  1. If this is your first trip and you're bringing a wife, then Majestic suites. It's clean and not "in your face" sex. If you're single and this is your first trip, I'd recommend the Nana Plaza. It's 24/7 and the breakfast is really quite good. The bar/lounge onsite is great and of course you're directly across from NEP. The rooms are not that bad, really (older, to be sure). No in-room safe is the only drawback. I've stayed at the Majestic and found it was well-run and clean, but the rooms are very small.
  2. And let's not forget the direct flight, hot towels and free after dinner drinks - not to mention the slender flight attendants ( i.e. NOT fat Delta or other American carrier girls).
  3. IMOP, the Areca is pricing itself right out of the market. A very nice hotel to be sure, but there are so many more reasonable, just-as-nice (or better) alternatives. The Areca is probably marketing to the first-time tourist (who might not know any better). I booked through Sawadee and got a rate of 1250. Then I emailed Areca directly and they came back with 1350. I emailed them back and told them Sawadee offered a better rate thinking they might actually care, but the return email from Areca simply said, ..."go book Sawadee". lol.
  4. Ah, "The Fuck Inn" sign. That brought back some good memories. Thanks for that! Oh, and very nice review, too.
  5. Depends... If this is your first trip and you're not sure or don't care about costs, this is a great place to stay! Right i the middle of a great soi, close to everything, and pretty much "upclass" by comparison. Allin all good value for the convenience. If you're only using the room to shag than there are many other hotels (right next door) that are a better value for the money. Want a pool? Areca. Want Breakfast? Areca. Want a nice, clean room without either for 1/2 the price and right next door? Metro Apartments. Just comes down to how much you use the room. All I use the roo
  6. Thank you. I trust you have enjoyed my absence? I'll be watching.....
  7. Do they have a website or an email address? Thanks.
  8. I am about 5 hours from being banned for life....
  9. WHY? Better (maybe) to hire a driver and farm-out all the hassles this is Bangkok traffic. Sit back with your Tilac and get hammered.
  10. I did not question his integrity (But I am yours') after this constant badgering. Let it go, MM. Let it go
  11. Areca is a great hotel and I recommend it anytime. Metro is a better value for the money, I think. I occasionally like to "move" to another part of town just to get a fresh perspective and visit sois I might otherwise not get to.
  12. MM, you have a cruel spot in your heart as I've noticed you've SNIPED me on several occasions because you , "couldn't resist." Bad Budha for you! I'll be sure to make an advance payment to the FLB before and IF I decide to offer any drinks (although I still may not show up...).
  13. Haven't been to many of those choices, but this may help some people: 2007 map of many restaurants in Pattaya
  14. Have a chance to stay at Opeydeplace on SOI Lengkee, 3rd road. The cost during high season for 2 people is 900 B per night. Anyone stay here before or know something about the place? Thanks in advance.. Opeydeplace
  15. Perfect reasonable when put into context of being in Pattaya. I can't ever imagine saying this in Farangland!
  16. And already booked up for most of high season. Words getting out...
  17. I'm returning for 3 weeks in high season and for about 1/2 the price of the Areca (right around the block), you really can't beat it. Another low-cost option to consider is the Rock House.
  18. I like this topic very much and have found the information very useful as I have of late played with the idea of cashing it all in when I'm 55 and moving to Thailand. I suspect before I actually do it though, I will rent a condo in Thailand for 1 year and play it all out. sometimes the grass only appears greener on the other side of the fence. I have seen people "retire' to Pattaya and age 10 years in as little as 2. More things to consider than JUST money?
  19. If you can do without a pool and room service, then metro apartments is the best bargain I've come across to date. 550 per night in low season gets you daily maid service, fridge, large TV, in-room safe, balcony and all rooms are above a full-service (quite) bar with free pool and internet. You can order food 24/7 from menus in the room and the best part is the location: right on Soi LK Metro (right next to Soi Diana and Areca Lodge). Lolitas is within walking distance. Other restaurants and bars (and a go-go) are on the soi. Hard to imagine beating this deal ....Review of Metro A
  20. This is the best review I"ve ever read. I stayed there recently and found everything the OP said to be very true.
  21. thanks but not thanks. sounds like too much work for me.
  22. In order to avoid the flesh-eating carnivores, I'm PMd you a few suggestions in your price range. Enjoy your trip! updated: I see you can not accept PMs yet. so here you go: I know of 2 . The metro apartments Metro apartments and The Skytop Skytop Hotel Metro is on Soi Diana (right next to the Areca Lodge). Between Walking Street and Soi 2. Great spot with everything you can want. Gogo, Lolitas, 7-11, pharmacy, internet, bike rental, etc... Right next to Mikes Shopping mall. In my opionion, the BEST central location ever!! Skytop is another great locati
  23. Hard to believe that in less than a few days time I could be inside some of those lovely ladies!
