  1. I can't think of anything that wouldn't.
  2. LOL...don't blame them..the stuff is perfect in those few moments after Auld Lang Syne or whatever is playing, the fireworks are going off, the champagne is being drunk, and perfect strangers are hugging.... It's out of place outside of that short time. Naturally, the Thais cater to the childish idiots who want to carry on by spraying passers by on the streets till all hours. Why not? They can buy a box of spray for 25 baht each and sell them for 50+ baht each all night to the drunken assholes
  3. One can always hope that as demand goes down, prices will drop rather than supply. What are their alternatives? Even at prices 5 years ago, they are making more than most entry level low education jobs...tax free and paid daily too.
  4. Yes, but it closed...now it's open, of course, but it did close.
  5. Think it might have been John Mellencamp..here's a write up of the whole program for the evening..just a day ago in D.C. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/watch-kevin-spacey-perform-piano-man-with-billy-joel-20150103 From a mobile
  6. Only one I know about that's closed is up in Naklua, Leo's Blues Bar...and, of course Blues Factory. From a mobile
  7. Billy Joel receives the Gershwin Prize for 2014 at the Library of Congress...this is a performance of Piano Man, hosted by Kevin Spacey....as one person who viewed this said, "Is there anything Keven Spacey can't do?"
  8. I have to echo those sentiments. For all but a few, the bar/gogo/restaurant businesses have been stressful to own. I think 2014 was probably the worst year, even for the most successful businesses, in memory. This XMAS Eve and NYE were the first times I was able to find a motorbike parking place in Marine Plaza on those nights since I've been here. Prior years, all the parking areas and adjacent streets were too packed with motorbikes to find a parking place without cruising for one. That's just a measure of the drop off in visitor numbers. I can't see any improvement on the horizon for the next year either...for the business owners, that is. As a customer, I think things are going swimmingly and likely to get better...less Russians, less Chinese, less bars, more girls per bar, lower prices in an attempt to lure customers...it could happen
  9. LOL, WTTB! From a mobile
  10. No problem with doing it all night if it's kept between mates, but as you can see from the photos and video I posted, these characters were out of line, even by your more permissive accepting definition of "just a bit of fun", wouldn't you agree?
  11. I'd say there's a time for spraying string or foam..once the clock strikes midnight, up to a short time after. That's expected, acceptable, and in the holiday spirit. It's just like Songkran where the assholes think spraying water all night is acceptable because they're protected by their mates. Sundown should be the stopping time, save for one night. Same thing to me when the spraying continues into the next hours after midnight. From a mobile
  12. davethailand, I take your advice and informed opinion very seriously since you are an acknowledged perpetrator of this behavior and its chief apologist : However, just because it happens, it has been happening, and even, seemingly sane and well-behaved individuals have participated in it, doesn't prevent those of us who say it detracts from the Pattaya experience and the NYE festivities from calling it rude, childish, and inconsiderate behavior engaged in by groups of wannabe thugs. Anyone who does it should get a slap from someone who is capable of following through on that, but they'd best be in a bigger, tougher group, I suppose.
  13. Are you condoning what those guys pictured in the OP and later video were doing? From a mobile
  14. It started about 11:30 pm and went on for hours after midnight.FLB always had spray cans to use just at midnight, and that was it. No more, no strangers, just a minute at most. What I saw last night, and what Dave says is normal and to be expected was way beyond anything I've seen in a decade of New Year's Eves on Walking Street. From a mobile
  15. Dave, as an admitted perpetrator of this "ancient" tradition, who admits to occasionally spraying strangers and innocent passers by, but only when backed up by a group of your friends, your advice is certainly expert. From a mobile
  16. If you don't get it, I have nothing to add. Maybe if you get some shot in your eyes or the eyes of your evening companion you will get it. I consider such behavior reprehensible..that's just my opinion.
  17. I opened the same topic on Facebook and there are some defenders of the practice who say it's normal and to be expected on NYE, and if I don't like it, I should stay away from WS or leave Thailand. I don't know why I should like it when a group of assholes use their being in a group to do something they would not do if they didn't have backup from their friends. It's cowardly bullying of passers by. BTW, I personally never got sprayed, but watched many others getting it, mostly women, as they went by, or guys getting in the back as they passed...once again, cowardly behavior. Those who support it and say it's all in good fun disappoint me greatly.
  18. About 20m away sitting at a table trying not to get sprayed!
  19. Here's a video of them in action...
  20. Looks like a good turnout! Best of luck!
  21. Some real assholes on WS last night..near Insomnia. There were dozens of vendors selling the foam spray bottles on the street last night, and some ignorant inconsiderate childish "adults" who, from what I observed, either came from the middle east or south asia, used their inherent assholeness to spray passers-by, mostly defenseless women, with foam spray..they kept replenishing their spray with another 50 baht to the vendor who stood next to them with 3 full boxes of spray cans to sell. There were lots of these rude types all over WS last night...same as the types who think it's fun to violate the Songkran time rules and throw water on people after sunset or rent a water truck to hose down motorcyclists with strong streams of water to see if they can get them to crash. The last picture is there because...well...just because Oh yeah, now I know why the last pic is there...don't look at the girl..look at the boxes of spray cans for sale!

Maybe if you had read the rules to Movie Quiz 10 you wouldn't be so petulant about it.

Please show us the links to the many repeats...or even one.
  24. I was going to 7-11, and the missus said "Go to Family Mart..no commission there". So, off to the corner FM where I held up the bill to the cashier, and she promptly took it and started the process of getting it into the bill pay system. She scanned it 3 or 4 times and sad "Cannot" which had my heart falling, then scanned once more and started typing. After a few minutes (seems the system is a bit slow), my total rang up on the display...2781 for a 2771 bill. She said "2771". Hmm, okay I thought. I gave her 3000 baht and she returned change for 2771...so, no commission! Family Mart rules!! Saved 10 baht. Now I can afford the baht bus to Walking St tonight
  25. the https://eztv.it link still works for me.
