  1. Crazy Dave's!
  2. In the gogos, you're looking at a minimum of 90 baht (rare) to a typical 110-120 baht! Cheaper to drink or, at least, order draft
  3. A good schnitzel, esp jaeger style, is the best way to cook pork...it's very popular, but also very hard to find a good version here in Pattaya.
  4. Help! I'm being kidnapped to Ubon!

They've already asked for a ransom, 2 packets of dried squid and 4 limes. We're having a whip round, but it's not looking good. Have you seen the price of limes these days?.

  5. If there is a quota (not all have them), and they don't make the quota, their salary is cut by some amount..depending on their arrangement with the bar. Their drink commissions for an evening are typically given to them in cash at the end of each night or when they are barfined, unless they are 10 day workers and have not yet reached their quota.
  6. Profit on a single lady drink is usually less than or very close to that on a customer drink because of the commission given for each drink. But a gogo can count on some customers buying more lady drinks than their own drinks.
  7. Okay...keep it civil and on topic here.
  8. This is a good article on the Russian economy...it doesn't look good for them, but Putin is holding fast on his Ukrainian expansionist moves. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2015/01/27/remember-russia-its-still-doomed/ I like this quote...
  9. Got some smiles out of this one.
  10. I liked the part about the 4'7" Jesus...and then the tiny Noah... But I think people were most offended by the Panda segue
  11. My experience is that an honest measure mixed drink had the highest profit margin...based on the typically higher price. Any messing with the measures or brand is pure stupidity and greed.
  12. Try driving in Italy, especially Rome, and then come talk about Thai drivers LOL
  13. The tamper free tops are great, but not all spirits have them.
  14. Really TMI, Gabor!
  15. Agreed, it's stupid for management to support or condone it...even though your numbers not very accurate. The bigger risk is that the staff/bartenders are putting the premium stuff in their own bottles, watering down the bar's bottles, and then consuming the good stuff or selling it outside the bar. As I recall, a decent vodka runs between 700-900 baht, where a rotgut vodka typically sold at happy hours in many bars, will run 250-350 bottle...even so, the cost of a good vodka shot is say, 30b, and a rotgut vodka shot is 10b...but with the prices they are charging, and the risk of their reputation going to hell for a 20b cheat...it's short sighted to say the least. But then again, the long view isn't well practiced around here.
  16. Many thanks to several board members who have heeded the call. It looks like I will soon have a supply of Altoids to last me to the summer at least.... Cheers. Closing the thread lest anyone else decide to bring any.
  17. Well, of course you would. First sign of insanity is when everyone else is crazy.
  18. Yes, smiling Immigration officers? Where do they keep them when I get here?
  19. Last time I bought Apcalis (maybe a year ago), I think it was 400b/4 pills
  20. I'm using TRUE cable internet and it works just fine. lanzalad has some explanation for that where he says it's because I have IPTV subscription as well (which I do ... 100b extra) in case the internet goes down.

    12Call vs DTAC

I started with DTAC 10 years ago, then switched to TRUE, which was quite good IMHO. DTAC seems to have a lot of dead spots for mobile data on Walking Street, where I spend a lot of my time, especially all up Soi Diamond. TRUE was much better for coverage around Pattaya and even up in Issan. Also, TRUE had/has a fairly extensive WIFI network around Pattaya and Jomtien that worked on the basis of my IMEI rather than logging in, so whenever I was near a strong enough TRUE WIFI node, I had an internet connection (no need to log in). Though TRUE's coverage was better than my experience with DTAC, I still found some dead spots for mobile data around WS. A couple of my crawl mates both had 1-2-Call, and did have signals...also TRUE was spotty in my home for about a month, and I was getting pissed off at their slow response to fixing that. So, last year, I switched to AIS and I've been generally quite happy with it...though I have had dead periods where I had EMERGENCY CALL ONLY for an hour or so occasionally. Long and short...I prefer AIS and TRUE over DTAC, since I seldom make voice calls and rely on mobile data for communications. Packages seem to be about the same price, so that's not really an issue.
  22. I'd lay money it's not Harris...wac doesn't have any angle except to get people to stop investing in fiat monies...he's a gold bug.
  23. There are variations in shot sizes depending on the country.... If you want strong shots, go to Albania, Bulgaria, Russia, Poland, Kazakhstan and several others where the shots are 50ml..nearly 2 oz! I believe Thailand shots are typically 25 ml for a single shot...
  24. I'm hoping this is a case of bad reporting, because it does contradict itself with regard to entertainment venues...on the one hand it says they can operate according to their license (and there is no minimum starting time at 9pm, so that's an error right there). On the other hand, they say they have to close at midnight and can only operate for 5 hours...though I can't see where that 5 hours starts and ends if they supposedly had to start at 9pm and close at midnight...that implies a 7pm start, but why 7pm? Why not 5pm, since that's when legal sales can begin...in other words, the article is crap and someone with a brain will come along and report it correctly...I hope.
  25. http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/restriction-liquor-sale-time-takes-effect-today I am confused here at the bolded comments that seem to contradict each other from one paragraph to the next. The Chicken Little's are going to come out in force on this one... I personally can't see this as being an accurate interpretation of the law...if it is, the ruling junta has completely lost their marbles.
