Sabai Inn mini bar question
onelilley replied to newbie34's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Newbie34, On check in ask for an outward facing room, the internal rooms get no natural light and noise from both passageways either side. The mini bar is reasonably priced, as most are in Thailand, nothing like most I have found here in Australia or the western world for that matter in my travels. I always do as all others have said, stock up from 7-11. Overall a good hotel, even a few cuties at reception. onelilley. -
Thanks for the links. I also keep my eye on travel.com.au they have some really cheap flights at times. I flew Jetstar at Christmas time and found them ok, would only use them if Thai or Singapore didn't have any deal which is normally the case at Christmas. onelilley.

neilri2001, Thanks for the info, sounds like a nice place to stay, I enjoy that part of town. onelilley.

The following is an e-mail I finally received back from Airasia regarding international transfers, not sure if Bangkok Air will have the same rules. Dear Sir, First and foremost, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your kind choosing Thai Air Asia. We would like to announce that all flights domestic and international of Thai Air Asia will operate at The Suvanabhumi Airport. There is a combined domestic and international terminal at Suvanabhumi Airport. Our Thai Air Asia check-in counters is located on 4th floor, Row E. Check-in counters open 2 hours b

yselmike, I too e-mailed Airasia and have not had a response. In some countries if you land and depart in a certain time, 1 day usually, the departure tax doesn't need to be paid, I don't suppose this exists in Thailand? Either way it saves me a lot of money transfering to and flying with Airasia and I have plenty of time, so having to cough up the 700baht won't be a great drama, just thought it would save a lot of mucking around not having to go through all the procedures of getting out and back in again. Any opinions would be appreciated. onelilley.

stinger_sd, I cannot comment on whether or not it is appropriate on this board, I guess that is a question for MM. I will say you firstly need to check that you can transfer points or buy a ticket in someone elses name depending on which airline you are talking about. I know here in Australia Qantas and a few others only allow transfers between family members. Which airline are you talking about and do they allow point transfers? onelilley.

yselmike, Thanks for your reply, I hope someone can help you with your question. onelilley.

Sorry if this hijacks your question yselmike , I was going to ask the same question regarding Airasia. I am flying into BKK from Melbourne Australia with Thai Airways; I am then flying onto Macau from BKK with Airasia. Can you please explain to me, if I can collect my luggage and check in with Airasia in the international transfer area of BKK, or do I need to go through the arrival area and then check in at the departure area and pay the departure tax. I hope one post can answer our two questions. Any help appreciated. onelilley.

I have flown Thai many times from Australia and have always found them good value for money. My trip is just over 9 hours and economy is more than comfotable enough for that amount of time. I would recommend joining their frequent flyer program "Royal Orchid Plus", costs nothing and you have a better chance of getting the seat you want when you book in. Also you can choose your seat if you book through their website, although i have found cheaper fares through discount websites at various times. onelilley.

Salifast, I have been researching the same topic, I have a flight booked at Christmas from Australia to BKK return using my flyer miles and thought I might do a little side trip to Hong Kong once I arrive at BKK. The return flight to Hong Kong with Thai or any major airline is going to be well over $550au which is far too expensive. I have found Airasia fly between BKK and Macau, they are very cheap compared to the major airlines, around the $200au return if not cheaper depending on flight times. They do only book 8 months in advance so I have to wait a bit before I can get a price but

Stevoman, You may want to consider flying via Australia, Air New Zealand and Virgin (I think) have been running return specials, from Melbourne anyway. If you could get a cheap return flight to Sydney or Melbourne the fares onto BKK with Thai, Singapore and especially Jetstar are quite cheap. The main airlines run cheap fares through travel.com.au and zuji.com.au but some of those only get you half miles. I have found if the fares are cheap on those two sites eventually the same price will come up on the Thai web site, booking through them directly has always got me full points. Je

Thai air frequent flyer blockout dates?
onelilley replied to onelilley's topic in Airline Discussion
I just thought i'd report on the above. I was in the city of Melbourne yesterday and had luck purchasing 2,000 points which gave me the 45,000 points for a return trip mel-bkk, to my almost disbelief I could use my free flight for a christmas trip, which from Australia is never less than $1500au compared to about $900au all other times of the year. The lady in the office was extremely helpful and told me it is better to get in asap for a Christmas trip as there is no block out period but only minimum seats on some flights, I had no worries getting exactly the flights I wanted. So I sug -
stevoman, I am also a silver level rop member, as far as I can tell it is only used to identify your status level, I think all airlines have status levels. With Thai you are considered to be a mid level traveller at silver level, something like 10,000 miles in the first calander year, and a certain amount keeps you at that level, I cannot see any stand out extras you get for being at that level but was also upgraded on a return trip at no cost of points. One trip with a few points gets you a crappy paper card, 10,000 silver and 50,000 gold, with gold you automatically get the use of their

Thai air frequent flyer blockout dates?
onelilley replied to onelilley's topic in Airline Discussion
Thanks Jacko, The problem with Thai is you cannot access international reward flights via the internet, you have to call them. I probably didn't explain that I did ring and could buy points no problem, they couldn't however tell me before i had the required 45,000 points for a return trip whether or not I would be able to get a seat when I wanted one. Also, they only do return trips, so requesting a one way flight was useless. I guess I will just take a punt, buy the points and see how i go. If I fail at getting my flights when I want to go I will just fly Jetstar at a saving o -
Thai air frequent flyer blockout dates?
onelilley replied to onelilley's topic in Airline Discussion
Tengotodo, Thanks for your help. stevoman, It costs 45,000 points in economy Mel-Bkk with Thai. onelilley. -
I am a regular traveler on Thai Airways and almost have enough points for a return trip from Mel-Bkk. I was thinking of purchasing a few more points to give me the total i need to make this free trip. I cannot travel this year again until Christmas and purchasing the last few points is my only option to have enough. My question is, do airlines or Thai in particular block out dates that frequent flyer points can be used? I am asking this as Christmas is obviously the airlines busiest time as in Australia it is our main holiday period and airfares are always more expensive. I have se

www.Jetstarasia.com They fly direct from Jakarta to Bangkok, not sure on prices at present but I'm sure they will be cheap but a good service. onelilley.

Flown Airasia many times and never had any problem except they are quite often late. If you have a connecting flight, comong or going, especially international give yourself plenty of time for connections. This is possible as Airasia have many flights. onelilley.

Just received an e-mail advertising British Airways to Bangkok and Singapore, seems very reasonable prices for British Airways. I think the catch is two people must travel but not 100% sure. Click on the follwing link or copy and paste. http://www.britishairways.com/travel/au_lc...s2/public/en_au Hope someone finds it of use, sales ends Feb 19th and for travel up to the end of June. onelilley

Adam, Great to have met you on my recent trip you run a first class bar. Thanks for all the effort you put into the bar crawls, I highly recommend them to everyone. I travel alone so it is a great way to see many many different places and bars I otherwise wouldn't on my own. Also the bm's I met were all great people, all out for fun and willing to share their experiences and time. I had the pleasure of spending time with Joy2, what a great girl, very go lucky and always out for a laugh. I am always amazed that thai girls really never show their true beauty in photos ( that is not c

reservations made via internet
onelilley replied to Tengotodo's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Tengotodo, I have always found areca reply almost straight away, so not sure why the delay. You may want to try www.atsiam.com I now book through them as they seem to be slightly cheaper than the hotel itself, in areca's case anyway. Some people don't like paying in advance when they make a reservation, which you have to with atsiam. If you have fixed dates and flights which i always do i personally cannot see the problem. I really think it is better than sending a deposit via credit card number on an e-mail, plus it is one expense covered before i leave home, thus leaving me with noth -
Nice hotel in Phuket (not Patong) and Krabi wanted
onelilley replied to Odense's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Odense, trying something different last November I took my regular thai lady to phuket, we stayed at the "Woraburi Phuket Resort & Spa" Karon beach. I booked through atsiam.com room was 2400baht. Nice hotel, pool and food etc. Not sure how expensive it is around this time but you may want to check it out if you are still searching. Karon beach is very quiet, but that is what i was after, I will probably try Kata beach next time as that looked a nice beach also. onelilley. -
Just a short note to let you all know about my Jetstar experience. Flew Mel-Bkk 28th Dec and return Jan 18th. The difference in price from Thai or Singapore at that time of year for me was about $700 as I booked with Jetstar when they first went on sale. You do know you are flying with a budget airline, the food was crap so take your own, the service was extremely slow for drinks etc, and the personal dvd player didn't have much of interest on it for me, so I would avoid the food and player in future. On the flight home the last 3 rows of seats on the left side eg 56a 56b 6 seats i

Direct Taxi Service 1,200 baht to pattaya
onelilley replied to toom's topic in Meeting - Cost sharing
For those of you unsure about Mr Toom's service. I used Mr Toom twice in early November and cannot recommend him highly enough, his service is first class and drivers are polite and good drivers. First pick up was from BKK to Nana, it was my first visit to the new airport and didn't want to get messed around by taxis, driver was waiting on time and a great service. Second trip I gave Mr Toom two hours notice I was arriving at BKK from Phuket and I was wanting transport to Pattaya. Again his driver was there no problem, very safe driver, and great service. Thanks again Mr Toom I -
Davosity, Thanks for the report, it doesn't sound like it was too painful of a trip. Shuggy, I agree, with a bit of luck the extra competition will keep Thai, Singapore etc cheaper for longer through out the year and the difference in prices will be minimal. onelilley.
