If you waste my time talking to me about board stuff and your grievances, you will probably get suspended, because I just don't have time to deal with individual complaints. If you want to stop posting, up to you. I am not going to lift a finger to "delete your account", as I have the other two. Keep posting like this and I will find the time to suspend you, however. I already said you're on probation, because I'm not convinced you aren't running a game here. bruiser, you ask a good question. Here's my position. If it gets to the point that some poster/userid gets suspended (I don't use the BAN feature because it's a hassle, so a problem poster is just suspended from the board for a couple of decades instead), that userid is gone from the board. I have suspended people for a short time, just to give them a vacation from the board, in the hopes that when they come back, they will be less disruptive on their return. It could be a week or a month, but seldom more. These are sometimes posters who are going through a rough time in their lives and lately feel the need to get attention by being a twat. They might have been good or humorous contributors in the past, but have gotten out of control. A vacation of a week or a month sometimes gives them a chance to reflect on what got them the short term suspension. Now, for those who get the big kahuna, a 2 decade suspension -- that means that poster and that posting personality is gone. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the person making the posts. It's the culmination of a generally long period of being disruptive and argumentative with the board membership or the board admin (me) to the point where I say "Enough". So, suppose someone comes back under another userid, and it's abundantly clear it's someone who has been suspended for long time before. I don't really care. I evaluate what the new userid is doing, not who the person was or how they behaved under a previous userid. I try my best to detach the person from the poster. I am moderating the posts. If someone has been suspended before, and I know they have come back, I'm okay with that...until they start exhibiting the same behavior or some form of disruptive behavior again as a poster. Chances are, in that case, that the first warning will result in a long suspension. I hope that helps clear up the situation on this board for you.

Guys, I don't see the problem here with the OP at all. Certainly not enough to be making claims of fraud or deception. dontcha, the 1200 baht quote was from Don Muang to Pattaya. That is what Mr. T would charge as well. Notice he said "old airport". The website shows 900b PTY-SBoom and 1000b SBoom-PTY, exactly the same rates as Mr. T. Whether it is Mr. T who answers the phone or not, those are his rates, so I don't see where the word SCAM is appropriate without something to back it up. Please realize that in Thailand, making such claims about a business without proof can lead to a libel charge. So, where's the proof?

I'm ready to deinstall their backup software, because it tells me (after an hour or so) that the destination drive (490GB free) does not have enough space to backup the source drive (240GB). My initial reaction is that it is a piece of shit.

After clearing sufficient space on my backup drive by deleting all my old backups, I just started the COMODO Backup program for a full backup of a 250G drive and, according to the status dialog, it says it will be done in another 23 days. I think that's just because we're getting to know each other

This particular 500G drive uses a standard USB cable (the kind with a small end and a big end). Those can be found all over the place. I think you may have a false sense of security if she were to figure that out. Ironically, I'm glad to hear others have apparently had, or take measures to prevent, the same problem.

Both the above solutions are encryption programs, but has anyone a suggestion for a full/incremental automatic backup program that contains encryption as well? I found a product yesterday called COMODO BACKUP. Here is a review that describes it. I'm amazed that the program apparently is free, and as I read it, it's free even if you use their network storage. There's got to be a catch. Has anyone used COMODO Backup? I'm trying it out now. More than once, my friend.

I'd be interested if any landlords have kept the same rent/key money or even lowered their demands due to the reduced revenue most of the bars are taking during these times. I'm pretty sure they all plan for a % increase over the last lease period. And if the current leaseholder pulls out, there will likely be someone else to jump in with grand schemes of making big money in Pattaya. In this day and age, the only ones guaranteed to make money are the landlords.

I have a 500G USB drive that I have been using to make automatic backups of my main laptop. Knowing her curiosity about the contents of my previous computers, I have been careful not to give my TGF access to my laptop in any way. When I go away from the computer, even for a short trip to the toilet, I lock the computer. I've been doing this for a year at least. A few months ago, on a trip the US, I bought a Western Digital 500GB USB disk and started making automatic backups. I thought nothing of the security aspects of doing this. In fact, until today, I thought all my photo storage was secure, since my laptop was carefully secured from anyone else accessing it. I think you can see where this is going. Today, she asked me to help her scan a document using my alternate desktop system. She has access to this system, and I don't keep anything on it that I wouldn't want her to see. When I attempted to scan the document, the scan program said the C: disk was full. I was amazed, since I hardly put anything on there, but sure enough 245G was used, and 5M was free. So, I started looking through the various directories to find where all the space was. To my surprise, it was under her Documents folder. I started drilling down and discovered pictures and videos from my laptop that I had never put there. I also found some files that were not on my laptop that I had made to take to the bar for the video music system. Well, it turns out she had cleverly moved my USB backup disk to the other computer and copied its contents to her account on the desktop computer. She had loaded 240G of information from every USB stick and my USB backup disk. I was dumbfounded at the simplicity of what she had done, and how my attempts at securing my privacy had been so easily defeated. Luckily there wasn't anything there that incited her to take the lover's revenge while I slept. And, conveniently, we had been separated for a few months, so any pictures could be explained perhaps as being from that time. So, especially for you expats that have a live in who just might be smarter than you think, be aware of this big security hole. I thought of putting this in the expat section, but instead, it's in the Technical section, because I am seeking a solution. Is there a way to password protect my backup disk and still use a backup program? Now I am using the simple WD Backup program that came with the Western Digital drive, but it doesn't have any security/password options. Alternate backup program suggestions would be appreciated...free if possible, cheap if necessary.

That's what the owner was telling me. But then there was the issue of my steak and my GF's steak, both ordered medium rare, and hers was cooked the way I would expect, and mine was undercooked. Also, the previous time I had gone there, my steak was cooked medium rare without any surprises. BTW, it was a good steak.

I think lovedog's description is quite apt. What distinguishes this from a purchase price is that it is a recurring amount (that can increase at lease end) that is paid whenever a lease commences. It really is prepaid non-refundable (and non-fixed) rent, paid each time you re-sign a lease. Now, key money is not a requirement for all leases. Many landlords still charge a monthly full rental amount for the lease term without key money being required. Key money is just a way for the landlord to put all the risk on you while reaping the rewards of your going out of business before the lease ends. He still keeps a large proportion of the rental that would have been paid had you made it to the end of the lease period.

Good point. I made the mistake of eating a whole tin of them after finishing the night at FLB. Noticing I had a bad case of fish breath, I brushed my teeth, gargled a couple of times, ate a mint, and then went into the bedroom and tried to get amorous with my missus. As soon as I started to kiss her she complained about the fish smell on my breath. The odor doesn't stay down very well. I doubt it would ever come out of your undies.
