  1. Thats the best advice possible. I accidentally stumbled across Pattaya and was totally overwhelmed by the place on my first night as hadn't done any research. Thankfully a friendly guy in a bar who spotted my wide eyes and open mouth brought me up to speed wih the basics that got me through that trip - although I made a few newbie mistake. Before the second trip I read as much as I could and enjoyed myself much more.
  2. Isn't that just the conga...not particularly demeaning
  3. After a heavy session on the beer the night before and knowing that I will be having Thai food later that day I prefer to make sure I get some "solid" farang food in my system in the morning/early afternoon. Pattaya Beer Garden tends to be my establishment of choice but I do go there too often and need to mix it up a bit while preferably still in the WS area as can't be bothered to walk too far until after my first feed of the day and never been a big fan of the baht buses.
  4. Depends what part of you hits the ground first as well. If you are going head first off the 2nd floor it could be enough to kill you but if you are jumping then you could land safely or at worst damaage to the legs. I always look for a room without a balcony
  5. I've found that it's usually pretty pricey in the UK (although I am sure there are exceptions). Seems to be more expensive than Indian and Chinese restaurants, perhaps because there are less of them about. I end up looking at the menu and thinking how much cheaper it would be in Thailand but still like a bit of Thai food in the UK every now and then.
  6. Do you mean on Soi 16 rather than 14? If so I had seen that he was looking to sell it. It's where I have tended to watch football over the last few years on my trips as they would show multiple games at the same time with English commentary and no music except at half time. Interested in any suggestions for a new bar to watch the footy in around the Walking Street area if anyone who reads this has any.
  7. Definitely a few groups of young American military types about in the last 2 or 3 days. They all seemed to be enjoying the attention :)
  8. I assume you realised that he was taking the piss? I've been in Pattaya before for Cobra Gold, Valentines day and Chinese New year. Cobra gold - saw a few groups of guys earlier in the night, a few establishments putting up signs etc trying to encourage them in and thats about it. Valentines day - No different Chinese New Year - Busier on walking street than the days before and after, think they had some stalls and cooking going on in the middle of the street and a dragon going up and down the street and in and out of some bars. Noticed no real impact on my mongering :)
  9. For some it may be worth looking at this site Pixelr Many of the basics and some of the not so basic options from software packages are available online so you don't even need to be on your computer to make the edits.
  10. McAfee can be integrated with the Firefox browser so that links shown by searching on Google are given a green tick if they are deemed fine and a red cross if they aren't. Isn't foolproof but again it is some added protection.
  11. Not sure where the phrase "The Ibiza crowd" originates but I have seen it a number of times on here and wonder if the people who use it have been and if they did whether they went anywhere other than the West End. If its young, groups of lads getting pissed up, acting like idiots then the Magaluf, Benidorm or Ayia Napa crowd would be more accurate. A large percentage of people going to Ibiza are there for the top name DJ's, Superclubs and pills. As its generally considerably more expensive than the other places, some clubs are £30-50 a ticket with drinks between 6 and 12 quid, that ac
  12. Seen this thread on a couple of boards and yet no-one has been able to provide any further details on the Thai/Polish bar near walking street. Beginning to wonder about its existence. I like the idea of an easily organisable multi-racial threesome at the right price so would definitely pop in for a beverage when I next visit to scope it out.....if I had any idea of where it is.
  13. Thanks for your help guys. Good to have a few recommendations based on my specifications rather than reading loads of random reviews. At first glance a couple of them look like definite contenders. Pentire - Must admit that I've always been a little suspicious of those coded safes, but I've never had a problem with them before. Cheers Luco
  14. Hi Guys Trying to narrow down the mass of hotels in Pattaya to a few contenders for a Jan/Feb 2006 trip. Surfed a number of websites and read a lot of reviews and now suffering from information overload, so thought I'd see if anyone here can give me some personal recommendations. Looking for Hotel or Guesthouse:- 1) No more than 5 - 10 mins walk from Walking St 2) Reasonably clean and safe 3) In room safe 4) Guest Friendly 5) Decent size bed 6) Air Con 7) Willing to pay upto 850 baht per night (but ideally looking for suitable room for less than this) Pool not impor
