  1. Okay, here's what happened. Yesterday, I woke up with a sharp pain centered in the corner of my left shoulder blade. I spent the day trying to get a full breath due to the pain of breathing. Did a search on the symptom and found https://www.verywell.com/shoulder-blade-pain-possible-causes-and-diagnosis-2248942 I was hoping it was the usual cause, bad sleep position, some strain, but it didn't get any better overnight, so early this morning, we called Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and tried to make an appointment. On describing the symptoms (shoulder pain, shortness of breath), they told me to go straight to Emergency. I was wheeled into Emergency, hooked up to EKG, blood test taken, usual are-you-alive tests taken, chest Xray taken, and waited for a physician. Physician #1 said EKG was clear, but it might be an embolism (clot) in the lungs, requiring a CT scan. Off to the CT scan (ka-ching!) and then to CCU (Cardiac Care Unit?), a small room with lots of instruments. I had told them, once they had ruled out heart problem that I would be happy with a regular room if I had to spend the night. Once CCU had been mentioned (considerably more expensive), they could not be dissuaded from putting me in one (ka-ching). Physician #2 came, a cardiologist, and he also said he didn't think it was heart or circulation related...good news. Then he said, he wanted a "chest specialist" to talk to me. Basically, he passed the buck. I asked him why I was in CCU if it wasn't heart related...something about my oxygen level. After several hours watching my oxygen level and getting antsy to get out of there since it clearly wasn't life-threatening, physician #3, a rehabilitation doctor, arrived. He had me go thru some movements and concluded that it was an outbreak of herpes and that within a day or two, lesions would appear. I couldn't suppress my stunned disbelief in that diagnosis, and told him he must be kidding. Out of all the possible causes, why on earth would he put it on herpes? A while later, physician #4, the "chest specialist", came in and said he thought it was a muscle strain of some sort. Well that made sense since they had ruled out everything else. At this point, I was urging them to disconnect me and bring me my clothes because I wasn't going to spend a night there. I made a guess that the bill would be about 50K baht. I was low. I forgot about all the little additional things they add..it was 58K. For that I got (1) Peace of mind that it's not heart related and deadly (2) a small prescription of tramadol which is a not bad pain reliever (3) so much saline IV drip I was pissing like a race horse and 3 followup appointments...like hell! Tramadol + hot water bottle = relief Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  2. That's the best way!
  3. That's not something I have noticed. Perhaps you need to refresh your cache or even delete your pattayatalk cache.
  4. If you are reading this, you have successfully reached the new server. Please report any observed problems in this thread.
  5. Working on server transfer. If successful, it's a financial load off my chest.

  6. The thought is appreciated but it's just not my style. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  7. I have gotten the "team" together, and it looks like we'll do the switch tomorrow morning (2 Nov) local Thai time. The server will be offline for a while (hour or two). We will switch the DNS (IP address lookup) to the new server during that time. You will get no responses for a while or FORUM OFFLINE messages until we activate the copied databases. If the forum continues to not respond or timeout, do a REFRESH on your browser window to re-acquire the IP address of the forum. If that doesn't work, and if you are running Windows, open a command prompt in administrative mode and type ipconfig /flushdns
  8. How did they scan the phone? Sounds like BitCoin or something scanning a QR code for a SEND transaction. I read the promptpay description (read it before and still can't see how it makes life more convenient for non-governmental fund transfers). Prior to Promptpay, I could already transfer by phone number within Bangkok Bank accounts. Maybe it allows the same across banks? I just wish AndroidPay worked here. I used it on my visit to the states, and it was great.
  9. Yes, along with a few of his cronies. You got the idea though..it's B2B only.
  10. I've signed up for PromptPay with Bangkok Bank simply because they kept spamming me at the ATM every time I withdrew cash. What is it and what can I use it for? My impression is that it is for government payments/receipts, but I haven't looked further than that. Can it be used for person to person payments? They are pushing it so hard, it's either a government mandated program, or they are bound to make big commissions on its use (or both).
  11. In collaboration with a couple of other helpful BMs, the server will be switched over to another platform in the next two weeks. The switch day depends to a great extent on all parties not being hungover and awake of the day of the switch, including yours truly When the switch occurs, I will announce it beforehand in this section, but the warning will be brief, as I need to shut down the current server to synchronize files and databases to the new server. Once that is done, we will switch to the new server without losing any messages. So, be aware that at some time in the next two weeks, it could be a day, or a week, or two weeks, as I said, depending on the availability of the collaborators, we will be offline for a while.
  12. Some good suggestions, though I am not optimistic about selling advertising...the board presence doesn't command a high price, and dealing with advertisers, especially Pattaya business people (not you, of course) is a frustrating and thankless task. I also agree that charging users or soliciting/begging for donations is not something I would like to do. It looks like we will very shortly move to a lower cost server...stay tuned. It will happen before Nov 15, when my next server payment is due.
  13. Says a lot about the State Department's accounting and management of income. I mean, who in the world uses bank drafts only these days? I can see them not taking BitCoin, but really do they trust their users so little that they need an instrument like a bank draft? Sigh. IMHO they are showing themselves to be more primitive that Thailand. Big surprise given 8 hears of Demo appointments
  14. Seems the problem finally made it into the media, though they really don't describe the scope...not just departures and arrivals, but the entire immigration database was offline. http://lovepattayathailand.com/immigration-system-thousands-tourist-arrivalsdepartures-not-recorded/

  17. Yes, it's up today...and checked that with Chrome too Some people on facebook are saying it's because the head of immigration was changed...I think it's simply an IT screwup as usual.
  18. My wife likes their Thai food, and that's unusual for her to like restaurant Thai food. So I'd say it's pretty good. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

  20. It's unfortunate it's happening now... We should be on the new server by mid-month Nov, and will have a whole new set of (temporary) problems, I fear.
  21. Yikes! I got the message when I posted that, but the post went through.
  22. Recently, the forum has been responding with a single page saying only "service unavailable" in the upper left of the page. I have a ticket in to the server support group and am awaiting resolution. I have gotten around it by going back to the main page and trying again. Perhaps a REFRESH page works too. It's too soon to tell.
  23. I just got back from Immigration Jomtien. What a mad house, packed so it was a challenge to get thru the crowd of standing people to the retirement extension desk. After the pretty clerk had checked all my documentation, she told me to come back Thursday (2 days from now). I asked why, and she told me their internet network was down and they couldn't issue extensions until it was up, hopefully by Thursday. Based on that, it's possible their entire immigration network is broken, including our 90 reporting. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  24. Check it out now...was down an hour ago.
