  1. Your opening a shop on Sept 1st. But don't know what your opening. Sounds like a success story in the making. 5 x 5, are you sure you didn't just buy your own grave.
  2. Hi The Shannon to Heathrow route is actually a very profitable route for Aer Lingus. The problem is really with Heathrow slots, They are like gold dust. Very expensive to buy any new ones. Aer Lingus have X amount of slots and have them since the days when there were little flights, so were not as valuable as now. Currently the Irish Government have a veto on Aer Lingus selling any of the slots (don't want the family silver sold off) I'm suspicious of the move. I think they are moving them to Belfast only for the short term. This will give them a way around the selling of the slots. The I
  3. One mans good news is another mans bad news. The new slots from Belfast to Heathrow are currently the Shannon to Heathrow routes. Aer Lingus are planning to move the routes. This will have a lot of opposition and politicians will be under a lot of presure to put a stop to it, as it will result in a lot of business closures in the area if Heathrow is gone. Michael O'Leary of Ryanair (who recently bought a large stake in Aer Lingus) this morning called on the government to use their share of the ownership of the airline along with his to outvote the board of aer Lingus in order to stop the mov
  4. Hi Just to let any Irish members know that the online booking facility on the Etihad website is now available to book flights from Dublin to Bangkok via Abu Dhabi. This new route is due to commence in August of this year. Edit: Thanks Tom, I was writing from memory, I was in the site earlier today before writing the post, now ammended
  5. That's an awful long wait, don't think I'll be going with Etihad, altho they are supposed to be opening up an Irish route in August, will check flight times on that to see if they are linked well, as soon as they display on the site
  6. You ask about flights from BKK to Samui, but there is also another Airport near Pattaya called Utapao, about 40 minute drive and no crowds of people. Obviously if your based in BKK, then BKK airport is best, but if based in Pattaya then explore the Utapao option. Check it out on www.bangkokair.com
  7. And I suppose, just like that other American sport that has the "world series" what are the chances of the UFC ??? being all American only ??? I selected Rugby player from the list, having said that, an Irish Hurling Player would kick shit out of all the other 3. Size doesn't matter, a kick in the Bollix would drop a race horse as they say. I've witnessed some battles between Gaelic Football players and Aussie Football players on the field. But as every Irishman knows. The only Irishman that plays Gaelic Football, are does that can't Hurl (this doesn't mean puking) :-) :-)
  8. Heard this announced last week, checked the Etihad Site and no mention of it yet, not in the online booking facility and no fares posted. Suppose it will come shortly. If the prices are good and it's an evening or night flight I may use it, if not I'd prefer to go through Heathrow. It's handier for me to get to Heathrow than Dublin believe it or not. Gulf air currently have flights from ublin to BKK via Bahrain. I used this route in December and return January, was happy with the flights, especially seeing that I was bumbed up to Bus Class on the first leg of both flights. The plane from Dubl
  9. My Gripes in no particular order. 1. Bars that have welcome girls outside, who attract you, bring you to the bar and then vanish, she is then replaced by the resident Troll who appears from a cave under the bar. This practise is very shortsighted by barowners. They get the price of 1 drink off a customer, but then loses this customers business forever and also the custom of friends he will tell. I don't even look at the welcome girls anymore, instead I prefer to check out the girls that are behind the counter already. 2. Bars that continuously check your drink, by picking up your bottl
  10. I prefer to go direct. When I say direct I mean direct from Heathrow to Bangkok. I am not including the short flight from Ireland to UK. Stopping half way is irritating and find myself wandering about the airport waiting to get back on the plane or sitting next to the boarding gate until it opens. I prefer not to drink on the plane or at a stopover either. The onjly time I book a flight with a stopover is if the direct flights are too expensive, like flight last month
  11. Only slow downloads I have is when the topic has pics inserted, even then not so slow, then again I use work PC which is shit hot fast
  12. Depends on how energetic you are :-) :-) but seriously though, only a small issue, but very good hotel by far and large
  13. My first suggestion is to book a hotel fast, or else you won't get one. Hotels fill very quickly and you may find yourself caught out. Of the hotels you listed, I have stayed in the Sunshine. This has an ideal location on soi8 and is very near the action, but make sure you get a room in the new wing. Can't really comment on the other hotels
  14. I stayed there about 2 years ago, Liked the place very much. Two additions to your list. Beds tend to roll around the room, beds are on wheels. Can be difficult to get Baht Bus, most passing will not stop as they are going past. Other than that I really liked the place
  15. Flying Dec 24th is normally the cheapest price as you don't land til xmas day, if that's an option for you
  16. Call both the Airline and also the Airport/Airports you will be flying from. But to be sure, don't carry any hand luggage
  17. I can't belive I am doing this... My first ever holiday (a real holiday without visiting family), first ever overseas holiday and first time to Thailand/Pattaya. You are in trouble ;-) At the moment I have booked the flights and hotels. Staying in Bangkok for 3 nights before traveling down to Pattaya, arriving in Nov 10th. What hotels are you staying in, did you book it in a package holiday, if so they probably are not guest friendly But thats all I have planned for at the moment, as I have NO idea what the nightlife will be like. Sure I have read the forums, but trying to plan
  18. I think it's time to get a new dog. Any dog that can't hear or smell an intruder is worthless
  19. Hi Tom I have used both e-bookers and Travelbag before without incident. Does E-bookers have a history of poor service ??? I suppose i wouln't know about it until it actually happens. I was planning to book with them for Xmas this year, but now maybe not after "Pattaya-mad" experience and your above comment
  20. With your directions, I thought of the Grand Hotel as well. I stayed there before and checked out after the first night, it 's an awful kip
  21. Get a grip. Go back home and go to work, It's only all an illusion
  22. I have changed BA flights before and have always got them changed free when I do so in a Travel shop in Pattaya. i once rang BA before I travelled and was quoted a fee 150 to change ticket. Can't say it will be the same for all airlines, but I find it's cheaper to change when over there
  23. I can't comment on the car you were in, but on my pickup, there were 3 of us. 1 Large suitcase, 1 large rucksack and 2 fairly big gear bags, all went into the boot. I had a lady driver. Maybe he has a number of cars on the road
  24. I booked Mr Toom on the 13th April to pick me up at the airport and deliver me to Pattaya. I arrived at BKK airport came through imigration/customs and waiting outside was Mrs Toom ???(either his wife or business associate) with a sign with my name on it, we went downstairs to the carpark and into the car. Brought to Pattaya at a good speed, not too slow and not too fast. Delivered safe to my hotel and also had the half way stop for a smoke and a drink. I hate getting Meter Cabs these days, guys are crazy drivers who think they are in a stock car race. I give Mr Tooms service the Th
