You are right in 2 yrs things could change,indeed have changed fairly recently. Some Thai banks are now offering as much as 5% interest. My advice would be a check on these interest rates and the exchange rates.there may be a time when the Baht may get back to $1 = 40 plus Baht.Then it may be prudent to transfer all your capital to Thailand. Its really all a gamble,but keeping an eye on things might turn out pretty good.

If it does go up 1.5mill,it would indeed be a blow to many. Whoever its only the first yr it effects you,after that you just top up what you spend during the yr. I guess its worse for those just using pensions etc.to meet the 800,000B requirement.

Hey Brummie , Hmmmmmmmmmm only 7 days,not too long to get to know well. I suggest you try one of the many hotels on Soi 7&8,these are probably the 2 busiest Soi's away from Walking st.Flipper Lodge and Flipper House Eastiny on Soi 8,these are popular places to stay and right in the middle of all the action . I however go for the long stays 2/3 mnths,and tend to stay a little away from these mad areas. Have a cool trip,dont forget to fill is in on how you like Patters in comparison to Phuket. I had root canal in patters,was excellent treatment. Also a friend had bridge work for 6 front top teeth,when he returned home he went to see dentist who commented it was some of the best work he'd seen,and nearly fell off his stool when told how much

Hmmmmmmm 50-55 to the £ is definately possible,and yes you are right up the creek would be about right. I was just wondering if ppl would like to recall the exchange rates from the past and ill transfer them to a graph. I can go back to 1988 i think it was about 38 and around 40 in 1992,its a long time ago so i stand to be corrected on these figures.

Erm the simple answer is no all currencies are linked. However if there is some time between the exchanges you will be open to the normal fluctuations between them.Which could go up or down. Also you will incurr 2 lots of commission or the difference between buying and selling rates.

Hi Stephen, Im just wondering why you would change so much in a UK bank.You were always going to get ripped. If you had waited till you arrived in Pattaya you would have got around 67/68B to the pound.

Definately travellers cheques. My bank Barclays dont charge for them if i get just a little cash from them.If you go this route get the largest denominations possible as there is an exchange charge of around 40B per cheque.This however is more than made up for by the better exchange rate. Also its much safer with cheques than large amounts of cash.

Yes you are right....the pound has been pretty syable against the USD/EURO.its definately a rise in the Baht. Could be a concern,wouldnt like it to go back to its value back on my first visit..1988,when a Pound got u slightly under 40B .That might really scupper my retirement plan for later this year.
