I made it over there last night to say goodbye to Pat, and the place was packed. There were a half dozen full dining tables out front, the bar was SRO, there was a Thai comedy show, traditional Thai dancing, coyote dancers...a real extravaganza. And then there was the Irish stew! It was worth the long wait to finally try it. Sadly, Pat makes it, so that was the last for a while. Good party!

I have a need for a second hand video camera to hook up to an outside TV showing the FLB band area. It needs to have a tripod mount (screw hole for a tripod) which most do, TV out cable interface. Very basic functionality. I don't care what media it records on, since it will only be used to send images to the outside TV, and not to record. It has to have the capability to turn off the status display on the output monitor (no battery symbol, space used, and other information that they like to put in the LCD portion of the camera). It also has to have a way to defeat the standby timeout or switch off feature, since I want to leave it on for hours at a time. I know some of you have upgraded your video cameras, so if you have one just sitting around, I'd be willing to pay a second hand price for it if it suits my needs. Reply here or via PM.

The Vault is a popular location near Marine Plaza (and WS). I can't recall the name, but Evil Penevil wrote about a place just up Beach Road near MacDonalds that had a nice penthouse suite. nohlsson1 stayed there on his last trip. I heard it's pretty nice. What's your budget? Nova Platinum is nice I hear, a short walk to WS on Pratumnak. And Secrets or Galaxy Suites very near WS. mykl -- is that what the is for?

Regarding the THB93,744/ sq.m in Pattaya, I agree as well. That's way higher than the average condo sqm rate. Maybe that's what they (Raimon) think they should be getting, but that's not what they are selling for...at least, not on average, especially if they are including switching demand from beachfront to more affordable urban properties Maybe LordFlash could give us his take on this.

Yes, they used those flimsy looking wood scaffolds to put them up. I agree about not having them on the balcony though. It's just that your normal servicing of air con units doesn't usually require rapelling skills, as far as I know. It just seems that over the long term, the cost of maintenance might be higher because of the specialized equipment required. I'll wait a few months and see if I can see a unit being serviced. Probably read about it in the Pattaya newspapers too.

If so, it would seem that the cost of servicing a unit would be rather high (and dangerous).

Does anyone have an idea how the air conditioning units are serviced on this building? Seems like it might be difficult. I haven't noticed other buildings being like this, but then I rarely look.

It just occurred to me that you're talking about the service I have at my rural home in the USA. It's from Verizon Broadband, and was the only internet choice available, aside from dialup, in the area. The Verizon network has been online for several years there, and the speeds are impressive if you are close enough to the mobile highspeed EVDO-Rev A antenna. Otherwise it drops to GPRS speeds. The EVDO-RevA speeds quoted by Verizon are considerably less than 3.1Mbps Now, what's this got to do with your question? Well, if they are saying 3.1Mbps and an established USA operating network is saying 600K to 1.4M, then the Thai provider might be fudging. There is a Hutch store on Pattaya Tai, near Tuk.Com, as I recall. Why don't you drop by there and ask them for some more information? Personally, I use DTAC Edge/GPRS when I am out and about, both for my phone and my laptop. It's not too bad for browsing, and I think I pay 99b for 20hours. It's just a backup connection, not my main one, however.

If you encounter a recent topic that is closed, please post it's url in this thread. I accidentally closed two topics, I think. It's complicated, but it has to do with a strange quirk of the moderator interface that I encountered today. It allowed me to select some topics, but wouldn't allow me to clear the selection. In attempting to clear the selection, I inadvertantly closed two topics, but I can't figure out which ones they are. No, I am not drunk!

The LK Renn is very nice, from what I hear, though it might be outside your stated price range. However, all the LK hotels will have the same guest policy (1 free, pay for the excess). As far as I know, RG doesn't do that...and if I am wrong, lots of BMs can confirm their policy, one way or the other. Never heard of the LK Legend...but, as before, if it is an LK property, their standard rules will probably apply. BTW, the Mantra Pura, while nice, is expensive and very far out of the way. You'd probably need to use their tuk tuk to get to a convenient baht bus route (it's at 3rd Road and Pattaya North). In summary, of the ones you mention, I'd guess the RG would fit your requirements best.

As so earthily put by Fondles, you might not want to live in a condo or apartment with your dog. However, you may already be doing that back home, so it's up to you, your schedule and the dog's training. The main problem is many apartment, condo and even home renters are not thrilled about dogs, so you'd definitely need to make that part of your interview/search options. I'm also moving this to the accommodations section.
