  1. Over the years I have used Mr T, Mr Toom and a variety of taxis. I have stood in the queue and I have also walked one floor up and got a cab from the departures area. I have also used Bells on a number of occasions. Heres my take. 1. If you can use Bells and an extra 30 minutes is OK, then do so. 200baht door to door is unbeatable. 2. As Mr T at 1000 baht is the same as the best price I have ever been able to negotiate for a cab, why would I not use him? 3. Cabs can be OK but they can be a nightmare. They piss about going to their favourite garage for gas, take the non-motorways to sav
  2. I totally agree with you about the balcony hight as well as the booze issue. I would love to be able to ask the following question. How many people who fell off balconies were smokers? When I get back to the unit pissed at 3.00am I never use the balcony because I dont need to go out there. I would think that this is the riskiest time of day for accidents.
  3. Hi there. No problem. I ended up going back to the Sabai Inn. I was there last year and took a superior room for 990 baht. I like the location and the 4 pools across the road that I am free to use.
  4. Hi there Jack. 24 days. I relised a few years ago that I was a hotel sort of guy and needed the swimming pool, loungers and sun umbrellas! For me it is looking at places round the 1000 baht level and see whats going. I only mention this because if you have not got a plan then you end up looking through a dozen sites and hundreds of rooms. If you have a focus its much easier to keep an eye on whats available at what price.
  5. I have not stayed there but there is one thing that I am awre of and that is that there are some very good rooms available in the area for 1800 or less. I stayed at the LK Rennaisance for instance for I think about 1700 last year.
  6. Yes I sure did ask for opinions and I got them in spades. I will have a look at the place next month however and make my own mind up for future trips. There are seemingly only three negatives that people have bought up and its the walk, the size of standard rooms and on a more constant basis the thin walls and doors. All these however are well balanced by the reasonably price.
  7. Thanks to all who replied to this thread. I have decided to give it a miss until I go and have a look at it and perhaps a look at the rooms as well. I just want to check the walk from Second Road to the hotel at night to see what it is really like rather than relying on the other opinions. It is perhaps the only thing that put me off.
  8. The point surely is (from the Fathers behalf) is that a number of people died in this hotel without there being a post mortem resolution to what was the cause. Dad should be commended for trying to force some answers out of a system that seems either poorly equiped, corrupt or just apathetic.
  9. Thanks for setting me straight. I will be there 4 weeks today and leaving about the 15th so I guess that our paths wont cross this time.
  10. My thoughts exactly and not that flash to get back to at 3 in the morning. Would it not be sounder to book in some where for a week and go for a trip around and look before you leap? There is also the chance that you can negotiate one on one better.
  11. I think that this is a great idea. It could be tacky but for people away from home it is at the least where ANZACS can just focus their minds for a few minutes and if you have done that then the idea was a success. I wont be there but its also worth mentioning that their is a link between the Thai people who suffered dreadfully in the last war and the allied troops. I was lucky enought to spend an Armistice Day (November 11th) at Kanchanburi (spelling?) where there is the mythical-sort of, Bridge over the River Kwai and it was a great event with Aussies everywhere.
  12. Benji. I did get this response from Chaba. On Thu, Apr 21, 2011 Thank you for your prompt reply. Greatly appreciated but you did not advise on the in-room safe or do you have a security box at the reception? Dear sir Hi sir we have safe on room and at reception Please let me know sir Best regards Da I have also seen some photos of rooms with safes.
  13. OOPs sorry forgot to add John P but if you have been following this board for a while I suggest that you PM Bushcraft for the REAL DEAL!
  14. You managed to say in a few words what I believe is on many peoples minds. Well said and perhaps this might make sense to a number of people on a number of threads!
  15. If location is not important then surely your search should start in Naklua or Jomtien. There always seems to be great bargains in each end of the city.
  16. I am still looking for the perfect 1000 baht accommodation. Some months ago I bought up the subject of the Chaba Hut and it was shot down in flames. I am now lead to believe that this place has had a makeover and would welcome any recent comments. I was lucky enough to get a very good update from a boardie here and if anyone is really interested I will send them the details if they PM me. I would however like some other up to date comments if anyone has stayed there recently. The other place that I have been dealing with at the 1200 mark (B/F included) is the Royal Palace in Soi 2.
  17. Martin raises a good point saying that some are bit and some are not. Here is a theory. As a youngster I had an ailment that affected my blood enough to stop me giving donations. I am almost never bitten or bothered by anything flying. I have been told that its the blood disorder that the insects don't like (smart little bastards). I wonder if in fact there are other ailments that we have in our life that turn insects off? Could be as simple as measles or chicken pox. Whatever, this is one persons response and perhaps it applies to others.
  18. I think that this was a good deal Thanks for the info
  19. Thanks for the good response. As a matter of interest: Did the room have a balcony? What price did you pay for it? I assume that you booked direct with hotel rather than go through Agoda or similar?
  20. Hi there guys and thanks so far. This thread has been far more amusing and confusing than I could have ever imagined. For anyone that is seriously considering this acconmmodation I will post here the reply that I got from the hotel. Having said this, I am still confused! Dear Teelack, Thank you for contacting us regarding your trip to Pattaya. Currently, we have both Smoking and Non-Smoking Standard & Deluxe Rooms available for the dates you requested. Please find below information regarding our room rates. Our rates are based on a survey of 20 comparable hotels in Pattaya and are
  21. Whoa! Thanks for the response guys. I have come to the conclusion that for my needs (A Word and Excell equivalent) that all I need is Open Office and begger all the issues with the problems noted here.
  22. Following Greg's comments about this place I have been looking into staying there rather than the Sabai. I have to say that so far I am impressed. Generally speaking the reviews are good and the only down side seems to be that the walls are a bit thin in places and if you have a noisy neighbour it could be an issue. Having said that for a stay of over 7 days you get one day free and this makes the tarrif of 999 plus 7% net out at 916 baht and this includes breakfast for 2. This is for a standard room. I wrote to them and within 12 hours had a complete personalised response from the Genera
  23. The only things that I have bought are a few dozen DVD's and music CD's however I would like some updated software such as an MS Office suite. On the basis that quite a few of the CD's and DVD's are faulty I am not sure if its a good idea. Perhaps a member who has bought and installed MS Office or similar could advise me on price and quality. Thanks
  24. I have been looking at various accommodation options for May/June and have to say that if you want a hotel with pool and restaurant that the Sabai group looks good to me. Agoda have rooms with breakfast for approx 1200 baht. I am however mindful of a recent poster here who felt that the Lodge was going down hill and was shabby. Has anyone else stayed in these places of late and have any feed back please?
  25. Thanks for the responses guys. One more please. I note that when I open PT with Chrome I get an automatic spell check but this has never happened with IE. Am I missing a setting on PT or IE or is Chrome just better?
