  2. If you book business class you get a fast track immigration pass. There is no queue and you just walk straight through whilst there are queues for econonomy/coach. However, you still have to wait for your bags but these also come tend to come off first if you have booked business class. If you just pay for fast track immigration but travel economy your bag could be last off the plane in which case you are just paying to wait longer at the baggage carousel rather than in the immigration queue although you can get to the currency exchange desk first whilst you're waiting. I wouldn't pay for the priviledge but upto you.
  3. Where is an Aeon ATM in pattaya? And around the Nana to Soi Cowboy area of Bangkok if you know thanks?
  4. Removing trans fats will not affect the taste of the food but will stop thousands of people dying of heart disease. This is an improvement in the quality of the food as far as am I concerned and I think adding trans fats to foods should be completely banned. Adding crap to food to increase shelf life I can live with but after it is shown to be seriously damaging to health still adding it is not on. They have probably changed now before it is made illegal and/or they are sued.
  5. I don't understand the purpose of the 7/11 ding dong because the shops are so busy and well staffed no one is going to miss a customer coming in. It must be slow torture for the people who work there. Last time I was at Bangkok airport I looked around for the place to pay the airport tax and kept some baht to one side to pay it and then completey forgot about it. Only now I realise it has been abolished.
  6. It sounds disgusting and likely to hasten the onset of heart disease but I would imagine any place that does fish and chips and fried english breakfasts with black pudding on the menu would be able to put this together. Probably best to try an english run place because it might be difficult to explain this to a thai. Try the sportsman on Soi 13. Never heard of a beanie personally. Deep fried black pudding I could understand but with beans in there as well is hard to comprehend.

    Dilemma?

NHS dental treatment isn't expensive in the UK so I am not sure if this dilemma is real or imagined. A bog standard filling is likely to be less than £50 and if you can't afford £50 you would probably qualify for free treatment anyway. Emergency and out-of-hours NHS dental care will cost you £16.50. You will not have to pay for emergency or out-of-hours care if you’re entitled to free NHS dental treatment. NHS dental charges The three NHS charge bands are as follows: * Band 1: £16.50. This charge includes an examination, diagnosis and preventive advice. If necessary, it also includes X-rays, scale and polish and planning for further treatment. * Band 2: £45.60. This charge includes all the necessary treatment covered by the £16.50 charge, plus additional treatment, such as fillings, root canal treatment or extractions. * Band 3: £198. This charge includes all the necessary treatment that is covered by the £16.50 and £45.60 charges, plus more complex procedures, such as crowns, dentures and bridges. Whether you need urgent treatment or just a check-up, if you're having difficulty finding an NHS dentist, you can call the dental access helpline for your local primary care trust (PCT). In addition you can also: * Use the Find and choose services option on this site and do a postcode search for local dentists. You can also search for your local PCT to find the number of the dental access helpline. * Text 'dentist' to 64746 or 'NHSGO' from your mobile phone. We’ll send you up to three text messages with the results that are nearest to your location from the area where you need a dentist. Learn more about NHS Choices mobile. * Or call NHS Direct on 0845 4647. Shortages of NHS dental care exist in some places but NHS services are growing steadily and there is a continued NHS commitment to improving access. Independent patient survey figures published by the Department of Health in December 2010 show that, nationally, 59% of adults tried to get an NHS dental appointment in the last two years, and of these 93% were successful. The success rate was higher for shorter periods: 96% for 3 or 6 months; and 95% for 12 months.
  8. I don't believe a word of the German Tourist's story. Something fishy going on but I don't believe that tale.
  9. I do think you're being somewhat unfair to BigDUSA's entirely reasonable question about what you liked about the Eastiny Plaza Hotel and how much it cost. Surely, it would take as many keystrokes to say I liked this and it cost that as it would to call him an ignorant twit. And the additional information might lead to more suggestions which satisfy your price/likes criteria. For example if a location close to Soi 8 is an important factor to you then that narrows the choice down somewhat. If you're idea of a "good price" is 1200 baht per night or 3100 baht per night will further narrow down the choice and so on. Are you a standard room cheap charlie or an executive suite more luxurious sort of person? If you are not prepared to share information that might help others and yourself why would anyone want to assist you?
  10. I have been looking to book from Manchester and checking prices for the last month. I have just booked for January 2011 on Etihad for £622 which is the lowest I have found for good travel times - 15 hours one way. They seem to put prices up and down, up and down so you may get a better price if you keep checking.
  11. The only problem with the Kindle is that the most popular ebook file type - epub - which is the mp3 for ebooks are not compatable with the Kindle. They sell their own proprietary DRM'd file type that doesn't work on any other ebook readers. I wouldn't want to pay for an ebook what Amazon charges, I would rather buy a physical book from them. I have however bought one of the latest Sony ereaders Sony ebook which play epub files and has a touch screen unlike Kindle. The e-ink screen is easy on the eye and the font size adjustable. I download my ebooks from Demonoid for free and I have already downloaded more ebooks than I will ever read. You want the complete works of Bernard Cornwell, takes a few minutes to download and so on and on. Bestsellers or classics - all are easily available for free. Fortunately epub files are very small so they download rapidly as well. Somewhat off topic post but anyone who likes reading a lot and lives somewhere like Thailand where the book selection might be limited really needs to get an ebook reader. Really you do, trust me.
  12. I am looking to book for January or Febuary 2010 from Manchester but the prices are the highest I have ever seen at the moment. Maybe it is too early to book now and the prices will come down as we get closer to those dates. Dates for October and November seem ok so hopefully the prices will come down. Anyone see any cheap flights from the UK for those months please post em on here. Oddly prices to Manila are cheaper for the same dates. Usually Bangkok is cheaper, they all seem to be holding high prices, something has got to give otherwise it could be Angeles for me.
  13. Nowt wrong with the hostess called Chicken . Some people are too picky. Rooms look decent for 500bt also.

Anyone know who this Octopus has picked for the final? Holland or Spain?
  15. I think both England and the U.S.A will win their games and progress to the next round.
  16. Surely, it is a web browser like Internet Explorer, not a search engine. I have tried it. However, I normally use Firefox with adblocker. When I used chrome I could suddenly see millions of adverts all over the place that I hadn't seen for years. Chrome wont block adverts because that is how google make their money. Apart from that it looked ok and worked ok. In fact it is suggested the next release of Firefox may copy the look of chrome with tabs on top. Firefox 4 Personally, I think the flexibility of Firefox with all the available add ons make it the number one browser to use. And the firefox developers are just trying to make the best possible browser rather than having some other agenda or strategy motivating them. I will be sticking with it.
  17. When the Foreign Office is telling people not to travel to Bangkok then there is going to be some good prices coming up. Many people, maybe the majority, will have heard about the the recent trouble and just decide to go elsewhere. I would guess the people who have already been to Thailand will be more likely to put the recent trouble into perspective. Cheaper airfares bring em on!
  18. Same here. For some reason the prices have just shot up in the last day or two. I looked three days ago for the beginning of the November from Manchester. Prices available were £511.20 with Qatar and £527.60 with Etihad and many others with other airlines and/or slightly different prices/times were available. Today the cheapest I can find for the dates I was looking for is £606.60 with Etihad. Some airlines some to have completely withdrawn from the flight booking sites. Qatar is now showing a price which would be more suitable for business class rather than economy £1500+. Something a bit fishy going on. I checked for flights to Bangkok and Manila as well with various dates and everything seems to have gone up considerably. The airlines all seem to have put up their prices at the same. Hopefully they will come back down again. Maybe it is a glitch in the system - being Sunday - I will give it a week or so. I really don't fancy paying £600, £700 or even £800 for what was £480 - £530 a few days ago. Maybe, it will be Blackpool for me this year. On the bright side this could be the end of Pattaya lager lout - Thailand maybe getting that bit too expensive.
  19. I stayed at the Queen Vic and liked it but 2100 baht for the suite is over the top. For a room above a pub up four flights of stairs and no elevator or swimming pool or sea view it is crazy money.
  20. Why take a 10 minutes walk to Walking Street? Just jump on a Baht Bus.
  21. I don't know if it was a renovated room or not. It did have a glass shower stall so I assume it is. I just noticed there is a reflection of me taking the photo on the glass shower door.
  22. Here are a few photos of room 21 where I stayed for 800 baht a night. Nice room and good value in my opinion. All the usual stuff: electronic safe, air con, fan, DVD, fridge etc etc. Large shower area. No construction noise and a great location. As I said the only negatives for me were climbing the stairs which were a bitch and the water pressure was low out of the taps in the bathroom, although the shower was reasonable. The fire escape entrance around the back I liked because I could come and go as a please undisturbed, if I wanted to. However, people have different expections. For me it was good value at 800 baht, but for other people who knows. People don't seem to consider the price/quality equation. View from the window View from the balcony
  23. I stayed in a deluxe room on the 3rd floor which cost 800 baht a night. Room was good at that price with a balconey over soi 6. Only negatives for me were climbing the stairs which was a bitch and the water pressure was low out of the taps in the bathroom, although the shower was reasonable.
  24. No, I live in England. Thailand is the last place I would invest my money and I don't even know who owns the Lord Nelson. I stayed there that's all and thought your review was at odds with my experience. I usually stay at some of the places you mention like The Bella Villa Prima and Sabai Lodge. I decided to give a few cheaper places a go and was pleasantly surprised. Personally, room wise there really ain't that much difference between a 700 baht room and 1400baht room as far as I can see. I have got photos of the more expensive places and they don't look that much different: a bed, a TV etc etc. Just thought I would even things out a bit as I didn't think the place was a dump, I quite liked the place.
  25. C'mon pal you paid 700 baht. The rooms are good value for that price. My bathroom was ok. There was a plentiful supply of hot water and good water pressure. I stayed on the first floor which is nearer the street but noise was not a problem. The glass in the windows was no different than any other hotel as far as I could see and hear. Maybe you left the window open? To hear a conversation through a window in the street outside 3 floors below - you must have good hearing. Just damned weird. You think the hotel lies because they want to steal a coat hanger and an air freshner from you? Do you think the maid remembers all the crap she throws out when she cleans a room? Or which crap was in which room? C'mon pal, this is unreasonable. I paid the 1000baht deposit for a safe deposit box key, which I presume hotels charge to ensure they get the key back. When I left I gave my key back and they returned my 1000 baht. The fact that you have a key shows you are owed the deposit. Choose a hotel with a lift. I was fine on the first floor but I have stayed on the 4th floor at the Queen Vic and climbing those stairs was a pain in the arse. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but in my opinion the above complaints are unreasonable. I have paid considerably more for worst rooms in Pattaya. Scalawag, I would be interested to know which hotels you did like and how much you paid?
