  1. I have used this company a number of times, and its in real time, meaning you can book online, and get instant conformation, of your chosen hotel. Scroll the results, as the cheapest is not always the first. http://www.octopustravel.com thechairman18
  2. It sounds to me, that you have a problem, that you are running away from. What makes you think that going half way round the world, to a place you have never been to, with not a lot of money, staying in your room playing games on a computer will solve your problems? Regards thechairman18
  3. If you have a problem, at home, coming to Thailand, may not be the answer. By our posts, we are not trying to knock the stuffing out of you and your plans. All of us have had plans and ambitions, just like you, some of the times they have worked, sometimes they haven't. I presume living in Canada, you are able to make a decent living, but the wage rates in Thailand are peanuts, thats what makes it a good place for us. Trying to make a living in Thailand, I would imagine, is another matter. As I live in the UK, and only go to Thailand on holiday, I dont know about the legalities of liv
  4. I take it that you have not been to Thailand before, as you asked about visa's. I would say come for a month, you will get an Entry Permit stamped in you Passport, on arrival, which will allow you to stay for 30 days. Get yourself a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide, and backpack around. Travel agents are all over, and will help you with hotels, trains and transport. Have a week in Bangkok. Have a week in the North, Chang Mai/Chang Rai. Have a week on the West Coast, Phuket/Ko Samui. Finally a week in Pattaya, then back up to Bangkok, for your flight home. That would give you a very good in
  5. All this hype about the Bird Flu, only serves to keep the real bad news off the TV, and the front pages of our newspapers. How and when, are George Bush and Tony Blair going to sort out the mess that they have created , in Iraq? thechairman18
  6. Hi, You seem to know Pattaya, have you thought of the Lek Hotel on 2nd Road, nr Mike Shopping Mall. I stayed there a couple of weeks ago, you would have no trouble with the access from the street, lifts to all floors, restaurant, bar and swiming pool all on ground floor, A/c, in room safe, fridge, rooms cleaned every day, baht buses pass right outside, don't know about your bathroom/toilet query though. Pricewise, I paid 1000 baht per night without B/fast, and no guest fees, hope this might help, if this is within your budget. thechairman18
  7. Yep, have to agree with this post. Thats why, apart from your money, they dont hesitate " I come your loom". Its like going on a holiday for them, and getting paid. Nice double bed, no sleeping on the floor, A/c, hot water, mini bar, though not many take advantage there, and dont forget the TV, and b/fast. If you do get invited to "my loom", dont forget to take your shoes off, and if invited to eat with them , its impolite to refuse. thechairman18
  8. Did you mean 6000 per week or per month? Per week equals 850 baht per day, yes thats feasable. Per month equals 200 baht per day don't think thats feasable. I have seen rooms to let @ 200/400 per day, in the area bordered by Soi Diana/Soi Buakao near where Lolita's BJ bar is, which seems a "Brits" area. No idea what the rooms were like, but the property in that area looks fairly new. thechairman18
  9. Try www.skyscanner.net Its a Search Engine that searches other Search Engines, airlines, and online agents. or www.traveljungle.co.uk same, same. thechairman18
  10. George McCoy, is a sleze bag who publish's a paperback guide to the Sauna's and Massage Parlours in the UK. With the price of a "massage" ie straight sex, being anywhere from £40 (2800 baht) upwards for 30 minutes, plus "extras", OWO,CIM and A, etc, at £10/20 each, his guide is/was usefull. However, when you compare the costs in LOS to the UK, even a bad ST/LT, is no big deal. Also we all know that girls, bars, and Go Go's are here today, gone tomorrow, so it would be difficult to keep up to date. He's a sleze bag, because he gets a free shag at all the parlours he recommends in return
  11. All the above, plus a VERY open mind. I checked in at the airport, to fly home, in August just gone, and was wearing a neat casual shirt, and semi formal/Bermuda type shorts. At the check in, I didn't notice, as I don't speak Thai, but the girl must have been on the phone to her boss, who approached my to ask if I had any trousers. I couldn't believe that he was going to refuse to allow me on the plane, as I was incorrectly dressed. But he politly explained that if I had "trousers", he could upgrade me to Business class. My one and only pair of trousers, which I always take, "just in ca
  12. Thats right, and they booked Bob Hope when he was a young man, to open the new Airport. He hung on as long as he could, but he gave up in the end. Dont go in the water, fish fuck in it. thechairman18
  13. Hi Teelack, Reading your comments about the Lek, I take it that its not your cup of tea, eh? If you have a real gripe with the Lek, what is it? What you have said is about average for any hotel anywhere. Some aspects suit one person, but not another. I was in Miami, last year, and had never been to Thailand, but was given the card for the Lek, by an American, who thought it was fine. I booked for 2 nights in July just gone, and stayed for 5. I got a room without B/fast for 1000 per night, on the 6th floor I think, overlooking the car park of Mike shopping Mall. A large clean and tidy d
  14. Just to put this thread back on track, I've just been quoted by Airlinenetwork,£515 all in, from Manchester UK to Bangkok, 8th Feb 2006 returning 5th April £515 with BA. thechairman18
  15. Yep, That just about sums us Brits up, not like the good old US of A Airlines Look at their track record US airline Delta, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last week, plans to axe 9000 jobs and reduce its fleet by more than 100 planes to save £1.7bn.by the end of 2007. Its in the same boat as United Airlines, US Airways and Northwest Airlines. They are all hiding behind legislation to carry on flying. They're operating in protected markets, they're hoovering up public funds and still can't make a profit. Ye Ha. thechairman18
  16. Dont the Thai's try their best to make life simple for us? Try these sites, and search for Royal Palace and Royal Palace Twins, they seem cheaper than booking direct with the hotel. I stayed there in July, and it was full of Japanese, who were probably paying top whack. www.pattaya.thaihoteldiscount.com www.farangs.com thechairman18
  17. Try Diana Inn corner 2nd Road/Soi Diana stayed there, and going back for Christmas and New Year ( dianagrp@loxinfo.co.th ) Bay Breeze Soi Honey cheap but ask to see the room first Honey Inn Soi Honey, not stayed there Avoid Apex on 2nd Road, from what I've heard wouldn't stay there. Best thing as has been said, book anywhere for 2/3 nights, if its ok, extend if not have a look around. thechairman18
  18. Lek Hotel 2nd Road ( near Mike shopping mall ) Small Pool All you can eat B/fast 7am to 1pm yes 1pm 95 baht Guest friendly In room safe Central location Baht buses pass the door Approx 1000 baht/night ( b/fast not included ) Do a Google search and book direct thechairman18
  19. Hi, Thanks for all the replies, they have been most helpful (thats why I like this Forum). Marcortez, I've just ordered a Sim Card from the company you mentioned, so I should receive it in the next couple of days. I will arrive in Bangkok on the 5th Dec, and will be staying at the Diana Inn on 2nd Road, corner with Soi Diana, from the 19th Dec to 2nd Jan. This will be my third visit to LOS and Pattaya, and I hope to get around and visit some bars and try to put faces to names. Thanks again, sorry to have posted in the wrong section thechairman18
  20. SORRY I'VE POSTED IN THE WRONG SECTION I was over earlier this year,in Pattaya, and had my Mobile Cellphone with me. I am on Pay-as-you-go with the O2 network here in the UK, and found the call charges to Thailand and UK numbers quite expensive. I started to use internet cafe phones, which were cheaper, though inconvienient at times. I am coming over for a month at Christmas, and have had my phone "unblocked" in readiness. So, my question is, is it possible to buy a Thai Sim card at Bangkok Airport, as I may need to use it right away. I can get one in Bangkok itself, though I don't know
  21. I came home from Pattaya on 4th Aug 2005 ( thats this year !!! ) and they had only just started pile driving on the site.
  22. I stayed at Diana Inn on 2nd Road/corner with Soi Diana, and booked a package deal with Pakadee Travel, in Diana Inn. Mini bus at 730am, down to the ferry port, ferry across, mini bus to White Sand Beach, and stayed at Koh Ghang Kacha Resort, in a modern bungalow with A/C, hot water, tv, mini bar etc, right on the beach, and there by 130pm. I can recommend it, and the price was a lot cheaper than doing it myself. I had a TGF, but did notice a few FL's in the Night club on the beach, can't remember the name, but there's only one. There's a fair amount of bars/restraunts, and after Pattaya, i
  23. This is what the Areaca Lodge want for the period over Christmas and New Year. thechairman18
  24. I travelled Swiss, in July this year. Man-Zur-Bkk the flight window at Zurich was about 40 mins, and the transfer was very efficient, however they did hold the plane up to allow passengers who had been delayed on other flights to board. To be honest, I thought the seats were uncomfortable, the squab ( the part that supports your thighs ) was too short, to get down in the seat when you wanted to sleep. Coming back from Bkk, I got upgraded to Business Class, what a difference. I have never been "upgraded" before. Thinking about why I was upgraded, I was on my own, and was neatly dressed,
  25. Book the Arecalodge for 2 nights. Its a nice hotel, but over priced. So why would I say stay there, its slap bang in the centre of Pattaya, but in a quite spot, and a Baht but will take you to most places on your list. You can then work out where and what type/price of hotel you want. At this time of year, it "Kipper season", so no problem finding a hotel. thechairman18
