  1. Here's Pattaya Beach today...not a lot of room to lay down due to the high tide during the day. Of course, the tides change and some days there is lots of beach. By the way, this picture was taken about 4pm.
  2. I have several Thai bank accounts and they all pay interest, but you have to have money in the account to get it.
  3. Click on the IMG button and enter the URL.
  4. Don't worry about it. Everyone brings in lots of electronics for personal use.
  5. As I recall, the USDA New York steak at the Sizzler was about 600 baht ($15 USD) and was tough and tasteless.
  6. They upgraded the system last week and added Sophon Cable + UBC Satellite combination...or something like that. They claim they have 60+ channels now. I guess that's a lot. I haven't checked their claim, however.
  7. There is no joiner fee for up to 2 people in the room (they say), but the third person will possibly get a 300B charge if they catch them. Regarding the outside massage surcharge, the story is now that there will be no surcharge until their own in-house spa opens. After that, they are evaluating what to do.
  8. I posted some pics in a thread about a month ago...search my posts to look for it. I'm using an Ipaq right now, so I don't have multiple windows to go check where the post is, sorry. LK is nice, but it has a couple of design problems and construction deficiencies that make it somewhat annoying...hot water in showers disappears sporadicly, shower tubs not level and drain to the floor, rather than tub drain. Worst of all, now that they are building a spa, they have started charging outside massage services (like Eden Massage ) a 100% fee to provide resident a massage in their room...for example , if you have a foot massage (200b) the hotel wants 200b in addition. They charge massage girl, but guess who ends up paying ? Fucking outrageous!
  9. I am definitely playing, assuming my flight back from the US isn't delayed or cancelled on Nov 3. Shirt size - XL Official Handicap - how about a 28? I assume that number would be for a beginner player. EMAIL - martin@flbbar.com
  10. I enjoy eating the t-bone steak at the Right Spot, just down Walking St from the FLB (going towards Tony's). It's flavorful, actually is a t-bone, and is generally savory. I have some friends who swear by their Kobe steak as well.
  11. Count me in too.
  12. You can delete a post but not a topic (which is what you were trying to do).

    Nightmarch

And where might that be? FYI, FLB was repainted over the closure July 21/22.
  14. Yes, I've stayed at the Club Bamboo. The bungalows are very nicely done, the beds are nice, the pool is quite nice too. The problem is that you probably have to get a taxi (or rent a motorbike) to get anywhere else in town...it's a long way from Pattaya though, since it's in Patong on Phuket Island.
  15. No problem talking about cats, except it's not most folks' thing.
  16. The LK Metropole has a decent gym with cardio machines and weights.
  17. I checked ThaiVisa, and they have a topic on the subject of how the Thais describe "loss of face"...it sort of helps ThaiVisa loss of face
  18. Interesting question and subject. I read and hear farangs talking about the concept of "face" regarding Thai's all the time, but I have never been able to find a Thai who could respond to the question of "what does it mean to lose face?" or if I describe a situation where we say a Thai loses face, such as a jilted bg for another bg in the same bar, I ask "how would you describe that in Thai?" and the answer I get is "nawy jai" ... meaning the girl feels minimized or smaller heart. Not surprising...and similar to any race in the same situation. If I give the example of a Thai person being confronted by a farang who disrespects them in front of their peers or coworkers (what we usually describe as "causing a Thai to lose face"), the answer is the person would be "jai rawn"...well, that means angry. Big surprise. So, what I am wondering is, since we all have been talking about this face thing, what the heck is the Thai description of it, if it exists? You'd think if it was such an important concept to Thais as we think, they'd have a ready description of it and an expression for it. To date, I have not found it. Has anyone else?
  19. You are not yet a member. It's possible your membership request got lost somewhere. Could you reapply again using an email address from your country of origin (not hotmail, yahoo, etc)?
  20. You are a member of the "other" forum already!!!!

    Nightmarch

Reading your paragraph gives me the impression that you think Pete is the author of Nightmarch. That is not the case. Pete reposts it from another source as a courtesy to the board.
  22. Hub, you raise a good point about the pictures. The topics have been made available to everyone. Feel free to show them to anyone you care to.
  23. Thanks, Ben. That was a beautiful tribute. It brought tears to my eyes.
  24. Here is a photo of the bus we hired for transporting staff and friends to the funeral Here is the sign for the wake/party for Om on Wednesday
  25. And, for those many many people who placed donations in the collection boxes, we add our thanks. I personally saw Hilly and Mrs Hilly, LadyDrinkKing, doghaus (by proxy)...any others, as I find out, I'll update this message.
