mouth to get sent off? The game is not over yet. I remember Germany playing Sweden last year in a qualifier and leading 4 to nil. The match ended in a 4: 4 draw.
-
Please, don't put the mockers on Germany.
-
Shit, that reminds me I have an appointment at 8AM at Toyota tomorrow morning to have my little Vios serviced. I have to watch Germany loose at 11 PM tonight against Ronaldo and his Portuguese teammates and I want to see the USA beat Ghana in the 5AM game tomorrow morning. It will be another sleepless night and I hope I don't fall asleep behind the steering wheel when driving the car to Toyota on Sukhumvit. Three cups of coffee early in the morning might help me to stay awake.I am glad there is only a World Cup every four years.
