  1. Shuggy, I'm not real sure if the conditions will be as bad as you think, I travel in Dec-Jan so I will post a report on my return. If the conditions are not great I understand what you say about paying a few hundred bucks and flying singapore or thai if it only works out to be a few hundred bucks. The main reasons I decided to give them a try was that at Christmas it worked out probably $700au or more cheaper (20,000 baht) and also just for the sake of trying, if it is no good I won't bother again. I look forward to someone posting a report soon. onelilley
  2. Two times I have had a driver who drives way too fast, and way too close, to the car in front of me going to pattaya. Both times (different drivers) I have asked him to slow down and stay further away from the car in front, both times my wish was granted with apologies. I arrived safe both times feeling more relaxed. Just tell them your wishes and I'm sure they are happy to follow. I think most drivers feel they need to get you there quickly for you to be happy with them. For me this is not so. onelilley
  3. I stayed in a superior room between Christmas and early New year last year, on the recommendations of fellow boardies. Cost was 1650Bht per night, any other time of year i think it is about 850 Bht. I found the hotel good value for money for this time of year. I liked the location for a change to the walking street end of town. Used the pool across the road no problems. If you book, request an outside facing room, inner rooms are quite dark. Also the only downside really was occasionally being woken up because the hall ways are quite noisy, this time of year is party time for lots of
  4. Sossn, Booked a peak season flight mel-bkk (late Dec-late Jan) for just over $900au return, they are more expensive now for that time, competitive with Thai Air etc. To me this was a great deal as Thai Air etc are asking around $1700au Friends booked early March 07' for not much more than $600 au return. Not sure what the A340 will be like for a 9+ hour trip but I am am more than willing to endure a few hours of discomfort to save so much money. last year i paid $1450 return on Thai over peak season and that that was a good deal. I will post a report on Jetstar in late Jan
  5. Aussielongboat, You would suggest incorrectly. I am travelling Nov 1st - November 11th $841au all taxes included on Thai Airways. I get this sort of deal each year from travel.com.au usually they have very cheap deals but oct-Nov seems the cheapest. Zuji.com.au is similar but usually about $100au more expensive. Go to travel.com.au and check it out yourself if you are a doubter. I just had a look and it is currently $845au as taxes change. onelilley Just looked at the Thai air web site, they now have that period for the same price. The price has dropped dramatically on the
  6. Thanks for the info, should be a good watch. onelilley
  7. stevoman, In Australia I find travel.com.au and zuji.com.au by far the best for cheap flights. I booked for November @ $840au with Thai Air compared to $1700au on the Thai web site. I know my friend booked late October on zuji.co.nz flying from AKL - BKK with Thai he tells me it was just under $1200nz compared to over $2000 on the Thai web site. In my experince from Australia travel.com.au is slightly cheaper than zuji.com.au but there isn't a great deal of difference. I don't think travel.com.au has a sister site for nz but zuji does. If zuji.co.nz doesn't help look up travel.
  8. Thanks pattaya pete, the link you posted gives me this web page http://www.pattayapages.com/accomodation/reviews.html This link will open a new web page and continues to tell me that the page I am trying to find is unavailable. I have cleared my cookies and history incase i had a bug but have had no luck, i will continue trying. onelilley
  9. The link I am refering to is in the same section as "technical problems or questions", they are both in the main area refered to as "open to everyone forum". Thanks for any help.
  10. I too have stayed at Areca, good rooms, pools, guest friendly etc. There is plenty happening in the area, short walk to most other areas's walking st etc, plenty of baht buses if needed. atsiam.com offer a small discount on room rates and are a lot more secure to send credit card details. Only draw back is atsiam.com require full payment at time of booking, to me this is no draw back as you don't have a big bill to pay at the end of your trip. I'm sure residence gardens has its advantages as well, but i prefer the soi diana area. Hope this helps. onelilley.
  11. Just wondering why the link to 'Hotel reviews" doesn't work anymore? Thanks in advance. onelilley
  12. Just wondering if there is any more information on this hotel, last post March 2006. Any information good or bad would be appreciated. Any other good room recommendations for this area would be appreciated if Eastiny Hotel Soi 7 is not great. Thanks in advance. onelilley.
  13. Howdy all, Booked a Jetstar flight Mel-Bkk last week $930au 28th December. This is significantly lower than all other major airlines here in Australia, as much as or even greater than 50% cheaper. It will be a no frills service but I am not a first class flyer anyway. This flight seems to be one of a very few for the Christmas New Year period so will probably sell out fast, and will no doubt get more expensive as seats get fewer. Jetstar is reported to start flying Mel-Bkk November 24th and has very cheap fares at different times through out the year, may be worth looking at if you
  14. The link in the post a few above this one is for LK Manison, this of course is different to LK Suites that is being discussed in this topic, be aware of this if you are thinking of booking. Never stayed at LK Mansion or LK Suites but stayed a couple of nights at LK Metrople when Areca Lodge wasn't available, it was nice but for better value Areca lodge is far better and better bathrooms, pools, breakfast etc. Hope this helps a little. onelilley.
  15. Just thought I'd let any interested travellers from Melbourne or Sydney know that Thai Airways has return fares to Bangkok from now until early December for AU$841 including taxes. I have only found these low fares on travel.com.au and slightly higher on lastminute.com.au both are the same company but travel.com.au has them slightly lower. Zuji and various other sites have them for approx. AU$100 more expensive. I have booked mine for early November and they are still available. Happy travelling.
  16. Monkeyman, I was wondering the same thing? Travelled quite a bit and have never heard the term "Condotel". Maybe a combination of Hotel and Condominiums???
  17. I'm looking at booking a room in Soi 13, after doing a search I found that there is not much information about the new White House Condotel, has anyone stayed there? My main concern is wanting to know if it is girl friendly, and decent value at about 1500 bht. Would Sandy Springs be better value? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me, and thanks for all the great info in general, looking forward to contributing my experiences early next year.
