those look like Salaks, very delicious but a pain (literally) to eat due to the little thorns. Guess I haven't learned the correct way to open them.

Mandatory registration of SIM cards in Thailand
csm replied to DrPat's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I think plans change all the time, my friend has AIS and as long as he keeps is balance above 300 baht the sim does not expire. I tried to get the same and was told it was no longer available. What I got was a plan where every top up gives one additional month, what is different from the above is I only need to top up with 10 baht to get the extra month. You can only extend up to 1 year max. I use all those 1 and 2 baht coins I get as change and do multiple top ups on those orange machines outside 7-11s. There is a 2 baht fee for each top up, so for 12 baht I get a month added. I mak -
registered sim cards and banned internet sites
csm replied to 9cisco999's topic in Technical problems or questions.
Similar thing happened to me on my smart phone in the U.S (U.S sim card). Texts stopped coming in, incoming calls did not work. I could call out and text out. Fixed it by taking the battery out while it was on and reinserting. -
That's great news Martin, I get my unit today and look forward to some football on Sunday.

I think this refers to when Thai men drop the R from Krap and say Kap but in Thai the final consonant sound is only partially spoken so it can sound like it isn't spoken at all if you don't listen closely. Mod who has a lot of online videos explains it like this - you swallow the final sound so it stays in your throat.

Wow those are some of those fancy new monitors
-
Thanks I appreciate the offer. Hoping this is a successful trip so I can have a few more extended stays like this before I retire and move to LOS permanently.
-
Short that is always an option, unfortunately I have never been able to use a TV as a computer monitor as it irritates the heck out of my eyes no matter how I adjust all the settings.

Thank you Sunny, I will contact you prior to my departure. My laptop can take vga or hdmi. Not sure if you remember me from your days with Lennies.

I will be spending the month of September in Pattaya whilst telecommuting to my office back home. My boss is allowing me to make this working trip (I work from home due to eye issues with the office lights). I will be bringing my laptop but need a second monitor to do my work. So I was wondering if anyone onsite has any suggestions of how I could get a hold of a monitor for 4 weeks. If I have to I will buy a monitor (new or used) and then figure out what to do with it when I head back home. If all goes well with this trip it may allow me to make future working trips. Scott

Thanks for all the advice in this topic. I have AIS and with each top up get an additional month validity, I was trying to top up 10 baht inside the 7-11 but was told minimum was 50 baht, so I am glad I found this thread. Each top up has a 2 baht service charge (at least at the 7-11 on beach road in front of View Talay 6) so cost 12 baht for 10 baht credit. I topped up over several days to get up to one year validity. I did notice (too late) that I can only extend up to 1 year, I added another 10 baht after getting to the one year mark, but it did not extend any more time. Any way tha

23 days in May - 1500b/night - tactics?
csm replied to aldriglikvid's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
You can arrange for daily or less frequent maid service. Honey also has a laundry service in the building and they usually list the prices for room cleaning. I would just ask for the rates when you send an inquiry about a room. -
23 days in May - 1500b/night - tactics?
csm replied to aldriglikvid's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I have stayed at the View Talay 6 condos next to Central Festival mall for most of my trips the last several years, the longest stay was 17 days so the time frame is not an issue. There are a few studios available for 1500baht per day, and more available for a few hundred baht more. In fact I will be staying in one this April. I would check out http://Dancewatchers.com and http://www.honeyscoffeehouse.com/ to see what is available during your time frame. I have rented condos from both and have been completely satisfied and prefer staying at a condo over a hotel any day. -

Maybe I won't need a second line so please add your suggestions. I just can't have a lot of ongoing outages while working or my boss may recall me. He and I already talked about possible internet / electrical outages so the occaisonal drop will be ok.

Thanks for the tip BigD I will take a look at the offerings when I am in town in November to see what type of listings it has.

If I can work out some details I may have the opportunity to move to Thailand and telecommute for my job back home. The earliest this would occur is next summer so I am very busy trying to figure out all the details which brings me to the purpose of this post. I am looking for recommendations for long term housing. I will put my requiements below. I have been looking at several forums and am already considering Maxx Central, have sent them two emails but no response back yet. I will be coming to Pattaya in November so will do some on the ground research while there. BTW I am 56 so may

Great pics, thanks for posting them.

The cheapest I have seen is China Southern, but I have not seen any good reviews on them. I am looking at an August trip and the best price is from China Airlines. I have flown them before and they are ok. I usually fly at night and sleep most of the flight. I would recommend looking at a sight like kayak.com and plugging in your dates, then find the airlines that fly at the time of day you want and go to their website to compare prices.

I just booked a trip in Nov for $678 out of Los Angeles. I found this deal by clicking on the link for Hot E-Fares, I hadn't seen this before but my trip was over $160 cheaper than there North American deals. For this you have to depart before Nov 30. I had to play around with the dates a bit to get this price with the departure times I wanted but it worked for me.
-
They had a similar promotion earlier in the year, I paid $651 all in. I was able to do the online checkin 24 hours before the flight and choose my seats at that time, otherwise I would have been first in line a few hours before the flight. The only problem for me flyingat that time, was that I finally got into Pattaya sometime between 4 and 5 am. I had the worst case ever of jet lag both in LOS and back home after my return, so much that I will never fly those hours again. 3 of the first 4 nights in LOS I never made it out of the hotel.

I'll be there in a few weeks Paul, get my card ready

China Airlines-LAX to Taiwan & S. E. Asia FEB-MAY09 Sale
csm replied to bigdelta's topic in Airline Discussion
I just booked my next trip this afternoon. Leave LA on April 28 and return on May 13. Total price was just $651, no that is not a typo. The best rates from LA seem to be the last two weeks of April with mid week departures. If you check the box for flexible dates then you can see the different rates. If I were to leave on May 1st it would have been almost $200 more, but still cheaper than any other rates I have seen.
