  1. Sunshine on soi 8 is a good choice. Low season bargain stay for 14 nights pay for 10. Think of the nite life area as a rectangle and your in the middle. Baht bus is easy to use and will take you to Walking Street or Big C on soi 2 for 10 baht. Stop in at the Alamo Bar on soi 8 and say hello to Gary the owner. Tell him Denny said hi. He might let you buy him a drink.
  2. Read the Rio topic in the off topic section and you might want to book this package. http://dir.travelzoo.com/Vacations.asp?int...ry=59&id=187292
  3. From Nana you can catch the Sky-Train to Eckamai Station and the bus station is right there. Buy a ticket to Pattaya for 90 baht and the bus is clearly marked. It leaves every 30 minutes. Depending on traffic it takes two hours and it doesn't make many stops. Usually no problem getting a seat on the next bus. Except during holidays then the bus terminal looks like the last helicopter out of Saigon.
  4. Damn if they have Tiger draft at the mini bar in the room, I might just change hotels. Tiger draft, mmmmmm good.
  5. Theres three seasons in LOS, hot, damn hot and fucking damn hot. Guess which one your in. Bring extra shirts. I was in Thailand last June/July and it was hotter in Philly then BKK. I'm coming back again this summer to enjoy the cooler weather/
  6. Thai has announced new non stop service from LAX to BKK. Service to start late this year.
  7. Hippie, This topic is for the guy who has never been to Pattaya and is looking for a somewhat reliable service that knows their way around Pattaya. For the guy who's been here a few times taxi service works well.
  8. When you arrange for a driver to pick you up, it's always a good idea to have "plan b" as many of these services are run by one guy and they can be hit or miss. Email the guy on the day you leave to remind him your coming. I do the same with my hotel. I'm not saying double book but you may have to consider taking a taxi with the hassles that may be involved with a driver who tells you he knows Pattaya but you find out later he doesn't. Most times you won't have a problem but be prepared.
  9. Mr Churchill, It seems you have difficulty understanding the written word. When I tell someone to check the reliable car and driver topic and that many services are listed. I'm telling him to look thru the topic and make his own decision and I add that I've used Alex and I've been satisfied but you seem to miss the part where I tell him others have not been happy. I don't have to spell it out for the guy asking help as I figure he will read the topic and hopefully he will understand English better then you do.
  10. I don't know if you were drinking when you posted this but you left something out Check the meeting section on this forum and look for reliable car and driver topic. Many services are listed...... You cut and paste part of the answer and you leave out that many services are listed. Trying to leave the impression Alex is the only way to get to Pattaya. Alex is but one way to get to Pattaya. You never stayed at Sky-Top how do you know what it's like or not like. To many guys have stayed there and liked it and thought it was good value for the money. Then again your animosity you have toward me shows thru all your post especially when you follow me from thread to thread.
  11. Mr Churchill, What is your problem with what I recommend? I don't go after you from thread to thread. Are you familiar with the term "thread fucking". Stop it. For the guy who been to Pattaya a couple of times and knows his way around the taxi from the airport works well. Most drivers don't speak English and don't know there way around Pattaya. jgarty38, Sky-Top is an inexpensive hotel with AC, TV, fridge and in room safe for 450 and up. Clean and one block from Beach Road. Good value for the money. www.skytoppattaya.com
  12. www.pattayarentaroom.com Yensabai condo good place to stay and cheap. Good location. I've stayed there and once again good value for the money.Check out www.thaivisa.com
  13. Check the meeting section on this forum and look for reliable car and driver topic. Many services are listed and I've used Alex many times and have been pleased with his service. Then again other guys have not been happy. Hotels near the Beach. High end is Marriott. Flipper lodge is medium priced and Sky-Top is low end. I've stayed at each of the hotels and they are good value for the money. www.marriott.com www.flippergroup.com www.skytoppattaya.com
  14. I like the Eastiny also. Soi 8 is a bit noisy but I like the location enough to overlook it. Good value for the money.
  15. THE ASIAN HUB OF ASIAN HUBS Bangkok News Reviewtion The following is a list of hubs that Thailand is or aspires too, mentioned by politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen and others of some importance at least in their own mind. 1. 16. Looks like it brand new and they have excellent rates. Stay there and give us a report. Many guys on this forum are interested in cheap rooms.
  17. Once again it always interesting that a guy will go thru all the time and effort to hunt down a previous post from long ago. Sky-Top was owned by a different guy back then and I had one problem, count it, one problem with a staff member and you want to run with it as if it's a daily occurrence. Like I said and others have stated, friendly staff. Maybe you missed that statement from others or do you just choose to ignore positive comments? Seems like it. Soi 6 less then two minutes. Tops and BigC less then 10 minute walk. Your right 2nd Road has traffic but it's one block from the beach. Cheap and nasty furnishings and synthetic sheets. Your kidding right? What do you expect at this price point? Teak wood dresser? Mahogany bed board? Silk drapes? Get real. The place has AC, TV and fridge, in room safe and it's clean. You have way to much time on your hands and it shows.
  18. Martini and davetahiland both make good points about CASH FLOW. That's one thing you have and a bar owner with a good location might make a good business partner. Do you have any experience in business? How old are you and are you young enough to go back home and make more money? FWIW teaching English as a second language is alot different then teaching in elementary school. TEXT&TALK SCHOOL has a location in Pattaya. Good teachers, good course, it may be worth your wile to go and talk to them. Having the ability to earn 20 to 40K baht per month with a legal work permit may help you stay.
  19. Any time a guy finds another cheap hotel we all benefit. Keep the websites coming. IMHO Sky-Top is a cheap hotel that fits my needs. For 450 to 600 baht per night you get a room that's clean the AC, TV and fridge works. Internet café and it's close to Soi 6 and BigC (take that Mike For a guy to walk in and say "For me, there was absolutely nothing about the place worth recommending". One wonders if he actually was there and if he was did he have his eyes open or does his animosity towards me color his opinion? One wonders? I almost forgot in room safe. How many cheap hotels offer this? Rooms cost $11.25USD per night or 8 Euros give or take. I think some guys expectations at this price are unrealistic?
  20. You don't have enough money to buy a bar and operate it. You can live in Pattaya on 30K baht per month or you can move up north near Laos and live on less maybe 20K per month. What type of work do you plan on doing? Teaching English is one way to make money. Check out www.ajarn.com I've lived on 30K and it's doable and I didn't screw Beach Road skanks.
  21. During low season the Sunbeam Hotel, soi 8 and others have a stay 14 nights and pay for 10. These look to be walk up rates. The longer your stay the better the discounts. I always ask to speak to the manager on duty as he's the one with the authority to offer discounts.
  22. I don't know what % of members get a taxi from Pattaya to the airport at 800 baht plus tolls. I do know one and that's me.
  23. Winston_Churchill, I take it English is not your native language as you seem to have a great deal of difficulty understanding what I've written. With regards to Alex you state he's totally unreliable. In this instance your flat out WRONG if he's totally unreliable that means he never shows up. He's always show up for me and many others. Be careful what you write. I suggested he look in the reliable car and driver section and use one of the services recommend. Services as it is used is "plural" that means many services are recommended. I then went on and recommended Alex as I and many others have been satisfied with his service but I put in a caveat that some guys were not satisfied. foggiepete wrote that he has never been to Pattaya and you seem to ignore or don't understand this fact and taking a taxi in a strange and unknown country with a driver who most likely speaks almost no English and is unfamiliar with Pattaya may not be the way to go. You should stop and think before you put your foot in your mouth with ill advised advice........
  24. Since this is the first time in LOS I would suspect his comfort level will be higher with a car service where the driver is familiar with Pattaya. Then again some guys like dealing with the unknown after a long flight. Personally I'd rather get in a car and be driven straight to my hotel with no drama. For 99.9% who has been to Pattaya before. Taxi can work real well. Unless you run into a driver who has gambling debts and kills you.
  25. Prices are way cheaper in the US and no problems plugging them in to Thai electrical systems as the power supply senses the voltage.
